1Als er aber von dem Berg herabgestiegen war, folgten ihm große Volksmengen. (Mk 1,40; Lk 5,12)2Und siehe, ein Aussätziger[1] kam heran und warf sich vor ihm nieder und sprach: Herr, wenn du willst, kannst du mich reinigen.3Und er streckte die Hand aus, rührte ihn an und sprach: Ich will. Sei gereinigt! Und sogleich wurde sein Aussatz gereinigt.4Und Jesus spricht zu ihm: Siehe, sage es niemandem, sondern geh hin, zeige dich dem Priester, und bring die Gabe dar, die Mose angeordnet hat, ihnen zum Zeugnis! (3Mo 14,1; Mt 9,30; Mt 12,16; Mt 16,20; Mk 1,34; Lk 17,14)
Heilung des Dieners eines Hauptmanns
5Als er aber nach Kapernaum hineinkam, trat ein Hauptmann zu ihm, der ihn bat (Lk 7,1)6und sprach: Herr, mein Diener liegt zu Hause gelähmt und wird schrecklich gequält.7Und Jesus spricht zu ihm: Ich will kommen und ihn heilen.8Der Hauptmann aber antwortete und sprach: Herr, ich bin nicht würdig, dass du unter mein Dach trittst; aber sprich nur ein Wort, und mein Diener wird gesund werden. (Ps 107,20)9Denn auch ich bin ein Mensch unter Befehlsgewalt[2] und habe Soldaten unter mir; und ich sage zu diesem: Geh hin!, und er geht; und zu einem anderen: Komm!, und er kommt; und zu meinem Knecht[3]: Tu dies!, und er tut es.10Als aber Jesus es hörte, wunderte er sich und sprach zu denen, die nachfolgten: Wahrlich, ich sage euch, bei keinem in Israel habe ich so großen Glauben gefunden. (Mt 15,28; Mk 6,6)11Ich sage euch aber, dass viele von Osten und Westen kommen und mit Abraham und Isaak und Jakob zu Tisch liegen werden in dem Reich[4] der Himmel, (Jes 49,12; Lk 13,29)12aber die Söhne des Reiches[5] werden hinausgeworfen werden in die äußere Finsternis; da wird das Weinen und das Zähneknirschen sein. (Mt 13,42; Mt 22,13; Mt 24,51; Mt 25,30; Lk 13,28; 2Petr 2,17)13Und Jesus sprach zu dem Hauptmann: Geh hin, dir geschehe, wie du geglaubt hast! Und der Diener wurde gesund in jener Stunde. (2Chr 20,20; Mt 9,22; Mt 9,29; Mt 15,28; Mk 9,23)
Heilung der Schwiegermutter des Petrus und anderer Kranker
14Und als Jesus in das Haus des Petrus gekommen war, sah er dessen Schwiegermutter fieberkrank daniederliegen. (Mk 1,29; Lk 4,38; 1Kor 9,5)15Und er rührte ihre Hand an, und das Fieber verließ sie; und sie stand auf und diente ihm.16Als es aber Abend geworden war, brachten sie viele Besessene zu ihm; und er trieb die Geister aus mit ⟨seinem⟩ Wort, und er heilte alle Leidenden, (Mt 4,23; Mt 17,18; Lk 4,35)17damit erfüllt wurde, was durch den Propheten Jesaja geredet ist, der spricht: »Er selbst nahm unsere Schwachheiten und trug unsere Krankheiten.« (Jes 53,4)
Rechte Nachfolge
18Als aber Jesus eine Volksmenge[6] um sich sah, befahl er, an das jenseitige Ufer wegzufahren. (Mk 4,35; Lk 8,22; Lk 9,57)19Und ein Schriftgelehrter kam heran und sprach zu ihm: Lehrer, ich will dir nachfolgen, wohin du auch gehst.20Und Jesus spricht zu ihm: Die Füchse haben Höhlen und die Vögel des Himmels Nester, aber der Sohn des Menschen hat nicht, wo er das Haupt hinlegt. (2Kor 8,9)21Ein anderer aber von seinen Jüngern sprach zu ihm: Herr, erlaube mir, vorher hinzugehen und meinen Vater zu begraben.22Jesus aber spricht zu ihm: Folge mir nach, und lass die Toten ihre Toten begraben! (Mt 4,19)
Stillung des Sturmes
23Und als er in das Boot gestiegen war, folgten ihm seine Jünger. (Mk 4,35; Lk 8,22)24Und siehe, es erhob sich ein heftiger Sturm[7] auf dem See, sodass das Boot von den Wellen bedeckt wurde; er aber schlief. (Ps 107,25; Mt 14,24)25Und sie traten hinzu, weckten ihn auf und sprachen: Herr, rette ⟨uns⟩, wir kommen um! (Ps 50,15; Mt 14,30)26Und er spricht zu ihnen: Was seid ihr furchtsam, Kleingläubige? Dann stand er auf und bedrohte die Winde und den See; und es entstand eine große Stille. (Ps 65,8; Ps 107,29; Mt 6,30; Mt 14,32)27Die Menschen aber wunderten sich und sagten: Was für einer ist dieser, dass auch die Winde und der See ihm gehorchen? (Ps 93,4)
Heilung zweier Besessener
