Erste Rede Gottes: Fragen nach dem Urheber der Schöpfung, der leblosen und belebten Natur
1Da antwortete der HERR dem Hiob aus dem Sturm und sprach: (Hi 11,5; Hi 40,1; Hes 1,4; Nah 1,3)2Wer ist es, der den Ratschluss verdunkelt mit Worten ohne Erkenntnis? (Hi 34,35; Hi 42,3)3Gürte doch wie ein Mann deine Lenden! Dann will ich dich fragen, und du sollst mich belehren[1]! (Hi 21,22; Hi 40,2; Hi 42,4; Lk 12,35)4Wo warst du, als ich die Erde gründete? Teile es mit, wenn du Einsicht kennst! (Hi 15,7; Ps 102,26; Spr 3,19)5Wer hat ihre Maße bestimmt, wenn du es kennst? Oder wer hat über ihr die Messschnur ausgespannt? (Hi 28,25)6Worauf sind ihre Sockel eingesenkt? Oder wer hat ihren Eckstein gelegt, (1Sam 2,8)7als die Morgensterne miteinander jubelten und alle Söhne Gottes jauchzten? (Hi 2,1)8Wer hat[2] das Meer mit Torflügeln verschlossen, als es hervorbrach, dem Mutterschoß entquoll, (1Mo 1,9)9als ich Gewölk zu seinem Gewand machte und Wolkendunkel zu seinen Windeln10und ich ihm meine Grenze zog[3] und Riegel und Torflügel einsetzte11und sprach: Bis hierher kommst du und nicht weiter, und hier soll aufhören der Stolz[4] deiner Wellen? (Hi 26,10; Ps 104,9; Spr 8,29; Jer 5,22)12Hast du einmal in deinem Leben[5] dem Morgen geboten? Hast du die Morgenröte ihre Stätte wissen lassen,13damit sie die Enden[6] der Erde erfasst, sodass die Gottlosen von ihr abgeschüttelt werden? (Hi 24,13; Ps 19,5)14Sie[7] verwandelt sich wie Siegelton[8], und alles steht da[9] wie ein Kleid;15und den Gottlosen wird ihr Licht entzogen, und der erhobene Arm wird zerbrochen. (Hi 24,13; Ps 10,15)16Bist du gekommen bis zu den Quellen des Meeres, und hast du den Urgrund der Tiefe durchwandelt?17Sind dir die Tore des Todes aufgedeckt worden, und hast du die Tore der Finsternis gesehen?18Hast du auf die Breiten der Erde geachtet? Teile es ⟨mir⟩ mit, wenn du das alles erkannt hast!19Wo ist denn der Weg dahin, wo das Licht wohnt? Und die Finsternis – wo ist denn ihre Stätte,20sodass du sie in ihr Gebiet bringen könntest und dass dir die Pfade zu ihrem Haus bekannt wären[10]?21Du hast es ⟨ja⟩ erkannt, denn damals warst du ⟨schon⟩ geboren, und die Zahl deiner Tage ist groß!22Bist du bis zu den Vorräten[11] des Schnees gekommen, und hast du die Vorräte[12] des Hagels gesehen, (Ps 147,16)23die ich aufgespart habe für die Zeit der Not, für den Tag des Kampfes und der Schlacht? (Jos 10,11; Hes 13,13)24Wo denn ist der Weg, auf dem das Licht sich verteilt, der Ostwind sich über die Erde zerstreut? (2Mo 14,21)25Wer furchte der Regenflut einen Wassergraben und einen Weg der donnernden Gewitterwolke, (Hi 28,26)26um regnen zu lassen auf ein Land ohne Menschen, auf die Wüste, in der kein Mensch ist, (Jer 10,13)27um zu sättigen die Öde und Verödung und um hervorsprießen zu lassen die Triebe des frischen Grases? (Hi 37,13; Ps 107,35; Ps 147,8)28Hat der Regen einen Vater, oder wer hat die Tautropfen gezeugt?29Aus wessen Schoß kam das Eis hervor, und des Himmels Reif, wer hat ihn geboren, (Hi 37,10; Ps 147,16)30wenn sich das Wasser wie in einem Stein versteckt hält und die Fläche der Tiefe fest gefügt ist? (Hi 37,10)31Knüpfst du die Bänder des Siebengestirns, oder löst du die Fesseln des Orion?32Kannst du die Tierkreisbilder hervortreten lassen zu ihrer Zeit und den Großen Bären leiten samt seinen Jungen[13]? (Hi 9,9)33Hast du die Ordnungen des Himmels erkannt, oder bestimmst du seine Herrschaft auf der Erde[14]?34Erhebst du deine Stimme zum Gewölk, sodass der Schwall des Wassers dich bedeckt?35Entsendest du Blitze, sodass sie hinfahren und zu dir sagen: Hier sind wir? (Hi 36,32; Hi 37,3)36Wer hat Weisheit in den Ibis[15] gelegt, oder wer hat dem Hahn Verstand gegeben?37Wer kann in Weisheit die Wolken zählen, und die Krüge des Himmels – wer kippt sie um[16], (1Mo 7,11)38wenn das Erdreich hart wird wie gegossenes Metall[17] und die Schollen aneinander kleben?39Erjagst du für die Löwin die Beute, und stillst du die Gier der jungen Löwen, (Ps 104,21)40wenn sie sich auf ⟨ihren⟩ Lagern ducken, im Dickicht auf der Lauer sitzen? (Ps 10,9)41Wer stellt dem Raben sein Futter bereit, wenn seine Jungen zu Gott schreien, umherirren ohne Nahrung? (Ps 147,9; Lk 12,24)

