Siege im Norden Kanaans und Eroberung des übrigen Landes
1Und es geschah, als Jabin, der König von Hazor, es hörte, sandte er zu Jobab, dem König von Madon, und zum König von Schimron und zum König von Achschaf (Jos 12,19; Jos 12,20; Jos 19,36; Ri 4,2; 1Kön 9,15; 2Kön 15,29)2und zu den Königen, die im Norden im Gebirge und in der Steppe[1] südlich von Kinneret[2] und in der Niederung[3] und im Hügelland von Dor im Westen waren, (4Mo 34,11; Jos 12,23; 1Kön 15,20)3zu den Kanaanitern im Osten und im Westen, zu den Amoritern, den Hetitern, den Perisitern und den Jebusitern auf dem Gebirge und zu den Hewitern am Fuß des Hermon im Land Mizpa. (Jos 3,10)4Und sie zogen aus, sie und ihr ganzes Heerlager mit ihnen, ein Volk, ⟨so⟩ zahlreich wie der Sand, der am Ufer des Meeres ist, an Menge, sowie sehr viele Pferde und Wagen. (Ri 7,12; 1Sam 13,5; 2Sam 17,11; Ps 20,8)5All diese Könige trafen zusammen. Sie kamen und lagerten miteinander am Wasser Merom, um gegen Israel zu kämpfen. (Jos 9,2; 2Sam 10,15; Ps 48,5)6Da sprach der HERR zu Josua: Fürchte dich nicht vor ihnen! Denn morgen um diese Zeit werde ich sie alle vor Israel zu Erschlagenen machen. Ihre Pferde sollst du lähmen[4] und ihre Wagen mit Feuer verbrennen. (Jos 10,8; 2Sam 8,4; 2Kön 6,16; Ps 46,10)7Und Josua und alles Kriegsvolk mit ihm kam plötzlich über sie am Wasser Merom, und sie überfielen sie. (Jos 10,9)8Und der HERR gab sie in die Hand Israels, und sie schlugen sie und jagten ihnen nach bis Sidon, der großen ⟨Stadt⟩, und bis Misrefot-Majim und bis in die Talebene von Mizpe im Osten. Und sie schlugen sie, sodass ihnen kein Entronnener übrig blieb. (5Mo 7,2; 5Mo 9,3; Jos 10,20; Jos 13,6; Jos 21,44; 2Sam 24,6)9Josua machte es mit ihnen, wie der HERR ihm gesagt hatte: Ihre Pferde lähmte er, und ihre Wagen verbrannte er mit Feuer. (2Sam 8,4; Ps 46,10)10In jener Zeit kehrte Josua um und nahm Hazor ein, und seinen König erschlug er mit dem Schwert. Denn Hazor war damals[5] die Hauptstadt all dieser Königreiche.11Und sie schlugen alles Leben, das[6] darin war, mit der Schärfe des Schwertes, indem sie den Bann ⟨an ihnen⟩ vollstreckten: Nichts Lebendes[7] blieb übrig. Hazor aber verbrannte er mit Feuer. (Jos 6,21)12Alle Städte dieser Könige mit all ihren Königen nahm Josua ein und schlug sie mit der Schärfe des Schwertes. Er vollstreckte den Bann an ihnen, wie Mose, der Knecht des HERRN, befohlen hatte. (5Mo 7,2; 5Mo 9,3; Jos 10,20; Jos 13,6; Jos 21,44)13Nur all die Städte, die auf Hügeln[8] standen, verbrannte Israel nicht, ausgenommen Hazor allein, ⟨das⟩ verbrannte Josua. (Jos 24,13)14Die ganze Beute dieser Städte sowie das Vieh plünderten die Söhne Israel für sich. Doch alle Menschen schlugen sie mit der Schärfe des Schwertes, bis sie sie vernichtet hatten: Sie ließen nichts Lebendes[9] übrig. (Jos 8,2; 2Chr 20,25)15Wie der HERR seinem Knecht Mose befohlen hatte, so befahl Mose Josua, und so machte es Josua. Er unterließ nichts von allem, das der HERR dem Mose befohlen hatte. (4Mo 33,50; 5Mo 31,3; Jos 1,7)16So nahm Josua dieses ganze Land, das Gebirge, den ganzen Süden, das ganze Land Goschen, die Niederung und die Steppe[10], das Gebirge Israel und seine Niederung[11],17von dem kahlen Gebirge, das gegen Seïr ansteigt, bis Baal-Gad in der Talebene des Libanon, am Fuße des Berges Hermon. Und alle ihre Könige nahm er gefangen, erschlug sie und tötete sie. (5Mo 1,7; 5Mo 7,24; Jos 12,7; Jos 13,5)18Lange Zeit führte Josua mit all diesen Königen Krieg.19Es gab keine Stadt, die sich den Söhnen Israel friedlich ergab, außer den Hewitern, die in Gibeon wohnten[12], alles ⟨andere⟩ nahmen sie im Kampf ein. (Jos 9,15)20Denn vom HERRN kam es, dass sie ihr Herz verstockten, ⟨sodass es⟩ zum Krieg mit Israel ⟨kam⟩, damit an ihnen der Bann vollstreckt wurde, ohne dass ihnen Gnade widerfuhr, sondern dass sie vernichtet wurden, wie der HERR dem Mose befohlen hatte. (2Mo 14,4; 5Mo 2,30; Ri 14,4; 1Sam 2,25; 2Sam 17,14; 2Chr 22,7; Jes 14,24; Jes 34,2)21Zu jener Zeit kam Josua und rottete die Enakiter aus von dem Gebirge, von Hebron, von Debir, von