28Und als er an das jenseitige Ufer gekommen war, in das Land der Gadarener, begegneten ihm zwei Besessene, die aus den Grüften hervorkamen. ⟨Sie waren⟩ sehr bösartig, sodass niemand auf jenem Weg vorbeigehen konnte. (Mk 5,1; Lk 8,26)29Und siehe, sie schrien und sagten: Was haben wir mit dir zu schaffen, Sohn Gottes? Bist du hierher gekommen, uns vor der Zeit zu quälen? (1Kön 17,18; Mk 1,23; Mk 1,24; Lk 4,34; Joh 2,4; Apg 8,7)30Es weidete aber fern von ihnen eine Herde von vielen Schweinen.31Die Dämonen aber baten ihn und sprachen: Wenn du uns austreibst, so sende uns in die Herde Schweine!32Und er sprach zu ihnen: Geht hin! Sie aber fuhren aus und fuhren in die Schweine. Und siehe, die ganze Herde stürzte sich den Abhang hinab in den See, und sie kamen um in dem Gewässer.33Die Hüter aber flohen und gingen in die Stadt und verkündeten alles und das von den Besessenen.34Und siehe, die ganze Stadt ging hinaus, Jesus entgegen, und als sie ihn sahen, baten sie, dass er aus ihrem Gebiet weggehen möge. The Faith of a Centurion
5When he had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, appealing to him, (Lk 7,1)6“Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.”7And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.”8But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. (Ps 107,20; Mt 8,16)9For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant,[3] ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”10When Jesus heard this, he marveled and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel[4] have I found such faith. (Mt 9,2; Mk 6,6)11I tell you, many will come from east and west and recline at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, (Jes 59,19; Mal 1,11; Lk 13,29; Eph 3,6)12while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness. Jesus Heals Many
14And when Jesus entered Peter’s house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever. (Mk 1,29; Lk 4,38; 1Kor 9,5)15He touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and began to serve him. (Mt 9,25)16That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. (Mt 4,24; Mt 8,8; Mt 8,28; Mt 8,33)17This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.” (Jes 53,4; Mt 1,22)
The Cost of Following Jesus
18Now when Jesus saw a crowd around him, he gave orders to go over to the other side. (Mt 14,22; Mk 4,35; Lk 8,22; Joh 6,15)19And a scribe came up and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” (Lk 9,57)20And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”21Another of the disciples said to him, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.”22And Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.” (Joh 5,25)
Jesus Calms a Storm
23And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. (Mk 4,36; Lk 8,22; Joh 6,16)24And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. (Joh 4,6)25And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” (Mt 14,30)26And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. (Hi 38,11; Ps 65,7; Ps 104,6; Mt 6,30; Mt 14,32; Lk 4,39; Joh 14,27)27And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?” (Mk 1,27; Lk 5,9)
Jesus Heals Two Men with Demons
28And when he came to the other side, to the country of the Gadarenes,[5] two demon-possessed[6] men met him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce that no one could pass that way. (Mt 8,16; Mk 5,1; Lk 8,26; Offb 18,2)29And behold, they cried out, “What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?” (Mt 4,3; Mt 4,6; Mt 14,33; Mk 1,23; Mk 1,26; Lk 4,34; Apg 8,7; Offb 12,12)30Now a herd of many pigs was feeding at some distance from them.31And the demons begged him, saying, “If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of pigs.”32And he said to them, “Go.” So they came out and went into the pigs, and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the waters.33The herdsmen fled, and going into the city they told everything, especially what had happened to the demon-possessed men. (Mt 8,16)34And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus, and when they saw him, they begged him to leave their region. (1Kön 17,18; Lk 5,8; Apg 16,39)