Or who stretched the line upon it?6On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone,7when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy? (Hi 1,6; Ps 19,1; Lk 2,13)8“Or who shut in the sea with doors when it burst out from the womb, (1Mo 1,9; Ps 33,7; Ps 104,8; Jer 5,22)9when I made clouds its garment and thick darkness its swaddling band, (Hi 22,13)10and prescribed limits for it and set bars and doors, (Hi 38,33)11and said, ‘Thus far shall you come, and no farther, and here shall your proud waves be stayed’? (Ps 65,7; Ps 89,9; Ps 93,4)12“Have you commanded the morning since your days began, and caused the dawn to know its place, (Ps 65,8; Ps 74,16)13that it might take hold of the skirts of the earth, and the wicked be shaken out of it? (Neh 5,13; Hi 37,3)14It is changed like clay under the seal, and its features stand out like a garment.15From the wicked their light is withheld, and their uplifted arm is broken. (Hi 18,5; Hi 24,13; Ps 10,15; Ps 37,17; Hes 30,21; Mt 6,23)16“Have you entered into the springs of the sea, or walked in the recesses of the deep? (Ps 77,19)17Have the gates of death been revealed to you, or have you seen the gates of deep darkness? (Hi 3,5; Ps 9,13; Ps 107,18; Jes 38,10; Mt 16,18)18Have you comprehended the expanse of the earth? Declare, if you know all this.19“Where is the way to the dwelling of light, and where is the place of darkness,20that you may take it to its territory and that you may discern the paths to its home? (Hi 24,13)21You know, for you were born then, and the number of your days is great! (Hi 15,7)22“Have you entered the storehouses of the snow, or have you seen the storehouses of the hail, (Ps 135,7)23which I have reserved for the time of trouble, for the day of battle and war? (Jos 10,11; Hi 37,13; Jes 28,17; Jes 30,30; Hes 13,11; Hes 13,13; Hes 38,22; Offb 16,21)24What is the way to the place where the light is distributed, or where the east wind is scattered upon the earth?25“Who has cleft a channel for the torrents of rain and a way for the thunderbolt, (Hi 28,26)26to bring rain on a land where no man is, on the desert in which there is no man, (Hi 37,13; Ps 107,35)27to satisfy the waste and desolate land, and to make the ground sprout with grass? (1Mo 1,11; 2Sam 23,4)28“Has the rain a father, or who has begotten the drops of dew? (Ps 147,8; Jer 14,22)29From whose womb did the ice come forth, and who has given birth to the frost of heaven? (Ps 147,16)30The waters become hard like stone, and the face of the deep is frozen. (Hi 37,10)31“Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades or loose the cords of Orion? (Hi 9,9; Am 5,8)32Can you lead forth the Mazzaroth[2] in their season, or can you guide the Bear with its children? (Hi 38,31)33Do you know the ordinances of the heavens? Can you establish their rule on the earth? (Jer 31,35)34“Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, that a flood of waters may cover you? (Hi 22,11)35Can you send forth lightnings, that they may go and say to you, ‘Here we are’?36Who has put wisdom in the inward parts[3] or given understanding to the mind?[4] (Hi 32,8; Ps 51,6)37Who can number the clouds by wisdom? Or who can tilt the waterskins of the heavens,38when the dust runs into a mass and the clods stick fast together? (Hi 21,33)39“Can you hunt the prey for the lion, or satisfy the appetite of the young lions, (Ps 104,21)40when they crouch in their dens or lie in wait in their thicket? (Hi 37,8; Ps 17,12)41Who provides for the raven its prey, when its young ones cry to God for help, and wander about for lack of food? (Ps 147,9; Mt 6,26; Lk 12,24)
