Größe und Sturz des Pharao

1 Und es geschah im elften Jahr, im dritten ⟨Monat⟩, am Ersten des Monats, da geschah das Wort des HERRN zu mir so: (Jes 19,1; Jes 20,1; Jer 43,8; Jer 46,1; Hes 8,1; Hes 29,1; Hes 30,1; Hes 32,1)

2 Menschensohn, sage zum Pharao, dem König von Ägypten, und zu seinem Prunk^[1]: Wem gleichst du in deiner Größe? 3 Siehe, eine Zypresse,^[2] eine Zeder auf dem Libanon, mit schönen Zweigen – ein Schatten spendender Wald – und von hohem Wuchs; und zwischen den Wolken war ihr Wipfel. (Dan 4,7) 4 Das Wasser zog sie groß, die Flut ließ sie hoch aufwachsen. Ihre Ströme hatte sie^[3] ausgehen lassen^[4] rings um ihre Pflanzung, und sie hatte ihre Kanäle ausgesandt zu allen Bäumen des Feldes. 5 Darum war ihr Wuchs höher als alle Bäume des Feldes; und ihre Zweige wurden zahlreich und ihre Äste lang von den vielen Wassern, als sie ⟨ihre Zweige⟩ ausbreitete. 6 In ihren Zweigen nisteten alle Vögel des Himmels, und unter ihren Ästen warfen alle Tiere des Feldes ⟨ihre Jungen⟩; und in ihrem Schatten wohnten all die vielen Nationen. (Ps 104,17; Hes 17,23) 7 Und sie war schön in ihrer Größe und in der Länge ihrer Zweige; denn ihre Wurzel war an vielen Wassern. 8 Die Zedern kamen ihr nicht gleich im Garten Gottes, die ⟨Zweige der⟩ Wacholder waren nicht zu vergleichen mit^[5] ihren Zweigen, und die ⟨Äste der⟩ Platanen waren nicht wie ihre Äste; kein Baum im Garten Gottes glich ihr in ihrer Schönheit. (Hes 28,13) 9 Ich hatte sie schön gemacht in der Menge ihrer Zweige; und alle Bäume Edens, die im Garten Gottes waren, beneideten sie. 10 Darum, so hat der Herr, HERR gesprochen: Weil sie hoch geworden ist^[6] an Wuchs und sie ihren Wipfel bis zwischen die Wolken streckte und ihr Herz sich wegen ihrer Höhe erhob, (Dan 5,20) 11 so werde ich sie in die Hand des Mächtigen der Nationen geben. Nach ihrer Gottlosigkeit soll er mit ihr handeln; ich habe sie verstoßen. (Mt 23,12) 12 Und Fremde, die gewalttätigsten Nationen, hieben sie um und warfen sie hin; auf die Berge und in alle Täler fielen ihre Zweige, und ihre Äste wurden zerbrochen in allen Bachrinnen des Landes. Und alle Völker der Erde zogen aus ihrem Schatten weg^[7] und ließen sie liegen; (Hes 28,7; Dan 4,11; Nah 3,18) 13 auf ihrem gefällten Stamm^[8] ließen sich alle Vögel des Himmels nieder, und auf ihren Ästen waren alle Tiere des Feldes, (Jes 18,6) 14 damit keine Bäume am Wasser sich ⟨mehr⟩ erheben mit ihrem Wuchs und ihren Wipfel bis zwischen die Wolken strecken und^[9] keine wassertrinkenden ⟨Bäume⟩ sich auf sich selbst stellen in ihrer Höhe^[10]. Denn sie alle sind dem Tod preisgegeben, hin zum Land der Tiefe, mitten unter den Menschenkindern, zu denen, die in die Grube hinabgefahren sind. (Ps 76,13) 15 So spricht der Herr, HERR: Am Tag, als sie in den Scheol hinabfuhr, habe ich um ihretwillen die Tiefe^[11] in Trauer versetzt, ich habe ⟨sie⟩ verhüllt und ihre Ströme zurückgehalten; die großen Wasser wurden gehemmt, und den Libanon hüllte ich in Trauer um ihretwillen, alle Bäume des Feldes wurden um ihretwillen ohnmächtig. (Hes 26,16) 16 Vom Getöse ihres Falls ließ ich die Nationen erbeben, als ich sie in den Scheol hinabfahren ließ mit denen, die in die Grube hinabfahren. Und alle Bäume Edens, das Auserlesene und Beste des Libanon, alle Wassertrinkenden trösteten sich im Land der Tiefe. (Jes 14,8) 17 Auch sie fuhren mit ihr in den Scheol hinab zu den vom Schwert Erschlagenen,^[12] und es kamen um, die in ihrem Schatten wohnten^[13], mitten unter den Nationen. (Kla 4,20) 18 Wem gleichst du^[14] so an Herrlichkeit und an Größe unter den Bäumen Edens? So wirst du mit den Bäumen Edens hinabgestürzt werden ins Land der Tiefe. Mitten unter den Unbeschnittenen wirst du liegen, bei den vom Schwert Erschlagenen. Das ist der Pharao und sein ganzer Prunk^[15], spricht der Herr, HERR^[16].

1 And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the third month , in the first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, and to his multitude; Whom art thou like in thy greatness? 3 Behold, the Assyrian was a cedar in Lebanon with fair branches, and with a shadowing shroud, and of an high stature; and his top was among the thick boughs. 4 The waters made him great, the deep set him up on high with her rivers running round about his plants, and sent out her little rivers unto all the trees of the field. 5 Therefore his height was exalted above all the trees of the field, and his boughs were multiplied, and his branches became long because of the multitude of waters, when he shot forth. 6 All the fowls of heaven made their nests in his boughs, and under his branches did all the beasts of the field bring forth their young, and under his shadow dwelt all great nations. 7 Thus was he fair in his greatness, in the length of his branches: for his root was by great waters. 8 The cedars in the garden of God could not hide him: the fir trees were not like his boughs, and the chesnut trees were not like his branches; nor any tree in the garden of God was like unto him in his beauty. 9 I have made him fair by the multitude of his branches: so that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied him. 10 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast lifted up thyself in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height; 11 I have therefore delivered him into the hand of the mighty one of the heathen; he shall surely deal with him: I have driven him out for his wickedness. 12 And strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off, and have left him: upon the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen, and his boughs are broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the people of the earth are gone down from his shadow, and have left him. 13 Upon his ruin shall all the fowls of the heaven remain, and all the beasts of the field shall be upon his branches: 14 To the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves for their height, neither shoot up their top among the thick boughs, neither their trees stand up in their height, all that drink water: for they are all delivered unto death, to the nether parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit. 15 Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day when he went down to the grave I caused a mourning: I covered the deep for him, and I restrained the floods thereof, and the great waters were stayed: and I caused Lebanon to mourn for him, and all the trees of the field fainted for him. 16 I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to hell with them that descend into the pit: and all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be comforted in the nether parts of the earth. 17 They also went down into hell with him unto them that be slain with the sword; and they that were his arm, that dwelt under his shadow in the midst of the heathen. 18 To whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? yet shalt thou be brought down with the trees of Eden unto the nether parts of the earth: thou shalt lie in the midst of the uncircumcised with them that be slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord GOD.
