1 Das Wort, das von dem HERRN zu Jeremia geschah, nachdem Nebusaradan, der Oberste der Leibwache, ihn von Rama entlassen hatte, als er ihn holen ließ, – er war nämlich mit Ketten gebunden mitten unter allen Weggeführten von Jerusalem und Juda, die gefangen nach Babel weggeführt werden sollten. 2 Und der Oberste der Leibwache ließ Jeremia holen und sagte zu ihm: Der HERR, dein Gott, hat dieses Unheil über diesen Ort angesagt. 3 Und der HERR hat es so kommen lassen und hat getan, wie er geredet hatte. Denn ihr habt gegen den HERRN gesündigt und auf seine Stimme nicht gehört, darum ist das mit euch geschehen. (Jer 11,17; Jer 22,8; Jer 39,16; Jer 50,7; Kla 2,17)

4 Und nun siehe, ich löse dich heute von den Ketten, die an deinen Händen sind. Wenn es gut ist in deinen Augen, mit mir nach Babel zu kommen, so komm, und ich werde mein Auge auf dich richten. Wenn es aber übel ist in deinen Augen, mit mir nach Babel zu kommen, so lass es. Siehe, das ganze Land ist vor dir.^[1] Du kannst gehen, wohin du willst.^[2] – 5 Und da er sich noch nicht ⟨dahin oder dorthin⟩ wenden wollte⟨, sagte er⟩: So kehre zurück zu Gedalja, dem Sohn Ahikams, des Sohnes Schafans, den der König von Babel über die Städte Judas ⟨als Statthalter⟩ eingesetzt hat, und wohne bei ihm mitten unter dem Volk! Oder wohin irgend es recht ist in deinen Augen zu gehen, ⟨dahin⟩ gehe! Und der Oberste der Leibwache gab ihm Wegzehrung und ein Geschenk und entließ ihn. 6 Und Jeremia kam zu Gedalja, dem Sohn Ahikams, nach Mizpa. Und er wohnte bei ihm mitten unter dem Volk, das im Land übrig geblieben war. (Jos 18,26; 2Kön 25,22)

Gedaljas Statthalterschaft und seine Ermordung durch Ismael

7 Und als alle Heerobersten, die ⟨sich noch⟩ im offenen Land ⟨befanden⟩^[3], sie und ihre Männer, hörten, dass der König von Babel Gedalja, den Sohn Ahikams, ⟨zum Statthalter⟩ über das Land eingesetzt und dass er ihm Männer, Frauen und Kinder und ⟨Leute⟩ von den Geringen des Landes anvertraut hatte, von denen, die nicht gefangen nach Babel weggeführt worden waren, (Jer 39,9; Jer 39,14; Jer 41,10) 8 da kamen sie zu Gedalja nach Mizpa; nämlich Ismael, der Sohn des Netanja, und Johanan und Jonatan, die Söhne des Kareach, und Seraja, der Sohn des Tanhumet, und die Söhne Efais, des Netofatiters, und Jesanja, der Sohn des Maachatiters, sie und ihre Männer. 9 Und Gedalja, der Sohn Ahikams, des Sohnes Schafans, schwor ihnen und ihren Männern: Fürchtet euch nicht, den Chaldäern zu dienen! Bleibt im Land und dient dem König von Babel, dann wird es euch gut gehen! (Jer 27,11) 10 Und ich, siehe, ich bleibe in Mizpa, um vor den Chaldäern zu stehen^[4], die zu uns kommen werden. Ihr aber sammelt Wein, Sommerobst und Öl ein und tut sie in eure Gefäße! Und wohnt in euren Städten, die ihr in Besitz genommen habt! (Jer 43,5) 11 Und auch alle Judäer, die in Moab und unter den Söhnen Ammon und in Edom und die in allen diesen Ländern waren, hörten, dass der König von Babel einen Rest in Juda gelassen und dass er Gedalja, den Sohn Ahikams, des Sohnes Schafans, ⟨zum Statthalter⟩ über sie eingesetzt hatte. 12 Da kehrten alle Judäer aus all den Orten zurück, wohin sie vertrieben worden waren, und sie kamen ins Land Juda zu Gedalja nach Mizpa. Und sie sammelten sehr viel Wein und Sommerobst ein. 13 Und Johanan, der Sohn des Kareach, und alle Heerobersten, die ⟨sich noch⟩ im offenen Land ⟨aufgehalten hatten⟩^[5], kamen zu Gedalja nach Mizpa, 14 und sie sagten zu ihm: Weißt du auch, dass Baalis, der König der Söhne Ammon, Ismael, den Sohn des Netanja, ausgesandt hat, um dich zu ermorden? Aber Gedalja, der Sohn Ahikams, glaubte ihnen nicht. (Jer 41,1; Jer 41,10) 15 Und Johanan, der Sohn des Kareach, sagte heimlich zu Gedalja in Mizpa: Lass mich doch hingehen und Ismael, den Sohn des Netanja, erschlagen, und niemand wird es erfahren! Warum soll er dich ermorden, dass alle Judäer^[6], die sich bei dir versammelt haben, zerstreut werden und der Rest von Juda verloren geht? (1Sam 26,8) 16 Aber Gedalja, der Sohn Ahikams, sagte zu Johanan, dem Sohn des Kareach: Tu diese Sache nicht, denn du redest eine Lüge über Ismael!

1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after that Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him being bound in chains among all that were carried away captive of Jerusalem and Judah, which were carried away captive unto Babylon. 2 And the captain of the guard took Jeremiah, and said unto him, The LORD thy God hath pronounced this evil upon this place. 3 Now the LORD hath brought it , and done according as he hath said: because ye have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you. 4 And now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains which were upon thine hand. If it seem good unto thee to come with me into Babylon, come; and I will look well unto thee: but if it seem ill unto thee to come with me into Babylon, forbear: behold, all the land is before thee: whither it seemeth good and convenient for thee to go, thither go. 5 Now while he was not yet gone back, he said , Go back also to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people: or go wheresoever it seemeth convenient unto thee to go. So the captain of the guard gave him victuals and a reward, and let him go. 6 Then went Jeremiah unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and dwelt with him among the people that were left in the land. 7 Now when all the captains of the forces which were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed unto him men, and women, and children, and of the poor of the land, of them that were not carried away captive to Babylon; 8 Then they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of a Maachathite, they and their men. 9 And Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan sware unto them and to their men, saying, Fear not to serve the Chaldeans: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you. 10 As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah to serve the Chaldeans, which will come unto us: but ye, gather ye wine, and summer fruits, and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken. 11 Likewise when all the Jews that were in Moab, and among the Ammonites, and in Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan; 12 Even all the Jews returned out of all places whither they were driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, unto Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits very much. 13 Moreover Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were in the fields, came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, 14 And said unto him, Dost thou certainly know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites hath sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to slay thee? But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam believed them not. 15 Then Johanan the son of Kareah spake to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, Let me go, I pray thee, and I will slay Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it : wherefore should he slay thee, that all the Jews which are gathered unto thee should be scattered, and the remnant in Judah perish? 16 But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said unto Johanan the son of Kareah, Thou shalt not do this thing: for thou speakest falsely of Ishmael.
