— Josef ve vězení - Josef vykládá sny dvěma královým vězňům.
1 I stalo se po těch událostech, že číšník egyptského krále a pekař se prohřešili proti svému pánu, egyptskému králi.2 Farao se na oba své dvořany rozlítil, na nejvyššího číšníka a na nejvyššího pekaře,3 a dal je do vazby v domě velitele tělesné stráže při pevnosti, kde byl uvězněn Josef.4 Velitel tělesné stráže Josefa ustanovil, aby jim posluhoval. Nějaký čas byli ve vazbě.5 Tu oba dva měli sen, číšník i pekař egyptského krále, uvěznění v pevnosti; téže noci měl každý svůj sen volající po výkladu.6 Když k nim Josef ráno přišel, viděl, jak jsou sklíčeni.7 Zeptal se faraónových dvořanů, kteří s ním byli v domě jeho pána ve vazbě: „Proč jste dnes tak zamlklí?“8 Odvětili mu: „Měli jsme sen, avšak není tu nikdo, kdo by jej vyložil.“ Josef jim nato řekl: „Což vykládat sny není věc Boží? Jen mi je vypravujte.“9 Nejvyšší číšník vypravoval tedy Josefovi svůj sen: „Ve snu jsem pojednou před sebou viděl vinnou révu10 a na té révě tři výhonky. Sotva réva vypučela, hned rozkvetla a její hrozny dozrály.11 V ruce jsem měl faraónovu číši. Bral jsem hrozny, vytlačoval je do faraónovy číše a podával jsem mu ji do ruky.“12 Josef mu pravil: „Toto je výklad snu: Tři výhonky jsou tři dny;13 již po třech dnech tvou hlavu farao povýší a tvou hodnost ti vrátí. Budeš faraónovi podávat do ruky jeho číši podle dřívějšího práva, kdy jsi býval jeho číšníkem.14 Vzpomeneš-li si na mě, až se ti dobře povede, prokaž mně milosrdenství: upozorni na mě faraóna a vyvedeš mě z tohoto domu.15 Vždyť jsem byl ukraden z hebrejské země a zde jsem se nedopustil naprosto ničeho, zač by mě měli vsadit do jámy.“ 16 Když nejvyšší pekař viděl, že Josef dobře vykládá, řekl mu: „Také já jsem měl sen: Hle, měl jsem na hlavě tři košíky pečiva.17 V nejhořejším košíku byly všelijaké pokrmy, upečené pro faraóna. A ptáci je jedli z košíku na mé hlavě.“18 Josef odpověděl: „Toto je výklad snu: Tři košíky jsou tři dny.19 Již po třech dnech tvou hlavu farao povýší nad tebe – oběsí tě na dřevě. A ptáci budou z tebe rvát maso.“20 Stalo se pak třetího dne, v den faraónových narozenin, že farao vystrojil hody pro všechny své služebníky. Uprostřed svých služebníků povýšil hlavu nejvyššího číšníka a hlavu nejvyššího pekaře:21 nejvyššího číšníka znovu dosadil do jeho číšnického úřadu, aby podával faraónovi do ruky číši,22 a nejvyššího pekaře oběsil, jak jim vyložil Josef.23 Nejvyšší číšník si však na Josefa nevzpomněl; zapomněl na něho.
1Some time after this, the cupbearer of the king of Egypt and his baker committed an offense against their lord the king of Egypt. (Neh 1,11)2And Pharaoh was angry with his two officers, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker,3and he put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, in the prison where Joseph was confined. (Gn 39,20)4The captain of the guard appointed Joseph to be with them, and he attended them. They continued for some time in custody.5And one night they both dreamed—the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were confined in the prison—each his own dream, and each dream with its own interpretation.6When Joseph came to them in the morning, he saw that they were troubled.7So he asked Pharaoh’s officers who were with him in custody in his master’s house, “Why are your faces downcast today?” (Neh 2,2)8They said to him, “We have had dreams, and there is no one to interpret them.” And Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Please tell them to me.” (Gn 41,15; Gn 41,16; Da 2,28; Da 2,47)9So the chief cupbearer told his dream to Joseph and said to him, “In my dream there was a vine before me,10and on the vine there were three branches. As soon as it budded, its blossoms shot forth, and the clusters ripened into grapes.11Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup and placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand.”12Then Joseph said to him, “This is its interpretation: the three branches are three days. (Gn 40,18; Gn 41,12; Gn 41,26; Da 2,36)13In three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your office, and you shall place Pharaoh’s cup in his hand as formerly, when you were his cupbearer. (Gn 40,19; Gn 40,22; 2Kr 25,27; Ž 3,3; Jr 52,31)14Only remember me, when it is well with you, and please do me the kindness to mention me to Pharaoh, and so get me out of this house.15For I was indeed stolen out of the land of the Hebrews, and here also I have done nothing that they should put me into the pit.” (Gn 37,28; Gn 39,20)16When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was favorable, he said to Joseph, “I also had a dream: there were three cake baskets on my head,17and in the uppermost basket there were all sorts of baked food for Pharaoh, but the birds were eating it out of the basket on my head.”18And Joseph answered and said, “This is its interpretation: the three baskets are three days. (Gn 40,12)19In three days Pharaoh will lift up your head—from you!—and hang you on a tree. And the birds will eat the flesh from you.” (Gn 40,13; Gn 40,22)20On the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, he made a feast for all his servants and lifted up the head of the chief cupbearer and the head of the chief baker among his servants. (Gn 40,13; Gn 40,19; Mt 14,6; Mk 6,21)21He restored the chief cupbearer to his position, and he placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand. (Gn 40,13; Neh 2,1)22But he hanged the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them. (Gn 40,19)23Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.
