Aufrichtung der zwölf Gedenksteine

1 Und es geschah, als die ganze Nation vollständig durch den Jordan gezogen war, da sprach der HERR zu Josua: (Jos 3,17; Jos 24,11) 2 Nehmt euch aus dem Volk zwölf Männer, einen Mann für ⟨jeden⟩ Stamm, (Jos 3,12) 3 und gebietet ihnen Folgendes: Hebt euch hier mitten im Jordan von der Stelle, wo die Füße der Priester auf festem Boden standen, zwölf Steine auf, bringt sie mit euch hinüber und legt sie in dem Nachtlager nieder, wo ihr diese Nacht verbringen werdet! 4 Da rief Josua die zwölf Männer, die er aus den Söhnen Israel eingesetzt hatte, je einen Mann für ⟨jeden⟩ Stamm. (Jos 3,12) 5 Und Josua sagte zu ihnen: Geht hinüber vor der Lade des HERRN, eures Gottes, mitten in den Jordan, und hebt euch jeder einen Stein auf seine Schulter, nach der Zahl der Stämme der Söhne Israel, (2Mo 24,4) 6 damit dies ein Zeichen in eurer Mitte ist! Wenn eure Kinder künftig^[1] fragen: Was ⟨bedeuten⟩ euch diese Steine? – (2Mo 12,26; Jos 4,21) 7 dann sollt ihr ihnen sagen: Das Wasser des Jordan wurde vor der Lade des Bundes des HERRN abgeschnitten! Bei ihrem Durchzug durch den Jordan wurde das Wasser des Jordan abgeschnitten! Und diese Steine sollen den Söhnen Israel für alle Zeiten^[2] zur Erinnerung dienen. (2Mo 12,14; 4Mo 17,5; 5Mo 16,3) 8 Da taten die Söhne Israel, wie Josua geboten hatte, hoben zwölf Steine auf aus der Mitte des Jordan, wie der HERR zu Josua geredet hatte, nach der Zahl der Stämme der Söhne Israel, brachten sie mit sich in das Nachtlager hinüber und legten sie dort nieder. (2Mo 12,28; 2Mo 24,4) 9 Zwölf Steine aber richtete Josua mitten im Jordan auf, an der Stelle, wo die Füße der Priester, die die Bundeslade trugen, gestanden hatten. Dort sind sie noch bis zum heutigen Tag. 10 Und die Priester, die Träger der Lade, blieben mitten im Jordan stehen, bis die ganze Sache ausgeführt war, die der HERR dem Josua geboten hatte dem Volk zu sagen; genauso wie Mose dem Josua befohlen hatte. Und das Volk eilte und zog hinüber. (Jos 3,17; Jos 24,11) 11 Und es geschah, als das ganze Volk vollständig hinübergezogen war, da zogen ⟨auch⟩ die Lade des HERRN und die Priester hinüber vor den Augen^[3] des Volkes. (Jos 3,17; Jos 24,11; Jes 52,12) 12 Und die Söhne Ruben und die Söhne Gad und der halbe Stamm Manasse zogen gerüstet vor den Söhnen Israel her, wie Mose zu ihnen gesagt hatte. (5Mo 33,21; Jos 1,14) 13 Etwa 40 000 zum Krieg Gerüstete zogen vor dem HERRN her zum Kampf in die Steppen von Jericho. (Ri 20,1) 14 An jenem Tag machte der HERR den Josua groß in den Augen von ganz Israel. Und sie fürchteten ihn, wie sie Mose gefürchtet hatten, alle Tage seines Lebens. 15 Und der HERR sprach zu Josua: 16 Befiehl den Priestern, die die Lade des Zeugnisses tragen, dass sie aus dem Jordan heraufsteigen! 17 Da befahl Josua den Priestern: Steigt aus dem Jordan herauf! 18 Und es geschah, als die Priester, die die Lade des Bundes des HERRN trugen, aus der Mitte des Jordan heraufstiegen, als die Fußsohlen der Priester kaum das Trockene berührt hatten^[4], da kehrte das Wasser des Jordan an seinen Platz zurück, und es floss wie früher^[5] über alle seine Ufer. (Jos 3,15) 19 Und das Volk stieg aus dem Jordan herauf am zehnten ⟨Tag⟩ des ersten Monats; und sie lagerten sich in Gilgal, an der Ostgrenze von Jericho. 20 Jene zwölf Steine aber, die sie aus dem Jordan genommen hatten, richtete Josua in Gilgal auf. 21 Und er sagte zu den Söhnen Israel: Wenn eure Söhne künftig^[6] ihre Väter fragen werden: Was bedeuten diese Steine? – (Jos 4,6) 22 ⟨dann⟩ sollt ihr es euren Söhnen ⟨so⟩ erklären^[7]: Trockenen Fußes^[8] hat Israel diesen Jordan durchquert. (Jos 3,17; Ps 66,6) 23 Denn der HERR, euer Gott, hat das Wasser des Jordan vor euch vertrocknen lassen, bis ihr hinübergezogen wart, wie der HERR, euer Gott, es mit dem Schilfmeer tat, das er vor uns vertrocknen ließ, bis wir hindurchgezogen waren, (2Mo 15,19) 24 damit alle Völker der Erde erkennen sollen, wie stark die Hand des HERRN ist^[9], damit ihr den HERRN, euren Gott, allezeit^[10] fürchtet. 