Weissagung gegen Jerobeam durch den Mann Gottes aus Juda – Ungehorsam und Tod des Propheten

1 Und siehe, ein Mann Gottes kam aus Juda auf das Wort des HERRN hin nach Bethel, als Jerobeam auf dem Altar stand, um Rauchopfer darzubringen. (1Sam 2,27; 1Kön 12,32; Am 7,13) 2 Und er rief gegen den Altar auf das Wort des HERRN hin und sagte: Altar, Altar, so spricht der HERR: Siehe, ein Sohn wird dem Haus David geboren werden, sein Name ist Josia. Der wird auf dir die Höhenpriester schlachten, die auf dir räuchern; und Menschengebeine wird man auf dir verbrennen! (2Kön 23,15; 2Chr 34,4) 3 Und er gab an jenem Tag ein Wunderzeichen^[1] und sagte: Dies ist das Wunderzeichen^[2] dafür, dass der HERR geredet hat: Siehe, der Altar wird zerbersten, und die Fettasche, die darauf ist, wird verschüttet werden. (Jes 7,11; Mt 12,38; Joh 2,11) 4 Und es geschah, als der König das Wort des Mannes Gottes hörte, das er gegen den Altar in Bethel ausgerufen hatte, da streckte Jerobeam vom Altar herab seine Hand aus und sagte: Packt ihn! Da verdorrte seine Hand, die er gegen ihn ausgestreckt hatte, und er konnte sie nicht wieder an sich ziehen. (1Kön 12,29; 1Kön 22,27; 2Chr 16,10; Ps 105,15; Jer 20,2)

5 Und der Altar zerbarst, und die Fettasche wurde vom Altar verschüttet nach dem Wunderzeichen^[3], das der Mann Gottes auf das Wort des HERRN hin gegeben hatte. (Am 3,14) 6 Da hob der König an und sagte zu dem Mann Gottes: Besänftige doch das Angesicht des HERRN, deines Gottes, und bete für mich, dass ich meine Hand wieder an mich ziehen kann^[4]! Und der Mann Gottes besänftigte das Angesicht des HERRN, und die Hand des Königs wurde ihm wiedergegeben und wurde wie vorher. (2Mo 8,4; 4Mo 12,13; Lk 6,10; Jak 5,16)

