1Und dies ist es, was die Söhne Israel als Erbe im Land Kanaan erhielten, was ihnen der Priester Eleasar und Josua, der Sohn des Nun, und die Familienoberhäupter[1] der Stämme der Söhne Israel als Erbe austeilten, (4Mo 34,17; 5Mo 12,10; Jos 13,6; Jos 19,51; Jos 21,1)2durch das Los ihres Erbteils, wie der HERR durch Mose geboten hatte betreffs der neun Stämme und des halben Stammes. (4Mo 26,52; Jos 13,7; Jos 18,6; Hes 45,1)3Denn das Erbteil der zwei Stämme und des halben Stammes hatte Mose jenseits des Jordan gegeben. Den Leviten aber hatte er kein Erbteil in ihrer Mitte gegeben. (Jos 12,6; Jos 13,14)4Denn die Söhne Josef bildeten zwei Stämme, Manasse und Ephraim. Und man gab den Leviten kein Teil im Land, außer den Städten zum Wohnen und deren Weideplätzen für ihr Vieh und für ihre Habe. (1Mo 48,5; 4Mo 35,2; Jos 16,4)5Wie der HERR dem Mose geboten hatte, so taten die Söhne Israel, und sie verteilten das Land. (Jos 18,10)
Erbteil des Kaleb
6Da traten die Söhne Juda vor Josua in Gilgal, und Kaleb, der Sohn des Jefunne, der Kenasiter, sagte zu ihm: Du kennst das Wort, das der HERR zu Mose, dem Mann Gottes, meinet- und deinetwegen in Kadesch-Barnea geredet hat. (4Mo 13,6; 5Mo 33,1; 1Chr 23,14)7Vierzig Jahre war ich alt, als Mose, der Knecht des HERRN, mich von Kadesch-Barnea aussandte, um das Land auszukundschaften; und ich brachte ihm Antwort, wie es in meinem Herzen war[2]. (4Mo 13,26; 4Mo 13,30; Mt 12,34)8Meine Brüder aber, die mit mir hinaufgezogen waren, machten das Herz des Volkes verzagt[3]; ich aber bin dem HERRN, meinem Gott, treu nachgefolgt[4]. (4Mo 13,31; 4Mo 14,1; 4Mo 14,24; 5Mo 1,28; 5Mo 1,36)9Da schwor Mose an demselben Tag: Wenn nicht das Land, auf das dein Fuß getreten ist, dir und deinen Söhnen für ewig zum Erbteil wird[5]! Denn du bist dem HERRN, meinem Gott, treu nachgefolgt[6]. (Jos 1,3; Ps 37,9)10Und nun siehe, der HERR hat mich am Leben erhalten, wie er geredet hat. Es sind ⟨nun⟩ 45 Jahre, seitdem der HERR dieses Wort zu Mose geredet hat, als Israel in der Wüste umherzog; und nun siehe, ich bin heute 85 Jahre alt. (4Mo 14,34)11Ich bin heute noch so stark wie an dem Tag, als Mose mich aussandte. Wie meine Kraft damals, so ist meine Kraft jetzt, sowohl zum Kampf als auch um aus- und einzuziehen. (5Mo 33,25; 5Mo 34,7; Jes 40,31)12Und nun gib mir dieses Gebirge, von dem der HERR an jenem Tag geredet hat! Denn du hast an jenem Tag gehört, dass die Enakiter dort sind und große, feste Städte. Vielleicht ist der HERR mit mir, dass ich sie vertreibe, wie der HERR geredet hat. (4Mo 13,28; 4Mo 14,8; 5Mo 9,1; Jos 11,21; 1Sam 14,6)13Da segnete ihn Josua und gab dem Kaleb, dem Sohn des Jefunne, Hebron zum Erbteil. (1Mo 47,7; Jos 15,13; Jos 21,12; Ri 1,20; 1Sam 30,31; 1Chr 6,4; Neh 11,25)14Daher wurde Hebron dem Kaleb, dem Sohn des Jefunne, dem Kenasiter, zum Erbteil bis zum heutigen Tag, weil er dem HERRN, dem Gott Israels, treu nachgefolgt war. (2Chr 15,7; Gal 6,9)15Der Name Hebrons war aber vorher Stadt des Arba[7]; der war der größte Mann unter den Enakitern gewesen. – Und das Land hatte Ruhe vom Krieg. (Jos 11,23; Jos 15,13; Jos 21,12; Ri 1,20; 1Sam 30,31; 1Chr 6,4; Neh 11,25)
1The rest of the tribes of Israel received their shares of land in Canaan. Eleazar the priest and Joshua, the son of Nun, decided what each of the tribes should receive. The leaders of the tribes helped them make these decisions.2The shares of nine tribes and half of the tribe of Manasseh were decided by casting lots. That’s what the LORD had commanded through Moses.3Moses had given two tribes and the other half of the tribe of Manasseh their shares east of the River Jordan. But Moses had not given the Levites a share among the other tribes.4Manasseh and Ephraim were the sons of Joseph. They had become two tribes. The Levites didn’t receive any share of the land. They only received towns to live in and grasslands for their flocks and herds.5So the Israelites divided up the land, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
Joshua gives Hebron to Caleb
6The people of Judah approached Joshua at Gilgal. Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, spoke to Joshua. He said, ‘You know what the LORD said to Moses, the man of God. He spoke to him at Kadesh Barnea about you and me.7Moses, the servant of the LORD, sent me from Kadesh Barnea to check out the land. I was 40 years old at that time. I brought back an honest report to him. I told him exactly what I had seen.8Several other men of Israel went up with me. What they reported terrified the people. But I followed the LORD my God with my whole heart.9So on that day Moses made a promise to me. He said, “The land you have walked on will be your share. It will be the share of your children for ever. That’s because you have followed the LORD my God with your whole heart.” (5Mo 1,36)10‘The LORD has done just as he promised. He made the promise while Israel was wandering around in the desert. That was 45 years ago. He has kept me alive all this time. So here I am today, 85 years old!11I’m still as strong today as I was the day Moses sent me out. I’m just as able to go out to battle now as I was then.12So give me this hill country. The LORD promised it to me that day. At that time you yourself heard that the Anakites were living there. You also heard that their cities were large and had high walls around them. But I’ll drive them out, just as the LORD said I would. He will help me do it.’13Then Joshua blessed Caleb, the son of Jephunneh. He gave him Hebron as his share.14So ever since that time Hebron has belonged to Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite. That’s because he followed the LORD, the God of Israel, with his whole heart.15Hebron used to be called Kiriath Arba. It was named after Arba. He was the greatest man among the Anakites. So the land had peace and rest.
