Anforderungen an die Priester

1 Und der HERR sprach zu Mose: Rede zu den Priestern, den Söhnen Aarons, und sage zu ihnen: Keiner von ihnen darf sich^[1] an einer Leiche^[2] unrein machen unter seinen Volksgenossen^[3], (4Mo 19,11; Hes 44,25) 2 außer an seiner Blutsverwandtschaft, die^[4] ihm nahesteht: an seiner Mutter und an seinem Vater, seinem Sohn, seiner Tochter und seinem Bruder 3 und an seiner Schwester, der Jungfrau, die ihm nahesteht, die noch keinem Mann ⟨zu eigen⟩ geworden ist; wegen dieser darf er sich unrein machen. 4 Er darf sich nicht unrein machen als Herr^[5] unter seinen Volksgenossen^[6], sich zu entweihen. 5 Sie sollen keine Glatze auf ihrem Kopf scheren, und den Rand ihres Bartes sollen sie nicht abscheren, und an ihrem Fleische sollen sie keine Einschnitte machen. (3Mo 19,27; Jes 15,2; Hes 44,20) 6 Sie sollen ihrem Gott heilig sein, und den Namen ihres Gottes sollen sie nicht entweihen, denn die Feueropfer des HERRN, das Brot ihres Gottes, bringen sie dar; und sie sollen heilig sein. 7 Eine Hure und eine Entehrte sollen sie nicht ⟨zur Frau⟩ nehmen, und eine von ihrem Mann verstoßene Frau sollen sie nicht nehmen; denn heilig ist er seinem Gott. (Hes 44,22) 8 Und du sollst ihn für heilig achten, denn das Brot deines Gottes bringt er dar. Er soll dir heilig sein; denn heilig bin ich, der HERR, der euch heiligt. 9 Und wenn die Tochter eines Priesters sich durch Hurerei entweiht, so entweiht sie ihren Vater; sie soll mit Feuer verbrannt werden. – (1Mo 38,24; 3Mo 20,14; Offb 17,16) 10 Und der Hohe Priester unter seinen Brüdern, auf dessen Kopf das Salböl gegossen worden und der geweiht ist^[7], um die ⟨heiligen⟩ Kleider anzulegen, soll seinen Kopf nicht ungepflegt lassen^[8] und soll seine Kleider nicht zerreißen. (3Mo 10,6; Mt 26,65) 11 Und er soll zu keiner Leiche kommen; um seines Vaters und um seiner Mutter willen soll er sich nicht unrein machen. (4Mo 19,14) 12 Und aus dem Heiligtum soll er nicht hinausgehen und nicht ⟨so⟩ das Heiligtum seines Gottes entweihen; denn die Weihe des Salböls seines Gottes ist auf ihm. Ich bin der HERR. (3Mo 10,7; 4Mo 6,6) 13 Und er soll eine Frau in ihrer Jungfrauschaft nehmen. (Hes 44,22) 14 Eine Witwe und eine Verstoßene und eine Entehrte, eine Hure, diese soll er nicht nehmen, sondern eine Jungfrau aus seinen Volksgenossen^[9] soll er zur Frau nehmen. 16 Und der HERR redete zu Mose: 17 Rede zu Aaron: Jemand von deinen Nachkommen bei ihren Generationen, an dem ein Makel ist, darf nicht herannahen, um das Brot seines Gottes darzubringen; 18 denn jedermann, an dem ein Makel ist, darf nicht herannahen, ⟨sei es⟩ ein blinder Mann oder ein lahmer oder einer mit gespaltener Nase oder der ein Glied zu lang hat^[11], 19 oder ein Mann, der einen Bruch am Fuß oder einen Bruch an der Hand hat, 20 oder ein Buckliger oder ein Zwerg^[12] oder der einen ⟨weißen⟩ Flecken in seinem Auge hat oder der die Krätze oder Flechte oder der zerdrückte Hoden hat. (5Mo 23,2) 21 Jedermann von den Nachkommen des Priesters Aaron, der einen Makel hat, soll nicht herantreten, die Feueropfer des HERRN darzubringen. Ein Makel ist an ihm, er soll nicht herzutreten, das Brot seines Gottes darzubringen. 22 Das Brot seines Gottes von dem Hochheiligen und von dem Heiligen mag er essen. 23 Nur zum Vorhang^[13] soll er nicht kommen, und an den Altar soll er nicht herantreten, denn ein Makel ist an ihm, dass er nicht meine Heiligtümer^[14] entweiht; denn ich bin der HERR, der sie heiligt. (3Mo 19,2; 3Mo 20,7; 3Mo 22,16; Neh 13,29)

