Consulta al profeta

1 Todos los capitanes de la gente de guerra, junto a Johanán ben Carea, Jezanías ben Osaías, y todo el pueblo, desde el menor hasta el mayor, se acercaron 2 y dijeron al profeta Jeremías: Acepta ahora nuestro ruego delante de ti, y ora por nosotros a YHVH tu Dios por todo este remanente, porque de muchos que éramos, hemos quedado pocos, así como nos están viendo tus ojos, 3 para que YHVH tu Dios nos enseñe el camino por donde debemos andar, y lo que hemos de hacer. 4 El profeta Jeremías les respondió: He oído. Mirad, voy a orar a YHVH vuestro Dios, como habéis dicho, y todo lo que YHVH os respondiere, os enseñaré. No os reservaré palabra. 5 Ellos dijeron a Jeremías: ¡Sea YHVH entre nosotros por testigo fiel y verdadero! Juramos obrar conforme a todo aquello para lo cual YHVH tu Dios te envíe a nosotros. 6 Sea bueno, sea malo, obedeceremos la voz de YHVH nuestro Dios, al cual te enviamos, para que nos vaya bien cuando obedezcamos la voz de YHVH nuestro Dios. 7 Al cabo de diez días Jeremías tuvo palabra de YHVH. 8 Y llamó a Johanán ben Carea y a todos los capitanes de la gente de guerra que estaban con él, y a todo el pueblo, desde el menor hasta el mayor, 9 y les dijo: Así dice YHVH Dios de Israel, al cual me enviasteis para presentar vuestros ruegos delante de Él: 10 Si permanecéis quietos en esta tierra, Yo os edificaré, y no os destruiré. Os plantaré, y no os arrancaré, porque me pesa todo el mal que os he hecho. 11 No temáis de la presencia del rey de Babilonia, del cual tenéis temor. No temáis de su presencia, dice YHVH, porque Yo estoy con vosotros para salvaros y libraros de su mano. 12 Yo tendré de vosotros misericordia, y él tendrá misericordia de vosotros, y os hará regresar a vuestra tierra. 13 Pero si decís: No habitaremos en esta tierra; desobedeciendo así la voz de YHVH vuestro Dios, 14 diciendo: No, sino que entraremos en la tierra de Egipto, donde no veremos guerra, ni oiremos sonido de trompeta, ni padeceremos hambre, y allá moraremos. 15 Entonces escuchad la palabra de YHVH, oh remanente de Judá: Así dice YHVH Sebaot, Dios de Israel: Si volvéis vuestros rostros para entrar en Egipto, y entráis para peregrinar allá, 16 sucederá que la espada que teméis, allí os alcanzará, en la tierra de Egipto, y el hambre de que tenéis temor, os perseguirá duramente en Egipto, y allí moriréis. 17 Todos los hombres que vuelvan sus rostros para entrar en Egipto para peregrinar allí, morirán a espada, de hambre y de pestilencia. Ninguno de ellos quedará vivo, ni escapará del mal que Yo traeré sobre ellos. 18 Porque así dice YHVH Sebaot, Dios de Israel: Como mi ira y mi indignación se derramó sobre los moradores de Jerusalem, así se derramará mi ira sobre vosotros si vais a Egipto. Y seréis objeto de execración y espanto, de maldición y afrenta, y no veréis más este lugar. 19 Oh remanente de Judá: YHVH ha hablado sobre vosotros: ¡No entréis en Egipto! Sabed ciertamente que en este día os lo he advertido. 20 ¿Por qué os engañáis a vosotros mismos? Porque vosotros me enviasteis a YHVH vuestro Dios, diciendo: Ora por nosotros a YHVH nuestro Dios, y haznos saber todas las cosas que YHVH nuestro Dios diga, y lo haremos. 21 Y os lo he declarado hoy, y no habéis obedecido la voz de YHVH vuestro Dios, ni todas las cosas por las cuales me envió a vosotros. 22 Ahora pues, sabed por cierto que a espada, de hambre y de pestilencia moriréis en el lugar donde deseasteis entrar para habitar allí.

6 Whether it is good or bad, we will obey the voice of the Lord our God to whom we are sending you, that it may be well with us when we obey the voice of the Lord our God.” (Jer 7:23) 7 At the end of ten days the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah. 12 I will grant you mercy, that he may have mercy on you and let you remain in your own land. 16 then the sword that you fear shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine of which you are afraid shall follow close after you to Egypt, and there you shall die. (Jer 42:22; Jer 44:12; Ez 11:8) 17 All the men who set their faces to go to Egypt to live there shall die by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence. They shall have no remnant or survivor from the disaster that I will bring upon them. (Lm 2:22) 18 “For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: As my anger and my wrath were poured out on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so my wrath will be poured out on you when you go to Egypt. You shall become an execration, a horror, a curse, and a taunt. You shall see this place no more.
