Jakobs Begräbnis in Hebron

1 Da fiel Josef auf das Angesicht seines Vaters und weinte über ihm und küsste ihn. (1Mo 23,2; 2Kön 13,14) 2 Und Josef befahl seinen Dienern, den Ärzten, seinen Vater einzubalsamieren. Und die Ärzte balsamierten Israel ein. (2Chr 16,14) 3 Darüber wurden vierzig Tage für ihn voll, denn so lange währt die Zeit^[1] des Einbalsamierens. Und die Ägypter beweinten ihn siebzig Tage. (4Mo 20,29; 5Mo 34,8) 4 Und als die Tage, da man ihn beweinte, vorüber waren, redete Josef zum Haus des Pharao und sagte: Wenn ich doch Gunst gefunden habe in euren Augen, so redet doch vor den Ohren des Pharao und sagt: 5 Mein Vater hat mich schwören lassen und gesagt: Siehe, ich sterbe. In meinem Grab, das ich mir im Land Kanaan gegraben^[2] habe, dort begrabe mich! Und nun, lass mich doch hinaufziehen, dass ich meinen Vater begrabe und zurückkomme! (1Mo 47,29) 6 Da sagte der Pharao: Zieh hinauf und begrabe deinen Vater, wie er dich hat schwören lassen! 7 So zog Josef hinauf, um seinen Vater zu begraben; und mit ihm zogen hinauf alle Diener des Pharao, die Ältesten seines Hauses und alle Ältesten des Landes Ägypten 8 und das ganze Haus Josefs und seine Brüder und das Haus seines Vaters. Nur ihre Kinder und ihre Schafe und ihre Rinder ließen sie im Land Goschen zurück. 9 Sogar Wagen und Reiter zogen mit ihm hinauf, und es wurde ein ganz gewaltiges Heerlager. 10 Und sie kamen nach Goren-Atad^[3], das jenseits des Jordan liegt. Dort hielten sie eine sehr große und schwere Totenklage; und er veranstaltete für seinen Vater eine Trauerfeier von sieben Tagen. (1Sam 31,13; Hi 2,13; Apg 8,2) 11 Als aber die Bewohner des Landes, die Kanaaniter, die Trauerfeier bei Goren-Atad^[4] sahen, sagten sie: Eine schwere Trauerfeier ist das für Ägypten; daher gab man ihr den Namen Abel-Mizrajim^[5], sie ⟨liegt⟩^[6] jenseits des Jordan. 12 Und seine Söhne taten mit ihm so, wie er ihnen befohlen hatte; (1Mo 49,29) 13 und seine Söhne brachten ihn in das Land Kanaan und begruben ihn in der Höhle des Feldes Machpela, des Feldes, das Abraham zum Erbbegräbnis gekauft hatte von dem Hetiter Efron, angesichts von Mamre. 14 Dann kehrte Josef nach Ägypten zurück, nachdem er seinen Vater begraben hatte, er und seine Brüder und alle, die mit ihm hinaufgezogen waren, um seinen Vater zu begraben.

Josefs brüderliche Haltung – Sein Tod

15 Und als Josefs Brüder sahen, dass ihr Vater gestorben war, sagten sie: Wenn nun Josef uns anfeindet und uns gar all das Böse vergilt, das wir ihm angetan haben! (1Mo 27,41) 16 So entboten sie dem Josef und ließen sagen: Dein Vater hat vor seinem Tod befohlen und gesagt: 17 »So sollt ihr zu Josef sagen: Ach, vergib doch das Verbrechen deiner Brüder und ihre Sünde, dass sie dir Böses angetan haben!« Und nun vergib doch das Verbrechen der Knechte des Gottes deines Vaters! Da weinte Josef, als sie zu ihm redeten. 18 Und auch seine Brüder gingen und fielen vor ihm nieder und sagten: Siehe, da hast du uns als Knechte. (1Mo 37,7) 19 Josef aber sagte zu ihnen: Fürchtet euch nicht! Bin ich etwa an Gottes Stelle? (1Mo 30,2; 1Mo 45,5; 2Kön 5,7) 20 Ihr zwar, ihr hattet Böses gegen mich beabsichtigt; Gott ⟨aber⟩ hatte beabsichtigt, es zum Guten ⟨zu wenden⟩, um zu tun, wie es an diesem Tag ist, ein großes Volk am Leben zu erhalten. (1Mo 37,18; 1Mo 45,5) 21 Und nun, fürchtet euch nicht! Ich werde euch und eure Kinder versorgen. So tröstete er sie und redete zu ihrem Herzen. 22 Und Josef blieb in Ägypten, er und das Haus seines Vaters; und Josef lebte 110 Jahre. (2Mo 1,5) 23 Und Josef sah von Ephraim Söhne der dritten ⟨Generation⟩; auch die Söhne Machirs, des Sohnes Manasses, wurden auf die Knie Josefs geboren. (1Mo 30,3; Jos 17,1; 1Chr 7,14; Hi 42,16; Spr 17,6)

26 Und Josef starb, 110 Jahre alt; und sie balsamierten ihn ein, und man legte ihn in einen Sarg in Ägypten. (1Mo 25,7; 2Mo 1,6; Jos 24,29)

1 And Joseph fell upon his father' face, and wept upon him, and kissed him. 2 And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Israel. 3 And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of those which are embalmed: and the Egyptians mourned for him threescore and ten days. 4 And when the days of his mourning were past, Joseph spake unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying, 5 My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have digged for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my father, and I will come again. 6 And Pharaoh said, Go up, and bury thy father, according as he made thee swear. 7 And Joseph went up to bury his father: and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt, 8 And all the house of Joseph, and his brethren, and his father' house: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen. 9 And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen: and it was a very great company. 10 And they came to the threshingfloor of Atad, which is beyond Jordan, and there they mourned with a great and very sore lamentation: and he made a mourning for his father seven days. 11 And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This is a grievous mourning to the Egyptians: wherefore the name of it was called Abelmizraim, which is beyond Jordan. 12 And his sons did unto him according as he commanded them: 13 For his sons carried him into the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field for a possession of a buryingplace of Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre. 14 And Joseph returned into Egypt, he, and his brethren, and all that went up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father. 15 And when Joseph' brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him. 16 And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying, 17 So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him. 18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants. 19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God? 20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive. 21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them. 22 And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father' house: and Joseph lived an hundred and ten years. 23 And Joseph saw Ephraim' children of the third generation : the children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were brought up upon Joseph' knees. 24 And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. 25 And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence. 26 So Joseph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.
