1Und nach Abimelech stand auf, um Israel zu retten, Tola, der Sohn des Puwa, des Sohnes des Dodo, ein Mann aus Issaschar. Er wohnte in Schamir im Gebirge Ephraim. (Ri 2,16; Ri 3,27)2Und er richtete Israel 23 Jahre. Und er starb und wurde in Schamir begraben.3Und nach ihm stand Jaïr auf, der Gileaditer. Er richtete Israel 22 Jahre.4Und er hatte dreißig Söhne, die auf dreißig Eseln ritten, und sie hatten dreißig Städte. Diese nennt man die Zeltdörfer Jaïrs bis auf diesen Tag; sie ⟨liegen⟩ im Land Gilead. (4Mo 32,41; Ri 5,10)5Und Jaïr starb und wurde in Kamon begraben.
Unterdrückung der Israeliten durch Ammon
6Und die Söhne Israel taten weiter, was böse war in den Augen des HERRN, und sie dienten den Baalim und den Astarot und den Göttern Arams und den Göttern Sidons und den Göttern Moabs und den Göttern der Söhne Ammon und den Göttern der Philister. Und sie verließen den HERRN und dienten ihm nicht. (5Mo 13,6; Ri 2,11; Ri 8,33; 1Kön 11,5; Jer 2,20)7Da entbrannte der Zorn des HERRN gegen Israel, und er verkaufte sie in die Hand der Philister und in die Hand der Söhne Ammon. (Ri 2,14; Ri 6,1; Ri 13,1; 1Sam 12,9)8Und sie zerschmetterten und zerschlugen die Söhne Israel in jenem Jahr, ⟨und zwar⟩ achtzehn Jahre ⟨lang⟩ alle Söhne Israel, die jenseits des Jordan waren im Land der Amoriter, das in Gilead ist. (4Mo 32,39)9Und die Söhne Ammon zogen über den Jordan, um auch gegen Juda und gegen Benjamin und gegen das Haus Ephraim zu kämpfen. So war Israel in großer Bedrängnis. (Ri 2,15; Ri 3,13; Ri 6,2; 1Sam 13,6)10Da schrien die Söhne Israel zu dem HERRN um Hilfe und sagten: Wir haben gegen dich gesündigt, weil wir unseren Gott verlassen und den Baalim gedient haben. (Ri 4,3; Ri 6,6; 1Sam 7,6; Lk 15,17)11Und der HERR sprach zu den Söhnen Israel: Ist es nicht so? Von den Ägyptern und von den Amoritern, von den Söhnen Ammon und von den Philistern, (2Mo 14,30; 4Mo 21,24; Ri 3,28)12und als die Sidonier und Amalekiter und Maoniter[1] euch quälten[2] und als ihr da zu mir schriet, da habe ich euch aus ihrer Hand gerettet. (Ri 3,13; Ri 6,3; 1Chr 4,41; Ps 106,43)13Ihr aber, ihr habt mich verlassen und habt andern Göttern gedient. Darum werde ich nicht fortfahren, euch zu retten. (Ri 2,19; 2Chr 12,5; 2Chr 15,2; 2Chr 21,10; Jer 2,13)14Geht hin und schreit zu den Göttern um Hilfe, die ihr erwählt habt! Sollen sie euch doch retten zur Zeit eurer Not! (5Mo 32,38; 2Kön 3,13; Jes 46,7; Jes 57,13; Jer 2,28; Hes 20,39)15Da sagten die Söhne Israel zu dem HERRN: Wir haben gesündigt. Tu du uns nach allem, was gut ist in deinen Augen! Nur rette uns doch am heutigen Tag! (1Sam 3,18; 1Sam 7,6; Spr 28,13; Jes 26,16; Lk 15,17)16Und sie entfernten die fremden Götter aus ihrer Mitte und dienten dem HERRN. Da wurde seine Seele ungeduldig über das Elend Israels. (Ri 2,18; 1Sam 7,4; 1Sam 12,10; 2Kön 13,23; 2Chr 15,8; Ps 106,45; Jer 31,20; Mi 7,18)17Und die Söhne Ammon wurden zusammengerufen und lagerten in Gilead. Und die Söhne Israel versammelten sich und lagerten in Mizpa. (1Mo 31,49; Jos 13,26; Ri 11,29)18Da sagte das Volk, ⟨nämlich⟩ die Obersten von Gilead, einer zum andern: Wer ist der Mann, der anfängt, mit den Söhnen Ammon zu kämpfen? Er soll das Oberhaupt aller Bewohner Gileads werden. (Ri 11,4)

Further Disobedience and Oppression
6The people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the LORD and served the Baals and the Ashtaroth, the gods of Syria, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites, and the gods of the Philistines. And they forsook the LORD and did not serve him. (5Mo 31,16; Ri 2,11; Ri 2,13; Ri 10,10; 1Kön 11,5; 1Kön 11,7; 1Kön 11,33; 2Kön 23,13)7So the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of the Philistines and into the hand of the Ammonites, (Ri 2,14)8and they crushed and oppressed the people of Israel that year. For eighteen years they oppressed all the people of Israel who were beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.9And the Ammonites crossed the Jordan to fight also against Judah and against Benjamin and against the house of Ephraim, so that Israel was severely distressed.10And the people of Israel cried out to the LORD, saying, “We have sinned against you, because we have forsaken our God and have served the Baals.” (Ri 3,9; Ri 10,6)11And the LORD said to the people of Israel, “Did I not save you from the Egyptians and from the Amorites, from the Ammonites and from the Philistines? (2Mo 14,30; 4Mo 21,21; Ri 3,13; Ri 3,31)12The Sidonians also, and the Amalekites and the Maonites oppressed you, and you cried out to me, and I saved you out of their hand. (Ri 2,16; Ri 3,13; Ri 6,3)13Yet you have forsaken me and served other gods; therefore I will save you no more. (5Mo 32,15; Ri 10,6; Jer 2,13)14Go and cry out to the gods whom you have chosen; let them save you in the time of your distress.” (5Mo 32,37; 5Mo 32,38)15And the people of Israel said to the LORD, “We have sinned; do to us whatever seems good to you. Only please deliver us this day.”16So they put away the foreign gods from among them and served the LORD, and he became impatient over the misery of Israel. (Ri 2,18; Jes 63,9)17Then the Ammonites were called to arms, and they encamped in Gilead. And the people of Israel came together, and they encamped at Mizpah. (Ri 11,11; Ri 11,29)18And the people, the leaders of Gilead, said one to another, “Who is the man who will begin to fight against the Ammonites?
