Incredulidad de sus hermanos

1 Después de estas cosas, Jesús recorría Galilea, porque no quería andar en Judea, pues los judíos lo buscaban para matarlo. 2 Y estaba cerca la fiesta de los judíos, la de los Tabernáculos. 3 Entonces le dijeron sus hermanos: Sal de aquí y vete a Judea, para que también tus discípulos vean las obras que haces; 4 porque nadie hace algo en secreto y procura al mismo tiempo darse a conocer. Ya que haces estas cosas, manifiéstate al mundo. 5 (Porque ni aun sus hermanos creían en Él.) 6 Jesús les dice: Mi tiempo aún no ha llegado, pero vuestro tiempo siempre está presto. 7 No puede el mundo aborreceros, pero a mí me aborrece, porque Yo testifico de él, que sus obras son malvadas. 8 Subid vosotros a la fiesta. Yo no subo a esta fiesta, pues mi tiempo aún no se ha cumplido. 9 Y habiéndoles dicho estas cosas, se quedó en Galilea.

La fiesta de los Tabernáculos

10 Sin embargo, tan pronto como sus hermanos subieron a la fiesta, entonces Él también subió, no abiertamente, sino como en secreto. 11 Por tanto, los judíos lo buscaban en la fiesta, y decían: ¿Dónde está aquél? 12 Y había mucho murmullo entre las multitudes respecto a Él, pues unos decían: Es bueno; otros decían: No, sino que engaña a la gente. 13 Pero nadie hablaba francamente respecto a Él, por temor a los judíos. 14 Estando ya la fiesta a la mitad, Jesús subió al templo y allí enseñaba. 15 Y los judíos se asombraban, diciendo: ¿Cómo sabe éste letras, si no ha estudiado? 16 Entonces Jesús tomó la palabra y les dijo: Mi doctrina no es mía, sino del que me envió. 17 Si alguno quiere hacer su voluntad, conocerá la doctrina, si es de Dios, o si Yo hablo de mí mismo. 18 El que habla de sí mismo busca su propia gloria; pero el que busca la gloria del que lo envió, éste es veraz y en Él no hay injusticia. 19 ¿No os ha dado Moisés la ley? Pero ninguno de vosotros cumple la ley. ¿Por qué procuráis matarme? 20 La gente respondió: ¡Demonio tienes! ¿Quién procura matarte? 21 Respondió Jesús, y les dijo: Una sola obra hice, y todos os asombráis. 22 Moisés os ha dado la circuncisión (no que sea de Moisés, sino de los padres), y en sábado circuncidáis al varón. 23 Si un hombre recibe la circuncisión en sábado para que no sea quebrantada la ley de Moisés, ¿os enojáis conmigo porque en sábado sané enteramente a un hombre? 24 No juzguéis por apariencias, sino juzgad con justo juicio.

El Ungido de Dios

25 Decían entonces algunos de los de Jerusalem: ¿No es éste a quien buscan para matar? 26 Mirad, habla con libertad, y nada le dicen. ¿Será posible que los gobernantes hayan reconocido que éste es el Ungido? 27 Porque éste, sabemos de dónde es; pero cuando venga el Ungido, nadie sabrá de dónde es. 28 Jesús entonces, mientras enseñaba en el templo, alzó la voz y dijo: ¡Conque me conocéis y sabéis de dónde soy! Pero Yo no he venido de mí mismo, sino que el que me envió, a quien vosotros no conocéis, es verdadero. 29 Yo lo conozco porque vengo de parte suya, y Él me envió. 30 Entonces procuraban prenderlo, pero nadie pudo echarle mano, porque aún no había llegado su hora. 31 Pero muchos de la multitud creyeron en Él y decían: Cuando venga el Mesías, ¿hará acaso más señales que las que éste hizo? 32 Oyeron los fariseos a la gente comentando estas cosas de Él, y los principales sacerdotes y los fariseos enviaron alguaciles para que lo prendieran. 33 Entonces Jesús dijo: Aún estoy con vosotros un poco de tiempo, y me voy ante el que me envió. 34 Me buscaréis y no me hallaréis, y donde Yo estoy, vosotros no podéis ir. 35 Entonces los judíos dijeron entre sí: ¿A dónde intenta irse éste, que nosotros no lo hallaremos? ¿Se irá acaso a la dispersión de los griegos, a enseñar a los griegos? 36 ¿Qué significa la palabra esta que dijo: Me buscaréis, y no me hallaréis; y a donde Yo estoy, vosotros no podéis ir?

Ríos de agua viva

37 En el último día, el más grande de la fiesta, Jesús se puso en pie, y alzando la voz, dijo: ¡Si alguno tiene sed, venga a mí y beba! 38 El que cree en mí, como dijo la Escritura, de su vientre fluirán ríos de agua viva. 39 Esto dijo acerca del Espíritu que iban a recibir los que creyeran en Él, porque todavía no había Espíritu, pues Jesús no había sido aún glorificado.

Disensión entre la multitud

40 Y al oír estas palabras, de entre la multitud decían: ¡Verdaderamente éste es el Profeta! 41 Otros decían: ¡Éste es el Mesías! Pero otros decían: ¿Acaso el Mesías viene de Galilea? 42 ¿No dice la Escritura que el Mesías viene de la descendencia de David y de Bet-léhem, la aldea de David?

Fracaso de los alguaciles

43 Por esto surgió una división entre la gente a causa de Él, 44 y algunos de ellos querían prenderlo, pero nadie puso las manos sobre Él. 45 Así que los alguaciles fueron a los principales sacerdotes y fariseos, y ellos les dijeron: ¿Por qué no lo trajisteis? 46 Los alguaciles respondieron: ¡Nunca un hombre habló así! 47 Entonces los fariseos les dijeron: ¿También vosotros habéis sido engañados? 48 ¿Acaso alguno de los magistrados o de los fariseos ha creído en él? 49 Pero esta gente que no conoce la ley es maldita. 50 Nicodemo (el que antes había ido a Él, y era uno de ellos), les dice: 51 ¿Juzga acaso nuestra ley al hombre sin que primero lo oiga y conozca qué hizo? 52 Respondieron y le dijeron: ¿Acaso eres tú también de Galilea? Escudriña y verás que de Galilea no surge ningún profeta.

1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him. 2 Now the Jews' feast of tabernacles was at hand. 3 His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest. 4 For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world. 5 For neither did his brethren believe in him. 6 Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready. 7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil. 8 Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come. 9 When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee. 10 But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret. 11 Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he? 12 And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people. 13 Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews. 14 Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught. 15 And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned? 16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. 17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. 18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him. 19 Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me? 20 The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee? 21 Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel. 22 Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man. 23 If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day? 24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment. 25 Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill? 26 But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ? 27 Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is. 28 Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not. 29 But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me. 30 Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come. 31 And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done? 32 The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him. 33 Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me. 34 Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come. 35 Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles? 36 What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come? 37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. 39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) 40 Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet. 41 Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee? 42 Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was? 43 So there was a division among the people because of him. 44 And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him. 45 Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him? 46 The officers answered, Never man spake like this man. 47 Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived? 48 Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him? 49 But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed. 50 Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,) 51 Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth? 52 They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet. 53 And every man went unto his own house.
