Когато синовете на тази жена пораснаха, те прокудиха Йефтай с думите: „Ти не си наследник в бащиния ни дом, защото си син на друга жена.“ (Бит 21:10)3Така Йефтай побягна от братята си и заживя в страната Тов. При Йефтай се събраха безделници, които излизаха с него.4След известно време амонците потеглиха на война срещу Израил.5По време на войната на амонците с израилтяните дойдоха старейшините от Галаад да доведат Йефтай от страната Тов.6Те казаха на Йефтай: „Ела да ни станеш вожд, за да воюваме с амонците.“7Йефтай възрази на галаадските старейшини: „Вие ме намразихте и прокудихте от бащиния ми дом. Защо сте дошли при мене сега, когато сте изпаднали в беда?“8Галаадските старейшини отговориха на Йефтай: „Затова дойдохме сега при тебе, за да тръгнеш заедно с нас и да воюваш с амонците, и ще станеш за нас вожд на всички галаадски жители.“9А Йефтай заяви на галаадските старейшини: „Ако ме върнете у дома, за да воювам с амонците, и ако Господ ги предаде в моя власт – наистина ли ще ви стана вожд?“10Галаадските старейшини отговориха на Йефтай: „Господ да бъде свидетел помежду ни, че ще изпълним казаното от тебе!“11След това Йефтай тръгна заедно с галаадските старейшини и народът го издигна за свой вожд и предводител. Тогава Йефтай потвърди всичко това в светилището на Господа в Масифа.12Йефтай изпрати пратеници при амонския цар да му кажат: „Какво имаш с мене, че си дошъл при мене да воюваш в страната ми?“13Амонският цар отговори чрез пратениците на Йефтай: „Когато Израил дойде от Египет, той заграби страната ми от Арнон до Явок и Йордан. Затова върни ми я по мирен начин.“14След това Йефтай още веднъж изпрати пратеници при амонския цар15да му известят: „Така отсъжда Йефтай – Израил не е заграбвал Моавската страна, нито страната на амонците!16Защото когато Израил дойде от Египет, отиваше през пустинята към Червено море и беше дошъл в Кадес,17тогава израилтяните изпратиха пратеници при едомския цар да кажат: „Позволи ни да преминем през твоята земя.“ Но едомският цар не се съгласи. За същото помолихме и моавския цар, но и той не се съгласи; затова Израил остана в Кадес. (Чис 20:14)18Тогава те тръгнаха през пустинята, заобиколиха едомската страна и моавската страна и дойдоха до източната граница на моавската страна, като се разположиха на стан оттатък Арнон; но в моавските предели не навлязоха, защото Арнон е моавската граница.“ (Чис 21:4)19След това израилтяните изпратиха пратеници при Сихон, аморейския цар, който управляваше в Есевон, и помолиха: „Позволи ни да минем през твоята страна на път за нашата страна.“ (Чис 21:21; Вт 2:26)20Но Сихон не се съгласи да пропусне Израил през границите си. Затова Сихон събра всичките си мъже, разположи се на стан в Яац и започна да воюва с Израил.21Но Господ, Бог Израилев, предаде Сихон и всичките му мъже под властта на израилтяните. Те ги победиха. Така те превзеха цялата земя на аморейците, жителите на онази страна, като22завладяха всички области на аморейците от Арнон до Явок и от пустинята до Йордан.23„А сега, след като Господ, Бог Израилев, прогони аморейците пред своя народ Израил, ти искаш да я оспорваш?24Не владееш ли ти това, което ти е дал твоят бог Хамос? А ние владеем всичко онова, което ни е дал като наследство Господ, нашият Бог.25Нима ти си по-добър от моавския цар Валак, син на Сепфор? Спорил ли е той с израилтяните, или воювал ли е някога против тях? (Чис 22:2; И Н 24:9)26Израил живее вече триста години в Есевон и в подвластните му селища, в Ароер и в подвластните му селища, както и във всички градове, които са разположени край Арнон. А защо през това дълго време не сте ги завзели?27Що се отнася до мене, аз не съм ти сторил нищо лошо, но ти постъпваш несправедливо спрямо мене, като безпричинно започваш война. Господ Сам е Съдия – нека Той разреши спора между израилтяни и амонци!“28Но амонският цар не се вслуша в посланието на Йефтай, което той изпрати до него.29Тогава Господният Дух въздейства мощно над Йефтай и той тръгна на поход през цялата област на Галаад и Манасия, през Масифа при Галаад, за да потегли оттук на бой срещу амонците.
