1 加利亞的兒子約哈難、何沙雅的兒子耶撒尼亞和其他將領及各階層的民眾前來， 2 對耶利米先知說：「求你答應我們的懇求，為我們這些餘民向我們的上帝耶和華祈求。你也看見了，我們本來人數眾多，現在卻寥寥無幾。 3 願你的上帝耶和華指示我們該去哪裡，該做什麼。」 4 耶利米先知說：「好。我必照你們說的向你們的上帝耶和華祈求，並把祂的話毫不隱瞞地告訴你們。」 5 他們說：「倘若我們不照你的上帝耶和華說的去做，願誠實可靠的耶和華作證指控我們！ 6 不論我們的上帝耶和華說什麼，我們都願意聽從。我們若聽祂的話，就必亨通。」 7 十天之後，耶和華的話傳給了耶利米。 8 耶利米便召集加利亞的兒子約哈難和眾將領及各階層的民眾， 9 對他們說：「你們讓我向以色列的上帝耶和華祈求，耶和華這樣說， 10 『如果你們留在這地方，我必扶持你們，決不毀滅你們；我必栽培你們，決不剷除你們。因為我為降在你們身上的災禍而難過。 11 不要懼怕巴比倫王，不要怕他，因為我必與你們同在，拯救你們脫離他的權勢。這是耶和華說的。 12 我必憐憫你們，也要讓他憐憫你們，使你們重歸故土。』 13 然而，如果你們不聽你們的上帝耶和華的話，不留在這地方， 14 非要去埃及住，以為那裡沒有戰爭，聽不見號角聲，也不會忍饑挨餓， 15 那麼，你們這些猶大的餘民就要聽聽耶和華的話。以色列的上帝——萬軍之耶和華說，『如果你們決意去埃及住， 16 你們所害怕的戰爭和饑荒必緊緊地跟著你們。你們必死在埃及。 17 凡決意去埃及住的人必要死於戰爭、饑荒和瘟疫，無人能逃脫我降的災禍。』 18 「以色列的上帝——萬軍之耶和華說，『我曾把烈怒傾倒在耶路撒冷人身上，如果你們去埃及，我也要把我的怒氣傾倒在你們身上。你們的下場將很可怕，被人責罵、咒詛和羞辱，再也見不到故土。』 19 猶大的餘民啊，耶和華已告訴你們不要去埃及。別忘了我今日給你們的警告， 20 你們是在自欺，因為原是你們請我去向我們的上帝耶和華祈求，讓我毫不隱瞞地把祂的話告訴你們，你們也答應遵行。 21 今日，我把你們上帝耶和華的話告訴了你們，你們卻不聽從。 22 因此，你們要清楚知道，你們如果決意去埃及住，必死於戰爭、饑荒和瘟疫。」

1 Then all the commanders of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least to the greatest, came near (耶6:13; 耶40:8; 耶40:13; 耶41:11; 耶43:2) 2 and said to Jeremiah the prophet, “Let our plea for mercy come before you, and pray to the Lord your God for us, for all this remnant—because we are left with but a few, as your eyes see us— (利26:22; 撒上7:8; 撒上12:19; 赛37:4; 耶36:7; 耶40:15; 耶42:20) 3 that the Lord your God may show us the way we should go, and the thing that we should do.” (拉8:21; 耶37:17) 4 Jeremiah the prophet said to them, “I have heard you. Behold, I will pray to the Lord your God according to your request, and whatever the Lord answers you I will tell you. I will keep nothing back from you.” (民22:18; 撒上3:18) 5 Then they said to Jeremiah, “May the Lord be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not act according to all the word with which the Lord your God sends you to us. (结3:16) 8 Then he summoned Johanan the son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces who were with him, and all the people from the least to the greatest, (耶42:1) 9 and said to them, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, to whom you sent me to present your plea for mercy before him: (耶42:2) 10 If you will remain in this land, then I will build you up and not pull you down; I will plant you, and not pluck you up; for I relent of the disaster that I did to you. (创6:6; 申32:36; 耶18:8; 耶24:6) 11 Do not fear the king of Babylon, of whom you are afraid. Do not fear him, declares the Lord, for I am with you, to save you and to deliver you from his hand. (耶22:25; 耶30:10; 耶41:18; 羅8:31) 12 I will grant you mercy, that he may have mercy on you and let you remain in your own land. (尼1:11) 13 But if you say, ‘We will not remain in this land,’ disobeying the voice of the Lord your God (耶43:4; 耶44:16) 14 and saying, ‘No, we will go to the land of Egypt, where we shall not see war or hear the sound of the trumpet or be hungry for bread, and we will dwell there,’ (耶4:19; 耶37:21; 耶41:17) 15 then hear the word of the Lord, O remnant of Judah. Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: If you set your faces to enter Egypt and go to live there, (申17:16; 耶42:19; 耶44:1; 耶44:12; 耶44:27) 16 then the sword that you fear shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine of which you are afraid shall follow close after you to Egypt, and there you shall die. (耶42:22; 耶44:12; 结11:8) 17 All the men who set their faces to go to Egypt to live there shall die by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence. They shall have no remnant or survivor from the disaster that I will bring upon them. (哀2:22) 18 “For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: As my anger and my wrath were poured out on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so my wrath will be poured out on you when you go to Egypt. You shall become an execration, a horror, a curse, and a taunt. You shall see this place no more. (耶7:20; 耶18:16) 19 The Lord has said to you, O remnant of Judah, ‘Do not go to Egypt.’ Know for a certainty that I have warned you this day (耶42:14; 耶43:2; 结2:5) 20 that you have gone astray at the cost of your lives. For you sent me to the Lord your God, saying, ‘Pray for us to the Lord our God, and whatever the Lord our God says, declare to us and we will do it.’ (耶42:2; 耶42:3) 21 And I have this day declared it to you, but you have not obeyed the voice of the Lord your God in anything that he sent me to tell you. (耶42:5) 22 Now therefore know for a certainty that you shall die by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence in the place where you desire to go to live.” (耶42:16)