24 Und so redete Mose zu Aaron und zu seinen Söhnen und zu allen Söhnen Israel.

Rules for priests

1 The LORD said to Moses, ‘Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron. Tell them, “A priest must not make himself ‘unclean’ by going near the dead body of any of his people. 2 But he can go near the body of a close relative. It could be his mother, father, son, daughter or brother. 3 He can also go near a sister who is not married. She would have depended on him because she did not have a husband. The priest can make himself ‘unclean’ by going near her body. 4 But he must not make himself ‘unclean’ by going near the bodies of people only related to him by marriage. Going near them would make him ‘unclean’. 5 ‘ “Priests must not shave any part of their heads. They must not shave off the edges of their beards. They must not make cuts on their bodies when someone dies. 6 Priests must be holy. They must be set apart for me. I am their God. They must not treat my name as if it were not holy. They must be holy because they bring food offerings to me. That is my food. 7 ‘ “They must not get married to women who are ‘unclean’ because they are prostitutes. They must not marry women who are divorced from their husbands. That is because priests are holy. They are set apart for me. I am their God. 8 Consider them as holy, because they offer up food to me. Consider them as holy, because I am holy. I am the LORD. I make you holy. 9 ‘ “Suppose a priest’s daughter makes herself ‘unclean’ by becoming a prostitute. Then she brings shame on her father. She must be burned to death. 10 ‘ “The high priest is the one among his brothers whose head has been anointed with olive oil. He has been appointed to wear the priest’s clothes. When someone dies, the high priest must not let his own hair hang loose. He must not tear his clothes to show how sad he is. 11 He must not enter a place where there is a dead body. He must not make himself ‘unclean’, even if his father or mother dies. 12 He must not leave the sacred tent of the LORD to take part in burying a body. That would bring shame on the tent. The anointing oil has set the high priest apart. I am the LORD. 13 ‘ “The woman the high priest gets married to must be a virgin. 14 He must not marry a widow or a woman who is divorced. He must not marry a woman who is ‘unclean’ because she is a prostitute. He must only marry a virgin. She must come from his own people. 15 If he doesn’t marry a virgin, he makes the children he has by her ‘unclean’. I am the LORD. I make him holy.” ’ 16 The LORD said to Moses, 17 ‘Speak to Aaron. Tell him, “No man in your family line with any flaws may come near to offer food to the LORD. This is true for all time to come. 18 No man who has any flaws can come near. No man who is blind or disabled can come. No man whose body is scarred or twisted can come. 19 No man whose foot or hand is disabled can come. 20 No man whose back is bent can come. No man who is too short can come. No man who has anything wrong with his eyes can come. No man who has boils or running sores can come. No man whose sex glands are crushed can come. 21 No man with any flaws who is in the family line of Aaron the priest may come near me. He can’t come to bring the food offerings to the LORD. If he has any flaws, he must not come near to offer food to the LORD. 22 He can eat the holy food. He can also eat my very holy food. 23 But because he has a flaw, he must not go near the curtain or approach the altar. If he does, he will make my sacred tent ‘unclean’. I am the LORD. I make everything holy.” ’ 24 So Moses told all these things to Aaron and his sons. He also told them to all the Israelites.
