Solomon Builds the Temple

1 In the four hundred and eightieth year after the people of Israel came out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, which is the second month, he began to build the house of the Lord. (2Ch 3:1; Ac 7:47) 2 The house that King Solomon built for the Lord was sixty cubits^[1] long, twenty cubits wide, and thirty cubits high. (2Ch 3:3) 3 The vestibule in front of the nave of the house was twenty cubits long, equal to the width of the house, and ten cubits deep in front of the house. 4 And he made for the house windows with recessed frames.^[2] (Eze 40:16; Eze 41:16; Eze 41:26) 5 He also built a structure^[3] against the wall of the house, running around the walls of the house, both the nave and the inner sanctuary. 6 The lowest story^[4] was five cubits broad, the middle one was six cubits broad, and the third was seven cubits broad. For around the outside of the house he made offsets on the wall in order that the supporting beams should not be inserted into the walls of the house. 7 When the house was built, it was with stone prepared at the quarry, so that neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron was heard in the house while it was being built. (De 27:5; 1Ki 5:18) 8 The entrance for the lowest^[5] story was on the south side of the house, and one went up by stairs to the middle story, and from the middle story to the third. 9 So he built the house and finished it, and he made the ceiling of the house of beams and planks of cedar. (1Ki 6:14; 1Ki 6:38) 10 He built the structure against the whole house, five cubits high, and it was joined to the house with timbers of cedar. 11 Now the word of the Lord came to Solomon, 12 “Concerning this house that you are building, if you will walk in my statutes and obey my rules and keep all my commandments and walk in them, then I will establish my word with you, which I spoke to David your father. 14 So Solomon built the house and finished it. (1Ki 6:9; 1Ki 6:38) 15 He lined the walls of the house on the inside with boards of cedar. From the floor of the house to the walls of the ceiling, he covered them on the inside with wood, and he covered the floor of the house with boards of cypress. (1Ki 7:7) 16 He built twenty cubits of the rear of the house with boards of cedar from the floor to the walls, and he built this within as an inner sanctuary, as the Most Holy Place. 17 The house, that is, the nave in front of the inner sanctuary, was forty cubits long. 18 The cedar within the house was carved in the form of gourds and open flowers. All was cedar; no stone was seen. (1Ki 7:24) 19 The inner sanctuary he prepared in the innermost part of the house, to set there the ark of the covenant of the Lord. 20 The inner sanctuary^[6] was twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and twenty cubits high, and he overlaid it with pure gold. He also overlaid^[7] an altar of cedar. 21 And Solomon overlaid the inside of the house with pure gold, and he drew chains of gold across, in front of the inner sanctuary, and overlaid it with gold. 22 And he overlaid the whole house with gold, until all the house was finished. Also the whole altar that belonged to the inner sanctuary he overlaid with gold. (Ex 30:1; Ex 30:3; Ex 30:6) 23 In the inner sanctuary he made two cherubim of olivewood, each ten cubits high. (Ex 37:7; 2Ch 3:10) 24 Five cubits was the length of one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the length of the other wing of the cherub; it was ten cubits from the tip of one wing to the tip of the other. 25 The other cherub also measured ten cubits; both cherubim had the same measure and the same form. 26 The height of one cherub was ten cubits, and so was that of the other cherub. 27 He put the cherubim in the innermost part of the house. And the wings of the cherubim were spread out so that a wing of one touched the one wall, and a wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; their other wings touched each other in the middle of the house. 28 And he overlaid the cherubim with gold. 29 Around all the walls of the house he carved engraved figures of cherubim and palm trees and open flowers, in the inner and outer rooms. 30 The floor of the house he overlaid with gold in the inner and outer rooms. 31 For the entrance to the inner sanctuary he made doors of olivewood; the lintel and the doorposts were five-sided.^[8] 32 He covered the two doors of olivewood with carvings of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers. He overlaid them with gold and spread gold on the cherubim and on the palm trees. 33 So also he made for the entrance to the nave doorposts of olivewood, in the form of a square, 34 and two doors of cypress wood. The two leaves of the one door were folding, and the two leaves of the other door were folding. (Eze 41:24) 35 On them he carved cherubim and palm trees and open flowers, and he overlaid them with gold evenly applied on the carved work. 36 He built the inner court with three courses of cut stone and one course of cedar beams. (1Ki 7:12) 37 In the fourth year the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid, in the month of Ziv. (1Ki 6:1) 38 And in the eleventh year, in the month of Bul, which is the eighth month, the house was finished in all its parts, and according to all its specifications. He was seven years in building it.

