El pariente redentor

1 Entonces le dijo su suegra Noemí: Hija mía, ¿no he de buscar reposo para ti, donde te vaya bien? 2 Ahora pues, aquel Booz, con cuyas criadas tú has estado, ¿no es pariente nuestro? He aquí que avienta la era de la cebada esta noche. 3 Lávate pues, y úngete, y ponte tus mejores vestidos, y baja a la era; pero no te des a conocer al hombre hasta que haya terminado de comer y beber. 4 Y sucederá que cuando se acueste, te fijarás bien en el sitio donde se acuesta, e irás y alzarás la cubierta de sus pies, y te acostarás allí, para que él te diga lo que has de hacer. 5 Y le respondió: Todo cuanto me dices, yo lo haré. 6 Bajó pues a la era, e hizo todo lo que su suegra le había mandado. 7 Y cuando Booz hubo comido y bebido, y estuvo alegre su corazón, fue a acostarse a un lado del montón. Entonces ella se acercó calladamente, y alzando la cubierta de sus pies, se acostó allí. 8 Y sucedió que a la media noche aquel varón se estremeció, y palpó, ¡y he aquí a una mujer acostada a sus pies! 9 Entonces él dijo: ¿Quién eres tú? Y ella respondió: Soy Rut, tu sierva; extiende el borde de tu manto sobre tu sierva, porque redentor mío eres. 10 Y él dijo: ¡Bendita seas de YHVH, hija mía! Has hecho que tu postrera bondad sea mayor que la primera, no yendo tras los jóvenes, sean pobres o ricos. 11 Ahora pues, hija mía, no temas; que yo haré por ti todo cuanto me dices, porque todos los responsables de mi pueblo saben que eres mujer de acendrada virtud. 12 Pero ahora, aunque es cierto que soy redentor tuyo, con todo, hay un pariente más cercano que yo. 13 Pasa esta noche, y cuando sea de día, si él quiere redimirte, bien, que te redima; pero si él no quiere redimirte, ¡vive YHVH, yo te redimiré! Acuéstate hasta la mañana. 14 Ella pues se acostó a sus pies hasta por la mañana: luego se levantó antes que los hombres pudieran reconocerse unos a otros, porque él había dicho: No se sepa que vino mujer a la era. 15 Después le dijo: Trae acá el manto que llevas sobre ti, y sujétalo. Y ella lo sujetó, en tanto que él medía seis medidas de cebada, y se las puso encima, y ella se fue a la ciudad. 16 Cuando volvió a su suegra, ésta preguntó: ¿Qué sucedió hija mía? Y ella le contó todo lo que aquel varón había hecho por ella; 17 y añadió: Estas seis efas de cebada me ha dado, pues dijo: No regreses a tu suegra con las manos vacías. 18 Y ésta dijo: Descansa, hija mía, hasta que sepas como termina este asunto, porque el hombre no descansará hasta que concluya hoy mismo el asunto.

Ruth and Boaz at the Threshing Floor

1 Then Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, “My daughter, should I not seek rest for you, that it may be well with you? (Rt 1:9) 2 Is not Boaz our relative, with whose young women you were? See, he is winnowing barley tonight at the threshing floor. (Rt 2:1; Rt 2:8) 3 Wash therefore and anoint yourself, and put on your cloak and go down to the threshing floor, but do not make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking. (2 S 12:20; 2 S 14:2) 4 But when he lies down, observe the place where he lies. Then go and uncover his feet and lie down, and he will tell you what to do.” 5 And she replied, “All that you say I will do.” 6 So she went down to the threshing floor and did just as her mother-in-law had commanded her. 7 And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of grain. Then she came softly and uncovered his feet and lay down. (Jue 19:6) 8 At midnight the man was startled and turned over, and behold, a woman lay at his feet! 9 He said, “Who are you?” And she answered, “I am Ruth, your servant. Spread your wings^[1] over your servant, for you are a redeemer.” (Dt 22:30; Rt 2:20; Ez 16:8) 10 And he said, “May you be blessed by the Lord, my daughter. You have made this last kindness greater than the first in that you have not gone after young men, whether poor or rich. (Rt 1:8; Rt 2:20) 11 And now, my daughter, do not fear. I will do for you all that you ask, for all my fellow townsmen know that you are a worthy woman. (Pr 12:4; Pr 31:10) 12 And now it is true that I am a redeemer. Yet there is a redeemer nearer than I. (Rt 4:1) 13 Remain tonight, and in the morning, if he will redeem you, good; let him do it. But if he is not willing to redeem you, then, as the Lord lives, I will redeem you. 14 So she lay at his feet until the morning, but arose before one could recognize another. And he said, “Let it not be known that the woman came to the threshing floor.” 15 And he said, “Bring the garment you are wearing and hold it out.” So she held it, and he measured out six measures of barley and put it on her. Then she went into the city. 16 And when she came to her mother-in-law, she said, “How did you fare, my daughter?” Then she told her all that the man had done for her, 17 saying, “These six measures of barley he gave to me, for he said to me, ‘You must not go back empty-handed to your mother-in-law.’” 18 She replied, “Wait, my daughter, until you learn how the matter turns out, for the man will not rest but will settle the matter today.”