Дъщерята на Йефтай като оброк пред Господа
30Йефтай даде оброк пред Господа с думите: „Ако ти действително предадеш амонците под моя власт,31тогава този, който пръв излезе от вратата на къщата ми, за да ме посрещне при победоносното ми завръщане от битка с амонците, ще принадлежи на Господа, и аз ще го принеса в жертва всеизгаряне.“32Тогава Йефтай потегли към амонците, за да воюва с тях, и Господ ги предаде под властта му.33Той им нанесе силно поражение, превзе цялата област от Ароер до Минит по посока на Авел-Карамим, завладя двадесет града. Така амонците бяха усмирени пред израилтяните.34А когато Йефтай се завръщаше към Масифа в дома си – ето собствената му дъщеря излезе да го посрещне, играейки хоро с песни в съпровод на цимбали. Тя му беше единствено дете – нямаше нито син, нито друга дъщеря. (1 Цар 18:6)35Веднага щом Йефтай я видя, раздра дрехите си и викна: „Уви, дъще моя! Ти ме направи нещастен, ти ми докара беда! Със собствената си уста дадох обещание пред Господа и не мога да се отрека.“ (Чис 30:3)36Тя му отговори: „Татко мой! Щом си дал такова обещание пред Господа, тогава постъпи с мене според обета, който ти вече си обявил, тъй като Господ чрез тебе наложи възмездие на враговете ти – амонците!“37След това тя продължи към баща си: „Само една молба ми удовлетвори: дай ми още два месеца време, за да отида да се изкача на планините и заедно с моите приятелки да оплача своето девство.“38Той отговори: „Иди!“ И я пусна за два месеца. Тя отиде с приятелките си и оплаква своето девство в планините.39Когато минаха двата месеца, тя се завърна при своя баща. Тогава той извърши над нея оброка си, който бе обещал пред Господа. Тя обаче още не беше докосната от мъж. Оттук произлезе обичай у израилтяните –40девойките сред Израил всяка година да отиват в планините, за да възпяват и оплакват дъщерята на галаадеца Йефтай, по четири дена годишно.
1Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty warrior, but he was the son of a prostitute. Gilead was the father of Jephthah. (Съд 6:12; 4 Цар 5:1; Евр 11:32)2And Gilead’s wife also bore him sons. And when his wife’s sons grew up, they drove Jephthah out and said to him, “You shall not have an inheritance in our father’s house, for you are the son of another woman.”3Then Jephthah fled from his brothers and lived in the land of Tob, and worthless fellows collected around Jephthah and went out with him. (Съд 9:4; 1 Цар 22:2; 2 Цар 10:6; 2 Цар 10:8)4After a time the Ammonites made war against Israel.5And when the Ammonites made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to bring Jephthah from the land of Tob. (Съд 11:3)6And they said to Jephthah, “Come and be our leader, that we may fight against the Ammonites.”7But Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, “Did you not hate me and drive me out of my father’s house? Why have you come to me now when you are in distress?”8And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, “That is why we have turned to you now, that you may go with us and fight against the Ammonites and be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.” (Съд 10:18)9Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, “If you bring me home again to fight against the Ammonites, and the Lord gives them over to me, I will be your head.”10And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, “The Lord will be witness between us, if we do not do as you say.” (Ер 42:5)11So Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and leader over them. And Jephthah spoke all his words before the Lord at Mizpah. (Съд 10:17; Съд 10:18; Съд 11:6; Съд 11:8; Съд 20:1; 1 Цар 10:17; 1 Цар 10:19; 1 Цар 10:25; 1 Цар 11:15; 1 Цар 12:7)12Then Jephthah sent messengers to the king of the Ammonites and said, “What do you have against me, that you have come to me to fight against my land?”13And the king of the Ammonites answered the messengers of Jephthah, “Because Israel on coming up from Egypt took away my land, from the Arnon to the Jabbok and to the Jordan; now therefore restore it peaceably.” (Бит 32:22; Чис 21:13; Чис 21:24)14Jephthah again sent messengers to the king of the Ammonites15and said to him, “Thus says Jephthah: Israel did not take away the land of Moab or the land of the Ammonites, (Вт 2:9; Вт 2:19)16but when they came up from Egypt, Israel went through the wilderness to the Red Sea and came to Kadesh. (Чис 13:26; Чис 14:25; Вт 1:40)17Israel then sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, ‘Please