Anab und von dem ganzen Gebirge Juda und von dem ganzen Gebirge Israel: Mitsamt ihren Städten vollstreckte Josua an ihnen den Bann. (4Mo 13,22; 5Mo 9,2; Jos 14,12; Jos 15,13; Ri 1,20)22Es blieben keine Enakiter im Land der Söhne Israel übrig. Nur in Gaza, in Gat und in Aschdod blieben sie übrig. (Jos 10,41; Jos 15,47; 1Sam 5,1; 1Sam 17,4; 2Sam 21,16)23Und so nahm Josua das ganze Land ⟨ein⟩, ganz wie der HERR zu Mose geredet hatte. Und Josua gab es Israel zum Erbteil, nach ihren Abteilungen, entsprechend ihren Stämmen. Und das Land hatte Ruhe vom Krieg. (4Mo 21,21; 4Mo 26,53; 4Mo 34,2; 5Mo 2,32; 5Mo 3,1; 5Mo 4,46; 5Mo 12,10; Jos 12,7; Jos 14,1; Jos 14,15; Jos 21,44)
1When Jabin king of Hazor heard of this, he sent word to Jobab king of Madon, to the kings of Shimron and Akshaph,2and to the northern kings who were in the mountains, in the Arabah south of Kinnereth, in the western foothills and in Naphoth Dor on the west;3to the Canaanites in the east and west; to the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites and Jebusites in the hill country; and to the Hivites below Hermon in the region of Mizpah.4They came out with all their troops and a large number of horses and chariots – a huge army, as numerous as the sand on the seashore.5All these kings joined forces and made camp together at the Waters of Merom to fight against Israel.6The Lord said to Joshua, ‘Do not be afraid of them, because by this time tomorrow I will hand all of them, slain, over to Israel. You are to hamstring their horses and burn their chariots.’7So Joshua and his whole army came against them suddenly at the Waters of Merom and attacked them,8and the Lord gave them into the hand of Israel. They defeated them and pursued them all the way to Greater Sidon, to Misrephoth Maim, and to the Valley of Mizpah on the east, until no survivors were left.9Joshua did to them as the Lord had directed: he hamstrung their horses and burned their chariots.10At that time Joshua turned back and captured Hazor and put its king to the sword. (Hazor had been the head of all these kingdoms.)11Everyone in it they put to the sword. They totally destroyed[1] them, not sparing anyone that breathed, and he burned Hazor itself.12Joshua took all these royal cities and their kings and put them to the sword. He totally destroyed them, as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded.13Yet Israel did not burn any of the cities built on their mounds – except Hazor, which Joshua burned.14The Israelites carried off for themselves all the plunder and livestock of these cities, but all the people they put to the sword until they completely destroyed them, not sparing anyone that breathed.15As the Lord commanded his servant Moses, so Moses commanded Joshua, and Joshua did it; he left nothing undone of all that the Lord commanded Moses.16So Joshua took this entire land: the hill country, all the Negev, the whole region of Goshen, the western foothills, the Arabah and the mountains of Israel with their foothills,17from Mount Halak, which rises towards Seir, to Baal Gad in the Valley of Lebanon below Mount Hermon. He captured all their kings and put them to death.18Joshua waged war against all these kings for a long time.19Except for the Hivites living in Gibeon, not one city made a treaty of peace with the Israelites, who took them all in battle.20For it was the Lord himself who hardened their hearts to wage war against Israel, so that he might destroy them totally, exterminating them without mercy, as the Lord had commanded Moses.21At that time Joshua went and destroyed the Anakites from the hill country: from Hebron, Debir and Anab, from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel. Joshua totally destroyed them and their towns.22No Anakites were left in Israelite territory; only in Gaza, Gath and Ashdod did any survive.23So Joshua took the entire land, just as the Lord had directed Moses, and he gave it as an inheritance to Israel according to their tribal divisions. Then the land had rest from war.