Construcción de la Casa

1 En el año cuatrocientos ochenta después de la salida de los hijos de Israel de la tierra de Egipto, en el cuarto año del reinado de Salomón sobre Israel, en el mes de Ziv, que es el mes segundo, aconteció que él comenzó a edificar la Casa de YHVH. 2 La Casa que el rey Salomón edificó para YHVH tenía sesenta codos de largo, veinte codos de ancho y treinta codos de alto. 3 El pórtico delante del lugar santo de la Casa tenía veinte codos de largo a todo lo ancho de la Casa, y diez codos de ancho en el frente de la Casa. 4 Hizo a la Casa ventanas: anchas por dentro y estrechas por fuera. 5 Y contra el muro de la Casa construyó galerías alrededor del muro de la Casa, tanto del lugar santo como del lugar santísimo, y les hizo cámaras laterales en derredor. 6 La galería inferior tenía cinco codos de ancho, la intermedia seis codos de ancho, y la tercera siete codos de ancho, porque había hecho reducciones en el lado exterior, alrededor de la Casa, para no empotrar las vigas de las galerías en los muros de la Casa. 7 En su construcción, la Casa fue edificada 8 La entrada a la galería intermedia estaba al lado derecho de la Casa, y se subía a la galería intermedia, y de ésta a la superior, mediante una escalera de caracol. 9 Construyó, pues, la Casa y la terminó; y cubrió la Casa con vigas y tablas de cedro. 10 Construyó también las galerías alrededor de toda la Casa, cada una de cinco codos de altura, las cuales se trababan a la Casa mediante vigas de cedro. 11 Y la palabra de YHVH fue dirigida a Salomón, diciendo: 12 En cuanto a la Casa que tú estás edificando, si andas en mis estatutos, y pones por obra mis juicios, y guardas todos mis mandamientos para andar en ellos, Yo cumpliré contigo mi palabra que hablé a tu padre David: 13 Tabernaculizaré en medio de los hijos de Israel, y no abandonaré a mi pueblo Israel. 14 Y Salomón edificó la Casa y la terminó. 15 Y revistió el lado interior de los muros de la Casa con tablas de cedro; los recubrió de madera por dentro, desde el suelo de la Casa hasta las paredes del artesonado, y cubrió el piso de la Casa con tablas de ciprés. 16 Construyó los veinte codos en la parte trasera de la Casa con tablas de cedro, desde el piso hasta el techo; así le edificó el Santuario interior: el lugar santísimo. 17 La Casa, es decir, la nave de adelante, tenía cuarenta codos. 18 Por dentro, la Casa estaba revestida de cedro tallado en forma de calabazas y de flores abiertas; todo era cedro, ninguna piedra se veía. 19 Entonces preparó por dentro el Santuario interior, al fondo de la Casa, para colocar allí el Arca del Pacto de YHVH. 20 El Santuario interior tenía veinte codos de largo, veinte codos de ancho y veinte codos de alto; y lo recubrió de oro puro; y el altar lo recubrió de cedro. 21 Después Salomón recubrió de oro puro el interior de la Casa, e hizo pasar cadenas de oro en la parte delantera del Santuario interior, y lo recubrió de oro. 22 Revistió de oro toda la Casa, hasta que toda la Casa estuvo terminada; asimismo recubrió de oro todo el altar que estaba delante del Santuario interior. 23 Hizo también en el Santuario interior dos querubines de madera de olivo, cada uno de diez codos de alto. 24 Un ala del querubín tenía cinco codos y la otra ala del querubín cinco codos; desde el extremo de un ala hasta el extremo de la otra había diez codos. 25 De la misma manera, el segundo querubín tenía diez codos; ambos querubines tenían la misma medida y la misma forma. 26 El primer querubín tenía diez codos de alto, e igualmente el segundo querubín. 27 Y colocó los querubines en medio del Santuario interior. Las alas de los querubines se extendían, de modo que el ala de uno tocaba una pared y el ala del otro querubín tocaba la otra pared, y las otras dos alas que daban al centro del recinto se tocaban ala con ala. 28 Luego recubrió de oro los querubines; 29 y en todas las paredes alrededor de la Casa, en el interior y en el exterior, talló bajorrelieves de querubines, de palmeras y de flores abiertas. 30 Y recubrió de oro el piso del Santuario, tanto el interior como el exterior. 31 Para la entrada del lugar santísimo hizo puertas de madera de olivo; los postes de la puerta eran pentagonales, 32 y las dos puertas eran de madera de olivo, en las cuales talló bajorrelieves de querubines, de palmeras y de flores abiertas, que recubrió de oro, e hizo laminar el oro sobre los querubines y las palmeras. 33 También hizo así con la entrada del lugar santo, donde colocó postes cuadrangulares de madera de olivo, 34 y dos puertas de madera de ciprés; las dos hojas de una puerta eran giratorias, y las dos hojas de la otra puerta eran también giratorias. 35 Talló asimismo en ellas querubines, palmeras y flores abiertas, y las recubrió de oro ajustado a los grabados. 36 Construyó el atrio interior con tres hileras de piedras talladas y una hilera de vigas de cedro. 37 En el año cuarto, en el mes de Ziv, se echaron los cimientos de la Casa de YHVH; 38 y en el año undécimo, en el mes de Bul, que es el mes octavo, la Casa fue terminada con todos sus detalles y de conformidad con el diseño prefijado; de manera que la terminó de edificar en siete años.
