1Ihr Brüder[1] und Väter, hört jetzt meine Verantwortung vor euch! (Apg 7,2; Apg 9,1; Apg 26,9)2Als sie aber hörten, dass er sie in hebräischer Mundart anredete, hielten sie noch mehr Ruhe. Und er spricht:3Ich bin ein jüdischer Mann, geboren in Tarsus in Zilizien; aber auferzogen in dieser Stadt, zu den Füßen Gamaliels, unterwiesen nach der Strenge des väterlichen Gesetzes, war ich, wie ihr alle heute seid, ein Eiferer für Gott. Von ihnen empfing ich auch Briefe an die Brüder und reiste nach Damaskus, um auch diejenigen, die dort waren, gebunden nach Jerusalem zu führen, dass sie bestraft wurden.6Es geschah mir aber, als ich reiste und mich Damaskus näherte, dass um Mittag plötzlich aus dem Himmel ein helles Licht mich umstrahlte.7Und ich fiel zu Boden und hörte eine Stimme, die zu mir sprach: Saul, Saul, was verfolgst du mich?8Ich aber antwortete: Wer bist du, Herr? (Apg 16,37)26Als es aber der Hauptmann hörte, ging er hin und meldete dem Obersten und sprach: Was hast du vor zu tun? 30Am folgenden Tag aber, da er mit Gewissheit erfahren wollte, weshalb er von den Juden angeklagt sei, machte er ihn los und befahl, dass die Hohen Priester[7] und der ganze Hohe Rat[8] zusammenkommen sollten; und er führte Paulus hinab und stellte ihn vor sie. (Apg 23,28)

E Paolo disse: «Io, invece, l’ho di nascita».29Allora quelli che stavano per sottoporlo a interrogatorio si ritirarono subito da lui; e anche il tribuno, sapendo che egli era romano, ebbe paura perché lo aveva fatto legare.

30Il giorno seguente, volendo sapere con certezza di che cosa egli fosse accusato dai Giudei, lo liberò e ordinò ai capi dei sacerdoti e a tutto il sinedrio di radunarsi; e, condotto giù Paolo, lo fece comparire davanti a loro.
