— Vítězství nad světem

1 Každý, kdo věří, že Ježíš je Kristus, je zrozen z Boha; a kdo má rád otce, má rád i jeho dítě. 2 Podle toho poznáváme, že milujeme Boží děti, když milujeme Boha a jeho přikázání zachováváme. 3 V tom je totiž láska k Bohu, že zachováváme jeho přikázání; a jeho přikázání nejsou těžká, 4 neboť kdo se narodil z Boha, přemáhá svět. A to vítězství, které přemohlo svět, je naše víra. 5 Kdo jiný přemáhá svět, ne-li ten, kdo věří, že Ježíš je Syn Boží? 6 To je ten, který přišel skrze vodu a krev: Ježíš Kristus. Ne pouze skrze vodu křtu, ale i skrze krev kříže; a Duch o tom vydává svědectví, neboť Duch jest pravda. 7 Tři jsou, kteří vydávají svědectví 8 – Duch, voda a krev – a ti tři jsou zajedno. 9 Přijímáme-li svědectví lidí, oč větší je svědectví Boží; Boží svědectví je to, co pověděl o svém Synu. 10 Kdo věří v Syna Božího, má to svědectví v sobě. Kdo nevěří Bohu, dělá z něho lháře, protože nevěří svědectví, které Bůh vydal o svém Synu. 11 A to je to svědectví: Bůh nám dal věčný život, a ten život je v jeho Synu. 12 Kdo má Syna, má život; kdo nemá Syna Božího, nemá život.

13 Toto píšu vám, kteří věříte ve jméno Syna Božího, abyste věděli, že máte věčný život. 14 Máme v něho pevnou důvěru, že nás slyší, kdykoliv o něco požádáme ve shodě s jeho vůlí. 15 A víme-li, že nás slyší, kdykoliv o něco žádáme, pak také víme, že to, co máme, jsme dostali od něho. 16 Vidí-li někdo, že jeho bratr se dopouští hříchu, který není k smrti, ať za něho prosí; a Bůh mu daruje život, jestliže nehřešil k smrti. Jest ovšem hřích, který je k smrti; o takovém neříkám, abyste za něj prosili. 17 Každá nepravost je hřích, ale je i hřích, který není k smrti.

18 Víme, že nikdo, kdo se narodil z Boha, nehřeší, ale Syn Boží jej chrání a Zlý se ho ani nedotkne. 19 Víme, že jsme z Boha, kdežto celý svět je pod mocí Zlého. 20 Víme, že Syn Boží přišel a dal nám schopnost rozeznávat, abychom poznali, kdo je pravý Bůh. A jsme v tom pravém Bohu, protože jsme v jeho Synu Ježíši Kristu. On je ten pravý Bůh a věčný život. 21 Děti, varujte se modlářství.

Overcoming the World

1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. Testimony Concerning the Son of God
