Ahndung aller Versuche, Israel zur Verehrung eines anderen Gottes zu bewegen
2Wenn in deiner Mitte ein Prophet aufsteht oder einer, der Träume hat, und er gibt dir ein Zeichen oder ein Wunder[1], (Jer 27,9; Sach 10,2; Mt 7,15)3und das Zeichen oder das Wunder[2] trifft ein, von dem er zu dir geredet hat, indem er sagte: »Lass uns anderen Göttern – die du nicht gekannt hast – nachlaufen und ihnen dienen!«, (1Sam 26,19)4dann sollst du nicht auf die Worte dieses Propheten hören oder auf den, der die Träume hat. Denn der HERR, euer Gott, stellt euch auf die Probe, um zu erkennen, ob ihr den HERRN, euren Gott, mit eurem ganzen Herzen und mit eurer ganzen Seele[3] liebt. (5Mo 6,5; 5Mo 11,1; 2Petr 2,1; Offb 13,14)5Dem HERRN, eurem Gott, sollt ihr nachfolgen, und ihn sollt ihr fürchten. Seine Gebote sollt ihr halten und seiner Stimme gehorchen; ihm sollt ihr dienen und ihm anhängen. (5Mo 6,13; Jos 23,8; 1Sam 12,14; 2Chr 34,31; Jer 7,23)6Und jener Prophet oder der, der die Träume hat, soll getötet werden. Denn er hat Abfall vom HERRN, eurem Gott, gepredigt, der euch aus dem Land Ägypten herausgeführt und dich erlöst hat aus dem Sklavenhaus, um dich abzubringen von dem Weg, auf dem zu gehen der HERR, dein Gott, dir geboten hat. Und du sollst das Böse aus deiner Mitte wegschaffen. (2Mo 13,3; 5Mo 11,32; 5Mo 17,7; 5Mo 18,20; 5Mo 19,19; 5Mo 21,21; 5Mo 22,21; 5Mo 24,7; Jos 7,13; Ri 20,13; 1Kön 18,40; Jer 28,15; 1Kor 5,13)7Wenn dein Bruder, der Sohn deiner Mutter, oder dein Sohn oder deine Tochter oder die Frau an deinem Busen[4] oder dein Freund, der dir wie dein Leben[5] ist, dich heimlich verführt, indem er sagt: Lass uns gehen und anderen Göttern dienen! – die du nicht gekannt hast, ⟨weder⟩ du noch deine Väter, (2Chr 22,3; Jer 44,15)8von den Göttern der Völker, die rings um euch her sind, nahe bei dir oder fern von dir, von einem Ende der Erde[6] bis zum anderen Ende der Erde[7] –, (5Mo 28,64; 5Mo 32,17; Ri 10,6)9dann darfst du ihm nicht zu Willen sein, und du sollst seinetwegen nicht betrübt sein[8], nicht auf ihn hören und nicht schonen noch Mitleid ⟨mit ihm⟩ haben, noch ihn decken; (5Mo 7,16; 5Mo 25,12)10sondern du sollst ihn unbedingt umbringen[9]. Deine Hand soll zuerst gegen ihn sein, ihn zu töten, und danach die Hand des ganzen Volkes. (2Mo 32,27; 5Mo 17,5; 5Mo 17,7; 2Kön 11,18)11Und du sollst ihn steinigen, dass er stirbt. Denn er hat versucht, dich vom HERRN, deinem Gott, abzubringen, der dich herausgeführt hat aus dem Land Ägypten, aus dem Sklavenhaus. (2Mo 13,3; 3Mo 20,2; 4Mo 25,4; Jos 7,25; Mt 10,37)12Und ganz Israel soll es hören, dass sie sich fürchten und in deiner Mitte nicht länger ⟨so etwas⟩ wie diese böse Sache tun. (5Mo 17,13; 5Mo 19,20; 5Mo 21,21; Hes 23,48; 1Tim 5,20)13Wenn du von einer deiner Städte, die der HERR, dein Gott, dir gibt, dort zu wohnen, hörst:14Es sind Männer, ruchlose Leute[10], aus deiner Mitte hervorgetreten und haben die Bewohner ihrer Stadt verleitet, indem sie sagten: Lasst uns gehen und anderen Göttern dienen – die ihr nicht gekannt habt –, (1Sam 1,16; 1Sam 2,12; Apg 20,30; 2Kor 6,15)15dann sollst du untersuchen und nachforschen und genau fragen. Und siehe, ist es Wahrheit, steht die Sache fest, ist dieser Gräuel in deiner Mitte verübt worden, (5Mo 17,4; Ri 20,3; Esr 10,16)16dann sollst du die Bewohner dieser Stadt unbedingt mit der Schärfe des Schwertes erschlagen. Du sollst an ihnen und an allem, was in ihr ist, den Bann vollstrecken, auch an ihrem Vieh, mit der Schärfe des Schwertes. (2Mo 22,19; 4Mo 21,2; Jos 6,21)17Und alle Beute in ihr sollst du mitten auf ihren Platz zusammentragen und die Stadt und alle Beute in ihr dem HERRN, deinem Gott, als Ganzopfer mit Feuer verbrennen. Ewig soll sie ein Schutthaufen sein, sie soll nie mehr aufgebaut werden. (Jos 6,24; Jos 8,28)18Und nichts von dem Gebannten soll an deiner Hand haften bleiben, damit der HERR sich von der Glut seines Zornes abwendet und dir Barmherzigkeit erweist und sich über dich erbarmt und dich mehrt, wie er ⟨es⟩ deinen Vätern geschworen hat, (1Mo 22,17; 5Mo 7,26; Jos 7,26)19wenn du der Stimme des HERRN, deines Gottes, gehorchst, alle seine Gebote zu bewahren, die ich dir heute gebiete, dass du tust, was recht ist in den Augen des HERRN, deines Gottes. (5Mo 12,28; 5Mo 26,14)
