1Me dijo YHVH: Tómate una tabla grande y escribe en ella con letra legible: Para Maher-salal-hasbaz.2Y Yo me tomaré por testigos fieles, para atestiguar la profecía, al sacerdote Urías y a Zacarías ben Baraquías.3Me llegué entonces a la profetisa, la cual concibió y dio a luz un hijo. Me dijo YHVH: Ponle por nombre Maher-salal-hasbaz.4Porque antes que el niño aprenda a decir papá y mamá, la riqueza de Damasco y los despojos de Samaria serán llevados al rey de Asiria.5Otra vez YHVH volvió a hablarme, diciendo:6Por cuanto este pueblo desprecia las mansas aguas de Siloé, Y desfallece ante Rezín y el hijo de Remalías,7Sabed que Adonay los sumergirá en las aguas del Éufrates, Torrenciales e impetuosas (el rey de Asiria con todo su ejército), Que rebasan los cauces y desbordan las riberas.8E inundarán Judá, y crecerán y llegarán hasta el cuello, Y se desplegarán sus alas hasta cubrir la anchura de tu tierra, ¡Oh Emmanuel!9Oh pueblos, ¡ensañaos y sed derrotados! Prestad oído, lejanías todas de la tierra: ¡Armaos, y sed derrotados! ¡Armaos, y sed derrotados!10Trazad un plan, y fracasará; Proferid amenazas, y no se cumplirán, Porque tenemos a Emmanuel.11Así me habló YHVH, y su mano era fuerte sobre mí, Y me amonestó para que no anduviera en el camino de este pueblo:12No llaméis aliados a todo lo que este pueblo llama aliados, Ni participéis en su temor ni os amedrentéis.13¡A YHVH Sebaot santificad! ¡Sea Él vuestro temor y sea Él vuestro pavor!14Él os será por santuario, Pero piedra de tropiezo y roca de caída Para ambas casas de Israel; Red y trampa para los habitantes de Jerusalem.15Muchos tropezarán entre ellos, Y caerán y serán quebrantados; Se enredarán y quedarán apresados.16Ata el rollo del testimonio, Y sella la Ley entre mis discípulos.17Esperaré a YHVH, que ha escondido su rostro de la casa de Jacob; Sí, a Él esperaré.18He aquí, yo y los hijos que YHVH me dio, Como señales y presagios para Israel, De parte de YHVH Sebaot que habita en el Monte Sión.19Y cuando os digan: Consultad a los que evocan a los muertos Y a los adivinos que musitan y susurran, responded: ¿No consultará el pueblo a su Dios? ¿Por qué habrán de ir los vivos a consultar a los muertos?20¡A la Ley y al testimonio! Si no dicen conforme a esta palabra, Es porque no les ha amanecido.21Pasarán por la tierra fatigados y hambrientos, Y sucederá que teniendo hambre, Se indignarán y maldecirán a su rey y a su Dios. Alzarán la vista22Y mirarán la tierra, Y he allí tribulación y tinieblas, angustia y oscuridad, Y serán sumidos en la oscuridad.
1Then the Lord said to me, “Take a large tablet and write on it in common characters,[1] ‘Belonging to Maher-shalal-hash-baz.’[2] (Is 30:8)2And I will get reliable witnesses, Uriah the priest and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah, to attest for me.” (2 R 16:10; 2 R 16:15; Is 43:10)3And I went to the prophetess, and she conceived and bore a son. Then the Lord said to me, “Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz; (Os 1:4)4for before the boy knows how to cry ‘My father’ or ‘My mother,’ the wealth of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria will be carried away before the king of Assyria.” (Is 7:8; Is 7:16)5The Lord spoke to me again:6“Because this people has refused the waters of Shiloah that flow gently, and rejoice over Rezin and the son of Remaliah, (Neh 3:15; Is 7:1; Is 7:4; Jn 9:7; Jn 9:11)7therefore, behold, the Lord is bringing up against them the waters of the River,[3] mighty and many, the king of Assyria and all his glory. And it will rise over all its channels and go over all its banks, (Is 7:20; Is 17:12; Jer 46:8)8and it will sweep on into Judah, it will overflow and pass on, reaching even to the neck, and its outspread wings will fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.” (Is 7:14; Is 30:28; Is 36:1)9Be broken,[4] you peoples, and be shattered;[5] give ear, all you far countries; strap on your armor and be shattered; strap on your armor and be shattered. (Dn 2:34)10Take counsel together, but it will come to nothing; speak a word, but it will not stand, for God is with us.[6] (Is 7:7; Is 8:8; Ro 8:31)
Fear God, Wait for the Lord
11For the Lord spoke thus to me with his strong hand upon me, and warned me not to walk in the way of this people, saying: (Ez 2:8)12“Do not call conspiracy all that this people calls conspiracy, and do not fear what they fear, nor be in dread. (Is 7:2; 1 P 3:14)13But the Lord of hosts, him you shall honor as holy. Let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. (Nm 20:12)14And he will become a sanctuary and a stone of offense and a rock of stumbling to both houses of Israel, a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. (Is 28:16; Ez 11:16; Ro 9:33; 1 P 2:8)15And many shall stumble on it. They shall fall and be broken; they shall be snared and taken.” (Is 28:13; Mt 21:44; Lc 20:18)16Bind up the testimony; seal the teaching[7] among my disciples. (Is 8:1; Dn 12:4)17I will wait for the Lord, who is hiding his face from the house of Jacob, and I will hope in him. (Dt 31:17; Sal 27:14; Sal 33:20; Is 1:15; Is 54:8; Hab 2:3)18Behold, I and the children whom the Lord has given me are signs and portents in Israel from the Lord of hosts, who dwells on Mount Zion. (Is 7:3; Heb 2:13)19And when they say to you, “Inquire of the mediums and the necromancers who chirp and mutter,” should not a people inquire of their God? Should they inquire of the dead on behalf of the living? (Lv 19:31; 1 S 28:11; 2 R 21:6; 2 R 23:24; 2 Cr 33:6; Sal 106:28; Is 19:3)20To the teaching and to the testimony! If they will not speak according to this word, it is because they have no dawn. (Is 60:1; Lc 16:29)21They will pass through the land,[8] greatly distressed and hungry. And when they are hungry, they will be enraged and will speak contemptuously against[9] their king and their God, and turn their faces upward.22And they will look to the earth, but behold, distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish. And they will be thrust into thick darkness. (Is 5:30; Nah 1:8)
