Oración de Jonás

1 Entonces oró Jonás a YHVH su Dios desde el vientre del pez, 

2 y dijo: En mi angustia invoqué a YHVH, Y Él me respondió; Del vientre del Seol pedí socorro, Y Tú escuchaste mi voz. 

3 Me arrojaste a lo profundo, En medio de los mares, y me rodeó la corriente: Todas tus ondas y tus olas pasaron sobre mí. 

4 Me dije: Desechado soy de tu presencia, ¿Cómo podré volver a contemplar tu santa Casa? 

5 Las aguas me rodearon hasta el alma; Me rodeó el abismo. Las algas se enredaron en mi cabeza. 

6 Descendí a los cimientos de los montes, Y cuando la tierra echaba sus cerrojos Para siempre sobre mí, Tú, oh YHVH, Dios mío, Sacaste de la fosa mi vida, 

7 Cuando mi alma desfallecía en mí, Me acordé de YHVH, Y mi oración llegó hasta ti en tu santa Casa. 

8 Los que siguen la vanidad de sus ídolos se alejan de su misericordia; 

9 Pero yo te ofreceré sacrificio de alabanza, Y cumpliré lo que prometí. ¡La salvación es de YHVH! 

10 Entonces YHVH dio orden al pez, Y éste vomitó a Jonás en tierra.

Jonah’s Prayer

1 Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the belly of the fish, 

2 saying, “I called out to the Lord, out of my distress, and he answered me; out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and you heard my voice. (Sal 3:4; Sal 118:5; Sal 120:1; Lm 3:55; Lm 3:56) 

3 For you cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the flood surrounded me; all your waves and your billows passed over me. (Sal 42:7; Sal 88:6) 

4 Then I said, ‘I am driven away from your sight; yet I shall again look upon your holy temple.’ (1 R 8:35; 1 R 8:38; Sal 31:22) 

5 The waters closed in over me to take my life; the deep surrounded me; weeds were wrapped about my head (Sal 69:1; Lm 3:54) 

6 at the roots of the mountains. I went down to the land whose bars closed upon me forever; yet you brought up my life from the pit, O Lord my God. 

7 When my life was fainting away, I remembered the Lord, and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple. (2 Cr 30:27) 

8 Those who pay regard to vain idols forsake their hope of steadfast love. (2 R 17:15; Sal 31:6; Jer 2:5; Jer 2:13) 

9 But I with the voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you; what I have vowed I will pay. Salvation belongs to the Lord!” (Sal 3:8; Sal 50:14; Os 14:2; Heb 13:15) 

10 And the Lord spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah out upon the dry land.