1Suppose a prophet appears among you. Or someone comes who uses dreams to tell what’s going to happen. He tells you that a sign or something amazing is going to take place.2The sign or amazing thing he has spoken about might really take place. And then the prophet might say, ‘Let’s serve other gods. Let’s worship them.’ But you haven’t known anything about those gods before.3So you must not listen to what that prophet or dreamer has said. The LORD your God is testing you. He wants to know whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul.4You must worship him. You must honour him. Keep his commands. Obey him. Serve him. Remain true to him.5That prophet or dreamer must be put to death. He told you not to obey the LORD your God. The LORD brought you out of Egypt. He set you free from the land where you were slaves. He commanded you to live the way he wants you to. But that prophet or dreamer has tried to get you to be unfaithful to the LORD. Get rid of that evil person.6Suppose your very own brother or sister secretly tempts you to do something wrong. Or your child or the wife you love tempts you. Or your closest friend does it. Suppose one of them says, ‘Let’s go and worship other gods.’ But you and your people of long ago hadn’t known anything about those gods before.7They are the gods of the nations around you. Those nations might be near or far away. In fact, they might reach from one end of the land to the other.8Don’t give in to those who are tempting you. Don’t listen to them. Don’t feel sorry for them. Don’t spare them or save them.9You must certainly put them to death. You must be the first to throw stones at them. Then all the people must do the same thing.10Put them to death by throwing stones at them. They tried to turn you away from the LORD your God. He brought you out of Egypt. That’s the land where you were slaves.11After you kill those who tempted you, all the Israelites will hear about it. And they will be too scared to do an evil thing like that again.12The LORD your God is giving you towns to live in. But suppose you hear something bad about one of those towns.13You hear that people who cause trouble have appeared among you. They’ve tried to get the people of their town to do something wrong. They’ve said, ‘Let’s go and worship other gods.’ But you haven’t known anything about those gods before.14So you must ask people some questions. You must check out the matter carefully. If it’s true, an evil thing has really happened among you. It’s something the LORD hates.15Then you must certainly kill with your swords everyone who lives in that town. You must destroy it completely. You must wipe out its people and livestock.16You must gather all the goods of that town into the middle of the main street. You must burn the town completely. You must burn up everything in it. It’s a whole burnt offering to the LORD your God. The town must remain a pile of stones for ever. It must never be built again.17Don’t keep anything that should be destroyed. Then the LORD will turn away from his great anger. He will show you mercy. He’ll have deep concern for you. He’ll cause there to be many of you. That’s what he promised your people of long ago. He gave his word when he made the promise.18The LORD your God will do those things if you obey him. I’m giving you his commands today. And you must obey all of them. You must do what is right in his eyes.
