1Якуб посмотрел и увидел, что идёт Есав, и с ним четыреста человек. Он разделил детей между Лией, Рахилёй и двумя служанками.2Якуб поставил служанок и их детей впереди, Лию и её детей за ними, а Рахилю с Юсуфом позади всех.3Сам же он пошёл вперёд и, приближаясь к своему брату, поклонился до земли семь раз.4Но Есав побежал Якубу навстречу, обнял его, бросился ему на шею и расцеловал его; и они заплакали.5Есав посмотрел, увидел женщин и детей и спросил: – Кто это с тобой? Якуб ответил: – Это дети, которых Всевышний милостиво дал твоему рабу.6Подошли служанки со своими детьми и поклонились.7Потом подошли и поклонились Лия и её дети. После всех подошли Юсуф и Рахиля и тоже поклонились.8Есав спросил Якуба: – Почему ты послал все эти стада мне навстречу? – Я хотел найти расположение в твоих глазах, мой господин, – ответил он.9Есав сказал: – У меня всего вдоволь, брат. Оставь своё себе.10– Нет, прошу тебя! – сказал Якуб. – Если я нашёл расположение в твоих глазах, то прими от меня этот дар. Для меня видеть твоё лицо – это как увидеть лицо Всевышнего, ты ведь принял меня так милостиво.11Пожалуйста, прими от меня эти дары, потому что Всевышний был милостив ко мне, и у меня есть всё, что мне нужно. Якуб настаивал, и Есав принял дары.12Потом Есав сказал: – Идём, пора отправляться в путь; я буду держаться рядом с тобой.13Но Якуб ответил: – Мой господин знает, что дети слабы и что я должен заботиться о дойных овцах и коровах: если их сильно гнать хотя бы один день, то животные погибнут.14Так что пусть мой господин идёт впереди своего раба, а я пойду медленно, как смогут идти стада впереди меня и как смогут идти дети, пока не приду к моему господину в Сеир.15Есав сказал: – Позволь мне оставить с тобой несколько моих людей. – Зачем же? – спросил Якуб. – Достаточно и того, что я нашёл расположение в глазах моего господина.16И Есав в тот же день отправился в обратный путь к себе в Сеир.17Якуб же пошёл в Суккот, где он построил себе жилище и сделал шалаши для скота. Вот почему это место называется Суккот («шалаши»).18Придя из Паддан-Арама, Якуб благополучно прибыл в город Шехем в Ханаане и поселился перед городом.19За сто мер серебра[1] он купил у сыновей Еммора, отца Шехема, участок земли, на котором поставил свой шатёр.20Там он установил жертвенник и назвал его Ил-Илохе-Исраил («Всевышний, Бог Исраила»).

Entonces los dos se pusieron a llorar.5Luego Esaú alzó la vista y, al ver a las mujeres y a los niños, preguntó: ―¿Quiénes son estos que te acompañan? ―Son los hijos que Dios le ha concedido a tu siervo —respondió Jacob.6Las esclavas y sus hijos se acercaron y se inclinaron ante Esaú.7Luego, Lea y sus hijos hicieron lo mismo y, por último, también se inclinaron José y Raquel.8―¿Qué significan todas estas manadas que han salido a mi encuentro? —preguntó Esaú. ―Intentaba con ellas ganarme tu confianza —contestó Jacob.9―Hermano mío —repuso Esaú—, yo tengo más que suficiente. Quédate con lo que te pertenece.10―No, por favor —insistió Jacob—; si me he ganado tu confianza, acepta este presente que te ofrezco. Ya que me has recibido tan bien, ¡ver tu rostro es como ver a Dios mismo!11Acéptame el regalo que te he traído. Dios ha sido muy bueno conmigo, y tengo más de lo que necesito. Fue tanta la insistencia de Jacob que, finalmente, Esaú aceptó.12Más tarde, Esaú le dijo: ―Sigamos nuestro viaje; yo te acompañaré.13Pero Jacob se disculpó: ―Mi hermano y señor debe saber que los niños son todavía muy débiles, y que las ovejas y las vacas acaban de tener cría, y debo cuidarlas. Si les exijo demasiado, en un solo día se me puede morir todo el rebaño.14Es mejor que mi señor se adelante a su siervo, que yo seguiré al paso de la manada y de los niños, hasta que nos encontremos en Seír.15―Está bien —accedió Esaú—, pero permíteme dejarte algunos de mis hombres para que te acompañen. ―¿Para qué te vas a molestar? —contestó Jacob—. Lo importante es que me he ganado tu confianza.16Aquel mismo día, Esaú regresó a Seír.17Jacob, en cambio, se fue hacia Sucot, y allí se hizo una casa para él y cobertizos para su ganado. Por eso a ese lugar se le llamó Sucot.[1]18Cuando Jacob volvió de Padán Aram,[2] llegó sano y salvo a la ciudad de Siquén, en Canaán, y acampó frente a ella.19Luego, por cien monedas de plata[3] les compró una parcela a los hijos de Jamor, el padre de Siquén, y allí instaló su tienda.20También construyó un altar, y lo llamó El Elohé Israel.[4]
