Jakobs Segen über seine Enkel Ephraim und Manasse

1 Und es geschah nach diesen Dingen, dass man dem Josef sagte: Siehe, dein Vater ist krank. Da nahm er seine beiden Söhne, Manasse und Ephraim, mit sich. (1Mo 46,20; 2Kön 13,14) 2 Und man berichtete dem Jakob und sagte: Siehe, dein Sohn Josef kommt zu dir. Da machte Israel sich stark und setzte sich im Bett auf. 3 Und Jakob sagte zu Josef: Gott, der Allmächtige^[1], erschien mir in Lus im Land Kanaan, und er segnete mich (1Mo 17,1; 1Mo 28,13; 1Mo 35,6) 4 und sprach zu mir: »Siehe, ich will dich fruchtbar machen und dich vermehren, und ich will dich zu einer Schar von Völkern machen und dieses Land deiner Nachkommenschaft nach dir zum ewigen Besitz geben.« (1Mo 17,6; Hes 37,25) 5 Und nun, deine beiden Söhne, die dir im Land Ägypten geboren wurden, bevor ich zu dir nach Ägypten kam, sollen mir gehören; Ephraim und Manasse sollen mir gehören wie Ruben und Simeon. 6 Aber deine Kinder^[2], die du nach ihnen gezeugt hast, sollen dir gehören. Nach dem Namen ihrer Brüder sollen sie genannt werden in ihrem Erbteil. 7 Denn ich – als ich aus Paddan^[3] kam, starb Rahel bei mir im Land Kanaan, auf dem Weg, als es noch eine Strecke Landes war, um nach Efrata zu kommen; und ich begrub sie dort am Weg nach Efrata, das ist Bethlehem. (1Mo 35,19) 8 Als Israel die Söhne Josefs sah, sagte er: Wer sind diese? 9 Und Josef sagte zu seinem Vater: Das sind meine Söhne, die Gott mir hier gegeben hat. Da sagte er: Bring sie doch zu mir her, dass ich sie segne! (1Mo 27,4; 1Mo 33,5) 10 Die Augen Israels aber waren schwer vor Alter, er konnte nicht sehen. Und als er sie zu ihm gebracht hatte, küsste er sie und umarmte sie. (1Mo 27,1) 11 Und Israel sprach zu Josef: Ich hatte nicht gedacht, dein Gesicht ⟨noch einmal⟩ zu sehen; und siehe, Gott hat mich sogar deine Nachkommen sehen lassen! (1Mo 37,33; 1Mo 45,26; Ps 128,6) 12 Und Josef nahm sie von seinen Knien weg und beugte sich auf sein Gesicht zur Erde nieder. 13 Und Josef nahm sie beide, Ephraim mit seiner Rechten zur Linken Israels und Manasse mit seiner Linken zur Rechten Israels, und brachte sie zu ihm. 14 Da streckte Israel seine Rechte aus und legte sie auf Ephraims Kopf – obwohl er der Jüngere war – und seine Linke auf Manasses Kopf; er legte seine Hände über Kreuz. Denn Manasse war der Erstgeborene. 15 Und er segnete Josef und sprach: Der Gott, vor dessen Angesicht meine Väter, Abraham und Isaak, gelebt haben^[4], der Gott, der mich geweidet hat, seitdem ich bin, bis zu diesem Tag, (1Mo 24,40; 1Mo 27,27; 1Mo 35,3; 1Mo 49,22)

16 der Engel, der mich von allem Übel erlöst hat, segne die Jungen; und in ihnen werde mein Name genannt und der Name meiner Väter, Abraham und Isaak, und sie sollen sich vermehren zu einer Menge mitten im Land^[5]! (1Mo 22,15; 4Mo 26,34; 2Sam 4,9; 1Kön 1,29; Ps 34,8; Jes 63,9)

17 Und als Josef sah, dass sein Vater seine rechte Hand auf Ephraims Kopf legte, war es schlecht in seinen Augen; und er fasste die Hand seines Vaters, um sie von Ephraims Kopf wegzuwenden auf Manasses Kopf. 18 Und Josef sagte zu seinem Vater: Nicht so, mein Vater! Denn dieser ist der Erstgeborene. Lege deine Rechte auf seinen Kopf! 19 Aber sein Vater weigerte sich und sprach: Ich weiß es^[6], mein Sohn, ich weiß es^[7]. Auch er wird zu einem Volk werden, und auch er wird groß sein. Jedoch wird sein jüngerer Bruder größer sein als er, und seine Nachkommenschaft wird eine Fülle von Nationen werden. (1Mo 25,23; 4Mo 1,33; 5Mo 33,17) 20 Und er segnete sie an jenem Tag und sprach: Mit dir wird Israel segnen und sagen: Gott mache dich wie Ephraim und wie Manasse! So setzte er Ephraim vor Manasse. (Jos 17,14; Hebr 11,21) 21 Und Israel sprach zu Josef: Siehe, ich sterbe; aber Gott wird mit euch sein und euch in das Land eurer Väter zurückbringen. (1Mo 15,14; 1Mo 47,29) 22 Und ich gebe dir einen Bergrücken über deine Brüder hinaus, den ich aus der Hand der Amoriter mit meinem Schwert und mit meinem Bogen genommen habe. (Jos 24,32)

1 And it came to pass after these things, that one told Joseph, Behold, thy father is sick: and he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. 2 And one told Jacob, and said, Behold, thy son Joseph cometh unto thee: and Israel strengthened himself, and sat upon the bed. 3 And Jacob said unto Joseph, God Almighty appeared unto me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me, 4 And said unto me, Behold, I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and I will make of thee a multitude of people; and will give this land to thy seed after thee for an everlasting possession. 5 And now thy two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, which were born unto thee in the land of Egypt before I came unto thee into Egypt, are mine; as Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine. 6 And thy issue, which thou begettest after them, shall be thine, and shall be called after the name of their brethren in their inheritance. 7 And as for me, when I came from Padan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan in the way, when yet there was but a little way to come unto Ephrath: and I buried her there in the way of Ephrath; the same is Bethlehem. 8 And Israel beheld Joseph' sons, and said, Who are these? 9 And Joseph said unto his father, They are my sons, whom God hath given me in this place . And he said, Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I will bless them. 10 Now the eyes of Israel were dim for age, so that he could not see. And he brought them near unto him; and he kissed them, and embraced them. 11 And Israel said unto Joseph, I had not thought to see thy face: and, lo, God hath shewed me also thy seed. 12 And Joseph brought them out from between his knees, and he bowed himself with his face to the earth. 13 And Joseph took them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel' left hand, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel' right hand, and brought them near unto him. 14 And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid it upon Ephraim' head, who was the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh' head, guiding his hands wittingly; for Manasseh was the firstborn. 15 And he blessed Joseph, and said, God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God which fed me all my life long unto this day, 16 The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth. 17 And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him: and he held up his father' hand, to remove it from Ephraim' head unto Manasseh' head. 18 And Joseph said unto his father, Not so, my father: for this is the firstborn; put thy right hand upon his head. 19 And his father refused, and said, I know it , my son, I know it : he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations. 20 And he blessed them that day, saying, In thee shall Israel bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh: and he set Ephraim before Manasseh. 21 And Israel said unto Joseph, Behold, I die: but God shall be with you, and bring you again unto the land of your fathers. 22 Moreover I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow.
