1Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, (太23:5; 可12:38; 路11:43; 路20:45)2“The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat, (申17:10; 拉7:6; 拉7:10; 拉7:25; 尼8:4; 约9:28)3so do and observe whatever they tell you, but not the works they do. For they preach, but do not practice. (太5:20; 太15:3; 羅2:17)4They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear,[1] and lay them on people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger. (太11:28; 路11:46; 徒15:10)5They do all their deeds to be seen by others. For they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long, (出13:9; 申6:8; 申11:18; 太6:1; 太6:16; 太9:20; 太23:1; 约5:44)6and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues (路11:43; 路14:7)7and greetings in the marketplaces and being called rabbi[2] by others. (太11:16; 太20:3; 太23:6; 约1:38)8But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brothers.[3] (路22:32; 约21:23; 门1:16; 雅3:1)9And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. (玛1:6; 太6:9; 太7:11; 林前1:12; 林前3:4)10Neither be called instructors, for you have one instructor, the Christ. (太1:17)11The greatest among you shall be your servant. (太20:26)12Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. (箴29:23; 结21:26; 太18:4; 路14:11; 路18:14; 雅4:6; 雅4:10; 彼前5:5)13“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. For you neither enter yourselves nor allow those who would enter to go in.[4] (太5:20; 太16:19; 太21:31; 路7:30; 路11:52)15Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel across sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a child of hell[5] as yourselves. (太5:29; 约17:12; 徒2:10; 徒6:5; 徒13:43; 帖后2:3)16“Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’ (太5:33; 太15:14; 太23:17; 太23:19; 太23:26; 约9:39; 羅2:19; 彼后1:9; 启3:17)17You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that has made the gold sacred? (出30:29)18And you say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gift that is on the altar, he is bound by his oath.’ (太5:23)19You blind men! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred? (出29:37)20So whoever swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it.21And whoever swears by the temple swears by it and by him who dwells in it. For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. (申14:22; 撒上15:22; 诗33:5; 赛28:25; 赛28:27; 耶5:1; 弥6:8; 亚7:9; 路11:42; 路18:12)24You blind guides, straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel! (太19:24)25“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and the plate, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. (太15:11; 可7:4; 路11:39; 路16:14; 路20:47)26You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and the plate, that the outside also may be clean. (太23:25)27“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people’s bones and all uncleanness. (民19:16; 王下23:16; 路11:44; 徒23:3; 弗5:3)28So you also outwardly appear righteous to others, but within you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. (太23:5; 路12:1)29“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the monuments of the righteous, (路11:47)30saying, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’31Thus you witness against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. (徒7:51)32Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers. (创15:16; 但8:23; 帖前2:15)33You serpents, you brood of vipers, how are you to escape being sentenced to hell? (太3:7; 太12:34; 太23:15)34Therefore I send you prophets and wise men and scribes, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will flog in your synagogues and persecute from town to town, (太10:16; 太10:17; 太10:23; 太13:52; 太21:35; 可13:9; 路11:49; 路12:11; 路21:12; 徒13:1; 徒22:19; 徒26:11; 林前12:28)35so that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah the son of Barachiah,[6] whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar. (创4:4; 创4:8; 出40:6; 王下16:14; 结40:47; 亚1:1; 路1:9; 來11:4; 约一3:12; 启18:24)36Truly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation. (太10:23; 太16:28; 太24:34)

37“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! (申32:11; 得2:12; 诗147:2; 箴1:24; 太21:35; 路13:34; 路19:41; 路23:28; 约5:40)38See, your house is left to you desolate. (赛64:11; 耶12:7; 耶22:5)39For I tell you, you will not see me again, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’” (诗118:26; 太21:9)