1 After the whole nation had gone across the River Jordan, the LORD spoke to Joshua. He said, 2 ‘Choose 12 men from among the people. Choose one from each tribe. 3 Tell them to get 12 stones from the middle of the river. They must pick them up from right where the priests stood. They must carry the stones over with all of you. And they must put them down at the place where you will stay tonight.’ 4 So Joshua called together the 12 men he had appointed from among the Israelites. There was one man from each tribe. 5 He said to them, ‘Go back to the middle of the River Jordan. Go to where the ark of the LORD your God is. Each one of you must pick up a stone. You must carry it on your shoulder. There will be as many stones as there are tribes in Israel. 6 The stones will serve as a reminder to you. In days to come, your children will ask you, “What do these stones mean?” 7 Tell them that the LORD cut off the flow of water in the River Jordan. Tell them its water stopped flowing when the ark of the covenant of the LORD went across. The stones will always remind the Israelites of what happened there.’ 8 So the Israelites did as Joshua commanded them. They took 12 stones from the middle of the River Jordan. There was one stone for each of the tribes of Israel. It was just as the LORD had told Joshua. The people carried the stones with them to their camp. There they put them down. 9 Joshua also piled up 12 stones in the middle of the river. He piled them up right where the priests who carried the ark of the covenant had stood. And they are still there to this very day. 10 The priests who carried the ark remained standing in the middle of the River Jordan. They stayed there until the people had done everything the LORD had commanded Joshua. It was just as Moses had instructed Joshua. All the people went across quickly. 11 As soon as they did, the ark of the LORD and the priests also went across to the other side. The people were watching them. 12 Among the people who went across the river were men from the tribes of Reuben and Gad and half of the tribe of Manasseh. The men were ready for battle. They went across ahead of the rest of the Israelites. It was just as Moses had instructed them. 13 There were about 40,000 of them. All of them were ready for battle. They went across in front of the ark of the LORD. They marched to the plains around Jericho. They were prepared to go to war. 14 That day the LORD honoured Joshua in the eyes of all the Israelites. They had respect for Joshua as long as he lived. They respected him just as much as they had respected Moses. 15 Then the LORD spoke to Joshua. He said, 16 ‘Command the priests to come up out of the River Jordan. They are carrying the ark where the tablets of the covenant law are kept.’ 17 So Joshua gave a command to the priests. He said, ‘Come up out of the River Jordan.’ 18 Then the priests came up out of the river. They were carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD. As soon as they stepped out on dry ground, the water of the Jordan began to flow again. It went over its banks, just as it had done before. 19 On the tenth day of the first month the people went up out of the River Jordan. They camped at Gilgal on the eastern border of Jericho. 20 Joshua set up the 12 stones at Gilgal. They were the ones the people had taken out of the Jordan. 21 Then he spoke to the Israelites. He said, ‘In days to come, your children after you will ask their parents, “What do these stones mean?” 22 Their parents must tell them, “Israel went across the River Jordan on dry ground.” 23 The LORD your God dried up the Jordan for you until you had gone across it. He did to the River Jordan the same thing he had done to the Red Sea. He dried up the Red Sea ahead of us until we had gone across it. 24 He did it so that all the nations on earth would know that he is powerful. He did it so that you would always have respect for the LORD your God.’
