1Pero los hijos de Israel fueron infieles en cuanto a lo del anatema, porque Acán ben Carmi, hijo de Zabdi, hijo de Zera, de la tribu de Judá, se apropió del anatema, por lo cual la ira de YHVH se encendió contra los hijos de Israel.2Y Josué había enviado hombres desde Jericó hasta Hai, que estaba junto a Bet-Avén, al oriente de Bet-’El, y les había dicho: Subid y espiad la tierra. Y ellos subieron y espiaron a Hai.3Y regresaron a Josué, y le dijeron: Que no suba todo el pueblo, sino que suban como dos o tres mil hombres, y tomen a Hai. No hagas que todo el pueblo se fatigue marchando allá, porque ellos son pocos.4De manera que del pueblo subieron allí como tres mil hombres, pero huyeron ante los hombres de Hai.5Y los hombres de Hai hirieron a unos treinta y seis hombres, y los persiguieron desde la puerta hasta Sebarim, y los derrotaron en la bajada; y el corazón del pueblo se derritió, y se hizo como agua.6Entonces Josué rasgó sus vestidos, y cayó sobre su rostro en tierra ante el Arca de YHVH hasta la tarde, él y los ancianos de Israel, y se echaron polvo sobre sus cabezas.7Y dijo Josué: ¡Ah, Adonay YHVH! ¿Por qué hiciste pasar el Jordán a este pueblo para entregarnos en mano del amorreo para destruirnos? ¡Ojalá nos hubiéramos propuesto habitar al otro lado del Jordán!8¡Ah, Adonay! ¿Qué puedo decir después que Israel ha vuelto la espalda ante sus enemigos?9Pues cuando el cananeo y todos los habitantes de esta tierra lo oigan, nos rodearán y cortarán nuestro nombre de la tierra, y ¿qué harás Tú por tu gran Nombre?10Pero YHVH dijo a Josué: ¡Levántate! ¿Por qué estás así postrado sobre tu rostro?11Israel ha pecado, y también ha traspasado mi pacto que Yo les ordené. Sí, han tomado del anatema, y también han robado, y también han mentido, y también lo han puesto entre sus enseres.12Por eso los hijos de Israel no pueden estar erguidos ante sus enemigos, sino que vuelven la espalda ante sus enemigos, por cuanto llegaron a ser malditos. Si no destruís a los malditos de entre vosotros, no continuaré estando con vosotros.13Levántate, santifica al pueblo y diles: Santificaos para mañana, porque así dice YHVH el Dios de Israel: ¡Hay un anatema en medio de ti, oh Israel! ¡No podrás hacer frente a tus enemigos hasta que quites de tu seno a los malditos!14Os acercaréis pues mañana por la mañana con arreglo a vuestras tribus, y la tribu que designe YHVH se acercará por familias, y la familia que designe YHVH se acercará por casas, y la casa que designe YHVH se acercará hombre por hombre.15Y acontecerá que el que sea designado con motivo del anatema, será quemado en la hoguera, él y todo lo que posee, por cuanto ha traspasado el pacto de YHVH al cometer una vileza en Israel.16Entonces Josué se levantó muy de mañana, e hizo acercar a Israel por sus tribus: Y fue señalada la tribu de Judá.17E hizo acercar a la tribu de Judá, y fue señalada la familia de los de Zera. E hizo que se acercara la familia de los de Zera, por varones, y fue señalado Zabdi.18E hizo que los varones de su casa se acercaran, y fue señalado Acán ben Carmi, hijo de Zabdi, hijo de Zera, de la tribu de Judá.19Entonces Josué dijo a Acán: Hijo mío, da gloria ahora a YHVH Dios de Israel, y haz confesión, y declárame lo que has hecho sin ocultarme nada.20Y respondió Acán a Josué, y dijo: En verdad he pecado contra YHVH Dios de Israel, y esto es lo que he hecho:21Entre el botín vi un hermoso manto de Sinar, y doscientos siclos de plata y una barra de oro de cincuenta siclos de peso; los codicié y los tomé, y he aquí están escondidos bajo tierra dentro de mi tienda, y la plata debajo de ello.22Josué envió emisarios, que fueron corriendo a la tienda y, en efecto, el manto estaba oculto en su tienda, y la plata debajo.23Los recogieron pues de dentro de la tienda y los llevaron a Josué y a todos los hijos de Israel, y los depositaron ante YHVH.24Y Josué, y todo Israel con él, tomó a Acán ben Zera, la plata, el manto y la barra de oro, y a sus hijos, y a sus hijas, y a sus bueyes, y a sus asnos, y a sus ovejas, y a su tienda y a todo cuanto poseía, y los llevaron al valle de Acor.25Y dijo Josué: ¡Cuánto nos has perturbado! ¡Pertúrbete hoy YHVH! Y todos los israelitas los apedrearon, y los quemaron en la hoguera después de haberlos lapidado con piedras.26Y levantaron sobre él un gran montón de piedras, hasta hoy. Y YHVH se tornó del ardor de su ira. Por eso aquel lugar se llama hasta hoy, valle de Acor.

1But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against the children of Israel.2And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Bethaven, on the east side of Bethel, and spake unto them, saying, Go up and view the country. And the men went up and viewed Ai.3And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him, Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai; and make not all the people to labour thither; for they are but few.4So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men: and they fled before the men of Ai.5And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men: for they chased them from before the gate even unto Shebarim, and smote them in the going down: wherefore the hearts of the people melted, and became as water.6And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the LORD until the eventide, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust upon their heads.7And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord GOD, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan!8O Lord, what shall I say, when Israel turneth their backs before their enemies!9For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear of it , and shall environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do unto thy great name?10And the LORD said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face?11Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff.12Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.13Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow: for thus saith the LORD God of Israel, There is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you.14In the morning therefore ye shall be brought according to your tribes: and it shall be, that the tribe which the LORD taketh shall come according to the families thereof ; and the family which the LORD shall take shall come by households; and the household which the LORD shall take shall come man by man.15And it shall be, that he that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath: because he hath transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.16So Joshua rose up early in the morning, and brought Israel by their tribes; and the tribe of Judah was taken:17And he brought the family of Judah; and he took the family of the Zarhites: and he brought the family of the Zarhites man by man; and Zabdi was taken:18And he brought his household man by man; and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.19And Joshua said unto Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to the LORD God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide it not from me.20And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I have sinned against the LORD God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done:21When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.22So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent; and, behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver under it.23And they took them out of the midst of the tent, and brought them unto Joshua, and unto all the children of Israel, and laid them out before the LORD.24And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them unto the valley of Achor.25And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? the LORD shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones.26And they raised over him a great heap of stones unto this day. So the LORD turned from the fierceness of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was called, The valley of Achor, unto this day.