7 Und der König redete zu dem Mann Gottes: Komm mit mir ins Haus und stärke dich, und ich will dir ein Geschenk geben! (1Sam 9,7; 2Kön 5,15) 8 Der Mann Gottes aber sagte zum König: ⟨Selbst⟩ wenn du mir die Hälfte deines Hauses gäbest, so würde ich nicht mit dir hineingehen. Ich werde an diesem Ort kein Brot essen und kein Wasser trinken. (4Mo 22,18; Ps 141,4) 9 Denn so ist es mir durch das Wort des HERRN befohlen worden: Du sollst kein Brot essen und kein Wasser trinken, und du sollst nicht auf dem Weg zurückkehren, den du hingegangen bist! 10 So ging er auf einem anderen Weg ⟨fort⟩ und kehrte nicht auf dem Weg zurück, auf dem er nach Bethel gekommen war. 11 Ein alter Prophet wohnte in Bethel; und seine Söhne kamen und erzählten ihm alles^[5], was der Mann Gottes an dem Tag in Bethel getan hatte; die Worte, die er zum König geredet hatte, die erzählten sie ihrem Vater. 12 Da sagte ihr Vater zu ihnen: Welchen Weg ist er gegangen? Und seine Söhne zeigten ihm den Weg^[6], den der Mann Gottes gegangen war, der aus Juda gekommen war. 13 Da sagte er zu seinen Söhnen: Sattelt mir den Esel! Und sie sattelten ihm den Esel, und er bestieg ihn. 14 Und er folgte dem Mann Gottes und fand ihn unter der Terebinthe sitzen. Und er sagte zu ihm: Bist du der Mann Gottes, der aus Juda gekommen ist? Und er sagte: Ich bin es. 15 Da sagte er zu ihm: Komm mit mir in ⟨mein⟩ Haus und iss Brot! 16 Er aber sagte: Ich kann nicht^[7] mit dir umkehren, um mit dir hineinzugehen, und an diesem Ort werde ich kein Brot essen und kein Wasser mit dir trinken. 17 Denn durch das Wort des HERRN ist ein Befehl^[8] an mich ⟨ergangen⟩: Du sollst dort kein Brot essen und kein Wasser trinken! Du sollst nicht wieder auf dem Weg ⟨zurück⟩gehen, auf dem du hingegangen bist! 18 Da sagte er zu ihm: Auch ich bin ein Prophet wie du, und ein Engel hat zu mir geredet durch das Wort des HERRN und gesagt: Bring ihn mit dir in dein Haus zurück, dass er Brot isst und Wasser trinkt! 19 Da kehrte er mit ihm zurück und aß in seinem Haus Brot und trank Wasser. (1Mo 3,6) 20 Und es geschah, während sie ⟨noch⟩ zu Tisch saßen, da geschah das Wort des HERRN zu dem Propheten, der ihn zurückgebracht hatte. 21 Und er rief dem Mann Gottes, der aus Juda gekommen war, zu: So spricht der HERR: Dafür, dass du gegen den Befehl des HERRN widerspenstig gewesen bist und das Gebot, das der HERR, dein Gott, dir geboten hat, nicht beachtet hast 22 und umgekehrt bist und Brot gegessen und Wasser getrunken hast an dem Ort, von dem er zu dir geredet hat: Iss kein Brot und trinke kein Wasser! – ⟨darum⟩ soll deine Leiche nicht in das Grab deiner Väter kommen! 23 Und es geschah, nachdem er Brot gegessen und nachdem er getrunken hatte, da sattelte man für ihn den Esel des Propheten, der ihn zurückgebracht hatte. 24 Und er zog fort. Da fand ihn ein Löwe auf dem Weg und tötete ihn. Und seine Leiche blieb hingestreckt auf dem Weg liegen, und der Esel stand daneben, und der Löwe stand neben der Leiche. (1Kön 20,36) 25 Und siehe, da kamen Männer vorbei und sahen die Leiche auf dem Weg hingestreckt liegen und den Löwen neben der Leiche stehen. Und sie kamen und sagten es in der Stadt, in der der alte Prophet wohnte. 26 Als nun der Prophet, der ihn von dem Weg zurückgeführt hatte, ⟨das⟩ hörte, sagte er: Das ist der Mann Gottes, der gegen den Befehl des HERRN widerspenstig gewesen ist; ⟨darum⟩ hat der HERR ihn dem Löwen preisgegeben: Der hat ihn zerrissen und getötet nach dem Wort des HERRN, das er zu ihm geredet hat. 27 Und er redete zu seinen Söhnen und sagte: Sattelt mir den Esel! Und sie sattelten ⟨ihn⟩. 28 Und er ging hin und fand seine Leiche auf dem Weg hingestreckt liegen und den Esel und den Löwen neben der Leiche stehen; der Löwe hatte die Leiche nicht gefressen und den Esel nicht zerrissen. 29 Da hob der Prophet die Leiche des Mannes Gottes auf und legte ihn auf den Esel und brachte ihn zurück. Und er kam in die Stadt des alten Propheten, um ihm die Totenklage zu halten und ihn zu begraben. 30 Und er legte seine Leiche in sein eigenes Grab; und man hielt die Totenklage über ihn: Ach, mein Bruder! (Jer 22,18) 31 Und es geschah, nachdem er ihn begraben hatte, sagte er zu seinen Söhnen: Wenn ich gestorben bin, dann begrabt mich in dem Grab, in dem der Mann Gottes begraben ist! Neben seine Gebeine legt meine Gebeine! (2Kön 23,17) 32 Denn das Wort wird ganz gewiss geschehen, das er auf das Wort des HERRN hin ausgerufen hat gegen den Altar, der in Bethel ist, und gegen alle Höhenheiligtümer^[9], die in den Städten Samarias sind. 33 Nach dieser Begebenheit kehrte Jerobeam von seinem bösen Weg nicht um, sondern machte weiter ⟨Leute⟩ aus dem gesamten Volk zu Höhenpriestern; wer Lust hatte, den weihte er^[10], dass er ein Priester der Höhen wurde. 34 Und diese Sache wurde zur Sünde des Hauses Jerobeam und zum ⟨Anlass, es⟩ auszutilgen und zu vernichten von der Oberfläche der Erde hinweg. (1Kön 12,30; 1Kön 14,7; 1Kön 15,25; Spr 13,6)

