Начало на царуването на Саул – победа над амонците
1Тогава, след месец време, дойде амонецът Наас и се разположи на лагер срещу Явис в Галаад. Тогава всички жители на Явис казаха на Наас: „Сключи с нас съюз и ние ще ти служим.“2В отговор амонецът Наас им каза: „Ще сключа с вас договор, но при условие че извадя на всеки от вас дясното око и чрез това навлека позор върху цял Израил.“3Старейшините на Явис му казаха: „Дай ни срок седем дена, за да изпратим пратеници по цялата израилска област. Не дойде ли никой да ни помогне, ще се съгласим с тебе.“4Пратениците отидоха в града на Саул, Гива, и оповестиха на народа всичко това. Тогава целият народ издигна вопъл и заплака.5И ето, Саул се прибираше от полето и вървеше след воловете. Той попита: „Какво е станало с народа, та плаче?“ И му съобщиха думите на жителите на Явис.6Когато Саул чу това известие, Божият Дух слезе върху него и той се разгневи силно. (1 Цар 10:10)7Взе два впрегнати вола, разсече ги на части и ги разпрати по цялата израилска област чрез онези пратеници със съобщението: „Така ще бъде постъпено с воловете на всеки, който не тръгне след Саул.“ Страх от Господа обзе народа и всички потеглиха като един човек. (Съд 19:29)8Когато Саул им направи преглед във Везек, оказаха се триста хиляди израилтяни и тридесет хиляди юдеи.9Поръчаха на дошлите пратеници: „Съобщете на жителите на Явис в Галаад това: „Утре, когато слънцето припече силно, ще получите помощ“.“ Пратениците отидоха, съобщиха това на жителите на Явис и те се зарадваха.10Жителите на Явис казаха на амонците: „Утре ще ви се предадем. Постъпете с нас, както намерите за добре.“11На следния ден Саул раздели народа на три отряда. Те проникнаха в стана по време на утринната стража и преди дневния пек поразиха амонците; оцелелите от тях бяха разпръснати така, че от тях не останаха даже и двама души заедно.12Тогава народът каза на Самуил: „Кои са тези, които бяха възкликнали: „Саул ли ще царува над нас?“ Дайте ни тези хора, за да ги избием.“ (1 Цар 10:27)13Но Саул възрази: „На днешния ден не бива да се убива никой, защото днес Господ извърши спасително дело в Израил.“ (2 Цар 19:23)14Самуил каза на народа: „Да отидем в Галгал и да осветим там царството.“15Тогава целият народ тръгна за Галгал. Then, if there is no one to save us, we will give ourselves up to you.”4When the messengers came to Gibeah of Saul, they reported the matter in the ears of the people, and all the people wept aloud. And Saul said, “What is wrong with the people, that they are weeping?” So they told him the news of the men of Jabesh.6And the Spirit of God rushed upon Saul when he heard these words, and his anger was greatly kindled. (1 Цар 10:6; 1 Цар 10:10)7He took a yoke of oxen and cut them in pieces and sent them throughout all the territory of Israel by the hand of the messengers, saying, “Whoever does not come out after Saul and Samuel, so shall it be done to his oxen!” Then the dread of the Lord fell upon the people, and they came out as one man. (Съд 1:5; Съд 20:15; 2 Цар 24:9)9And they said to the messengers who had come, “Thus shall you say to the men of Jabesh-gilead: ‘Tomorrow, by the time the sun is hot, you shall have salvation.’” When the messengers came and told the men of Jabesh, they were glad. (1 Цар 11:13)10Therefore the men of Jabesh said, “Tomorrow we will give ourselves up to you, and you may do to us whatever seems good to you.” (1 Цар 11:3)11And the next day Saul put the people in three companies. And they came into the midst of the camp in the morning watch and struck down the Ammonites until the heat of the day. And those who survived were scattered, so that no two of them were left together. (Съд 7:16; 1 Цар 31:11)
The Kingdom Is Renewed
12Then the people said to Samuel, “Who is it that said, ‘Shall Saul reign over us?’ Bring the men, that we may put them to death.” (1 Цар 10:27; Лк 19:27)13But Saul said, “Not a man shall be put to death this day, for today the Lord has worked salvation in Israel.” (Изх 14:13; 1 Цар 11:9; 1 Цар 19:5; 2 Цар 19:22)14Then Samuel said to the people, “Come, let us go to Gilgal and there renew the kingdom.”15So all the people went to Gilgal, and there they made Saul king before the Lord in Gilgal.
