1 Můj synu, na mé učení nezapomínej, ať tvé srdce příkazy mé dodržuje. 2 Prodlouží ti dny a léta života a přidají ti pokoj. 3 Ať tě neopouští milosrdenství a věrnost! Přivaž si je na hrdlo, napiš je na tabulku svého srdce. 4 Tak najdeš milost a uznání v očích Božích i lidských. 5 Důvěřuj Hospodinu celým srdcem, na svoji rozumnost nespoléhej. 6 Poznávej ho na všech svých cestách, on sám napřímí tvé stezky. 7 Nebuď moudrý sám u sebe, boj se Hospodina, od zlého se odvrať. 8 To dá tvému tělu zdraví a svěžest tvým kostem. 9 Cti Hospodina ze svého majetku i prvotinami z celé své úrody! 10 Bohatě se naplní tvé sýpky, moštem budou přetékat tvé kádě.

11 Neodvrhuj, můj synu, Hospodinovo kárání, neprotiv se jeho domlouvání. 12 Vždyť Hospodin domlouvá tomu, koho miluje, jako otec synu, v němž nalezl zalíbení. 13 Blaze člověku, jenž našel moudrost, člověku, jenž došel rozumnosti. 14 Nabýt jí je lepší nežli nabýt stříbra, její výnos je nad ryzí zlato. 15 Je drahocennější než perly, nevyrovnají se jí žádné tvé skvosty. 16 V její pravici je dlouhověkost, v její levici bohatství a čest. 17 Její cesty vedou k blaženosti, všechny její stezky ku pokoji. 18 Stromem života je těm, kdo se jí chopí, blaze těm, kdo se jí drží.

19 Hospodin moudrostí založil zemi, nebesa upevnil rozumností, 20 propastné tůně se jeho věděním rozpoltily a mraky vydaly krůpěje rosy. 21 Můj synu, ať toto ti nesejde z očí. Zachovej si pohotovost a důvtip. 22 To dá tvé duši život a milost tvému hrdlu. 23 Tehdy půjdeš bezpečně svou cestou, tvá noha se neporaní. 24 Ulehneš-li, nebudeš se strachovat, ulehneš a příjemný bude tvůj spánek. 25 Neboj se náhlého strachu, až přijde spoušť na svévolníky. 26 Hospodin bude po tvém boku, bude střežit před pastí tvou nohu. 27 Neodpírej dobrodiní těm, kteří je potřebují, je-li v tvé moci je prokázat. 28 Neříkej svému bližnímu: „Jdi a přijď zase a dám ti to zítra,“ když to máš s sebou. 29 Nechystej nic zlého na svého bližního, který s tebou důvěřivě bydlí. 30 S nikým neměj spory bez důvodu, jestliže se proti tobě nedopustil zlého. 31 Nezáviď násilníkovi, žádnou z jeho cest si nezvol. 32 Neboť Hospodin má neupřímného v ohavnosti, s přímými však je v důvěrném obecenství. 33 Hospodinovo prokletí spočívá na domě svévolníka, jeho požehnání na obydlí spravedlivých. 34 Vysmívá se posměvačům, pokorným však dává milost. 35 Čest připadne moudrým do dědictví, hlupáci si však odnesou hanbu.

13Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, (Př 8,34)14for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold.