The man of God from Judah

1 By the word of the Lord a man of God came from Judah to Bethel, as Jeroboam was standing by the altar to make an offering. 2 By the word of the Lord he cried out against the altar: ‘Altar, altar! This is what the Lord says: “A son named Josiah will be born to the house of David. On you he will sacrifice the priests of the high places who make offerings here, and human bones will be burned on you.” ’ 3 That same day the man of God gave a sign: ‘This is the sign the Lord has declared: the altar will be split apart and the ashes on it will be poured out.’ 4 When King Jeroboam heard what the man of God cried out against the altar at Bethel, he stretched out his hand from the altar and said, ‘Seize him!’ But the hand he stretched out towards the man shrivelled up, so that he could not pull it back. 5 Also, the altar was split apart and its ashes poured out according to the sign given by the man of God by the word of the Lord. 6 Then the king said to the man of God, ‘Intercede with the Lord your God and pray for me that my hand may be restored.’ So the man of God interceded with the Lord, and the king’s hand was restored and became as it was before. 7 The king said to the man of God, ‘Come home with me for a meal, and I will give you a gift.’ 8 But the man of God answered the king, ‘Even if you were to give me half your possessions, I would not go with you, nor would I eat bread or drink water here. 9 For I was commanded by the word of the Lord: “You must not eat bread or drink water or return by the way you came.” ’ 10 So he took another road and did not return by the way he had come to Bethel. 11 Now there was a certain old prophet living in Bethel, whose sons came and told him all that the man of God had done there that day. They also told their father what he had said to the king. 12 Their father asked them, ‘Which way did he go?’ And his sons showed him which road the man of God from Judah had taken. 13 So he said to his sons, ‘Saddle the donkey for me.’ And when they had saddled the donkey for him, he mounted it 14 and rode after the man of God. He found him sitting under an oak tree and asked, ‘Are you the man of God who came from Judah?’ ‘I am,’ he replied. 15 So the prophet said to him, ‘Come home with me and eat.’ 16 The man of God said, ‘I cannot turn back and go with you, nor can I eat bread or drink water with you in this place. 17 I have been told by the word of the Lord: “You must not eat bread or drink water there or return by the way you came.” ’ 18 The old prophet answered, ‘I too am a prophet, as you are. And an angel said to me by the word of the Lord: “Bring him back with you to your house so that he may eat bread and drink water.” ’ (But he was lying to him.) 19 So the man of God returned with him and ate and drank in his house. 20 While they were sitting at the table, the word of the Lord came to the old prophet who had brought him back. 21 He cried out to the man of God who had come from Judah, ‘This is what the Lord says: “You have defied the word of the Lord and have not kept the command the Lord your God gave you. 22 You came back and ate bread and drank water in the place where he told you not to eat or drink. Therefore your body will not be buried in the tomb of your ancestors.” ’ 23 When the man of God had finished eating and drinking, the prophet who had brought him back saddled his donkey for him. 24 As he went on his way, a lion met him on the road and killed him, and his body was left lying on the road, with both the donkey and the lion standing beside it. 25 Some people who passed by saw the body lying there, with the lion standing beside the body, and they went and reported it in the city where the old prophet lived. 26 When the prophet who had brought him back from his journey heard of it, he said, ‘It is the man of God who defied the word of the Lord. The Lord has given him over to the lion, which has mauled him and killed him, as the word of the Lord had warned him.’ 27 The prophet said to his sons, ‘Saddle the donkey for me,’ and they did so. 28 Then he went out and found the body lying on the road, with the donkey and the lion standing beside it. The lion had neither eaten the body nor mauled the donkey. 29 So the prophet picked up the body of the man of God, laid it on the donkey, and brought it back to his own city to mourn for him and bury him. 30 Then he laid the body in his own tomb, and they mourned over him and said, ‘Alas, my brother!’ 31 After burying him, he said to his sons, ‘When I die, bury me in the grave where the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones. 32 For the message he declared by the word of the Lord against the altar in Bethel and against all the shrines on the high places in the towns of Samaria will certainly come true.’ 33 Even after this, Jeroboam did not change his evil ways, but once more appointed priests for the high places from all sorts of people. Anyone who wanted to become a priest he consecrated for the high places. 34 This was the sin of the house of Jeroboam that led to its downfall and to its destruction from the face of the earth.