let us pass through your land,’ but the king of Edom would not listen. And they sent also to the king of Moab, but he would not consent. So Israel remained at Kadesh. (Чис 20:1; Чис 20:14; Чис 20:18; Вт 1:46)18“Then they journeyed through the wilderness and went around the land of Edom and the land of Moab and arrived on the east side of the land of Moab and camped on the other side of the Arnon. But they did not enter the territory of Moab, for the Arnon was the boundary of Moab. (Чис 21:4; Чис 21:11; Чис 21:13; Чис 22:36; Вт 2:1)19Israel then sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, king of Heshbon, and Israel said to him, ‘Please let us pass through your land to our country,’ (Чис 21:21; Вт 2:26)20but Sihon did not trust Israel to pass through his territory, so Sihon gathered all his people together and encamped at Jahaz and fought with Israel.21And the Lord, the God of Israel, gave Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they defeated them. So Israel took possession of all the land of the Amorites, who inhabited that country.22And they took possession of all the territory of the Amorites from the Arnon to the Jabbok and from the wilderness to the Jordan.23So then the Lord, the God of Israel, dispossessed the Amorites from before his people Israel; and are you to take possession of them?24Will you not possess what Chemosh your god gives you to possess? And all that the Lord our God has dispossessed before us, we will possess. (Чис 21:29; Вт 9:5; Вт 18:12; И Н 3:10; 3 Цар 11:7)25Now are you any better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? Did he ever contend against Israel, or did he ever go to war with them? (Чис 22:2; И Н 24:9; Мих 6:5)26While Israel lived in Heshbon and its villages, and in Aroer and its villages, and in all the cities that are on the banks of the Arnon, 300 years, why did you not deliver them within that time? (Чис 21:25; Вт 2:36)27I therefore have not sinned against you, and you do me wrong by making war on me. The Lord, the Judge, decide this day between the people of Israel and the people of Ammon.” (Бит 16:5; Бит 18:25; Бит 31:53; 1 Цар 24:12; 1 Цар 24:15)28But the king of the Ammonites did not listen to the words of Jephthah that he sent to him.
Jephthah’s Tragic Vow
29Then the Spirit of the Lord was upon Jephthah, and he passed through Gilead and Manasseh and passed on to Mizpah of Gilead, and from Mizpah of Gilead he passed on to the Ammonites. (Съд 3:10)30And Jephthah made a vow to the Lord and said, “If you will give the Ammonites into my hand, (Бит 28:20; 1 Цар 1:11)31then whatever[1] comes out from the doors of my house to meet me when I return in peace from the Ammonites shall be the Lord’s, and I will offer it[2] up for a burnt offering.” (Лев 27:2; 1 Цар 1:28; Пс 66:13)32So Jephthah crossed over to the Ammonites to fight against them, and the Lord gave them into his hand.33And he struck them from Aroer to the neighborhood of Minnith, twenty cities, and as far as Abel-keramim, with a great blow. So the Ammonites were subdued before the people of Israel. (Ез 27:17)34Then Jephthah came to his home at Mizpah. And behold, his daughter came out to meet him with tambourines and with dances. She was his only child; besides her he had neither son nor daughter. (Изх 15:20; Съд 10:17; Съд 11:11; 1 Цар 18:6; Пс 68:25; Ер 31:4)35And as soon as he saw her, he tore his clothes and said, “Alas, my daughter! You have brought me very low, and you have become the cause of great trouble to me. For I have opened my mouth to the Lord, and I cannot take back my vow.” (Чис 30:2; Екл 5:4)36And she said to him, “My father, you have opened your mouth to the Lord; do to me according to what has gone out of your mouth, now that the Lord has avenged you on your enemies, on the Ammonites.”37So she said to her father, “Let this thing be done for me: leave me alone two months, that I may go up and down on the mountains and weep for my virginity, I and my companions.”38So he said, “Go.” Then he sent her away for two months, and she departed, she and her companions, and wept for her virginity on the mountains.39And at the end of two months, she returned to her father, who did with her according to his vow that he had made. She had never known a man, and it became a custom in Israel (Съд 11:31)40that the daughters of Israel went year by year to lament the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in the year.
