1After this the Lord appointed seventy-two[1] others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go. (出24:1; 出24:9; 民11:16; 路9:2; 路9:52)2And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. (太9:37; 约4:35; 帖后3:1)3Go your way; behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves. (太10:16; 约17:18)4Carry no moneybag, no knapsack, no sandals, and greet no one on the road. (王下4:29; 太10:9; 可6:8; 路9:1; 路22:35)5Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house!’ (撒上25:6)6And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him. But if not, it will return to you. (诗35:13)7And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house. (提前5:18)8Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you.9Heal the sick in it and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ (太3:2; 路10:11)10But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say,11‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near.’ (尼5:13; 路10:9; 徒13:51; 徒18:6)12I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town. (太7:22; 太10:15)
Woe to Unrepentant Cities
13“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. (结28:2; 摩1:9; 太11:21)14But it will be more bearable in the judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you. (路10:13; 路12:47)15And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades. (赛14:13; 路16:23; 徒2:27)16“The one who hears you hears me, and the one who rejects you rejects me, and the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me.” (太10:40; 太25:45; 约5:23; 约12:48; 帖前4:8)
The Return of the Seventy-Two
17The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!” (可16:17; 路10:1)18And he said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. (赛14:12; 约12:31; 约16:11; 西2:15; 启9:1; 启12:8)19Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you. (诗91:13; 太13:39; 可16:18; 路21:18; 徒28:5; 羅8:28; 羅8:39)20Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” (出32:32; 诗69:28; 赛4:3; 结13:9; 但12:1; 太7:22; 腓4:3; 來12:23)
Jesus Rejoices in the Father’s Will
21In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.[2] (伯37:24; 诗8:2; 赛53:11; 太11:25; 太16:17; 太21:16; 可12:36; 路8:10; 路12:32; 徒17:24; 林前1:19; 林后3:14)22All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.” (太28:18; 约1:18; 约6:46; 约7:29; 约8:19; 约10:15; 约17:25; 约17:26)23Then turning to the disciples he said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see! (太13:16; 太16:17)24For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.” (约8:56; 來11:13; 彼前1:10)
The Parable of the Good Samaritan
25And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” (太19:16; 太19:29; 太22:34; 太25:34; 太25:46; 可10:17; 路7:30; 路18:18; 约8:6)26He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?”27And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” (利19:18; 申6:5; 太19:19; 太22:37; 可12:30)28And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.” (利18:5; 尼9:29; 结20:11; 羅10:5; 加3:12)29But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” (路16:15)30Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. (路18:31; 路19:28)31Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. (民8:19; 约1:19)32So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. (路10:31)33But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. (太10:5)34He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. (赛1:6)35And the next day he took out two denarii[3] and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’ (太18:28)36Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?”37He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”
Martha and Mary
38Now as they went on their way, Jesus[4] entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. (路19:6; 约11:1; 约11:19; 约12:2)39And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. (路8:35; 路10:38; 徒22:3)40But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.”41But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, (路12:22; 林前7:32)42but one thing is necessary.[5] Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.” (诗16:5)
