1Después de estas cosas vi a otro ángel descender del cielo, teniendo gran autoridad, y la tierra fue iluminada con su resplandor.2Y clamó con voz potente, diciendo: ¡Cayó, cayó la gran Babilonia, y se convirtió en morada de demonios y guarida de todo espíritu inmundo y encierro de toda ave inmunda y aborrecible!3Porque todas las naciones han bebido del vino ponzoñoso de su fornicación, y los reyes de la tierra fornicaron con ella, y los mercaderes de la tierra se enriquecieron con el poder de su lujuria.4Y oí otra voz procedente del cielo, que decía: ¡Salid de ella pueblo mío, para que no seáis partícipes de sus pecados ni recibáis parte de sus plagas!5Porque sus pecados han sido apilados hasta el cielo, y Dios se ha acordado de sus maldades.6¡Pagadle como ella pagó, y dadle el doble según sus obras! ¡Vertedle el doble en la copa que ella vertió!7En la medida en que ella se glorificó y vivió en lujuria, así tanto dadle de tormento y llanto; pues dice en su corazón: Estoy sentada como reina, y no soy viuda, y jamás veré duelo.8Por eso, en un solo día vendrán sus plagas: muerte, duelo y hambre; y será consumida con fuego, porque poderoso es el Señor Dios que la juzgó.9Y los reyes de la tierra que fornicaron y vivieron en lujuria con ella, llorarán y se lamentarán por ella cuando vean la humareda de su incendio,10estando en pie de lejos, a causa del temor de su tormento, dirán: ¡Ay, ay, la gran ciudad, Babilonia, ciudad fuerte, en una hora vino tu juicio!11Los mercaderes de la tierra lloran y se lamentan por ella, porque nadie comprará ya su cargamento:12cargamento de oro, y de plata, y de piedras preciosas, y de perlas, y de lino fino, y de púrpura, y de seda, y de escarlata, y de toda madera olorosa, y todo objeto de marfil, y todo objeto de madera valiosa, y de bronce, y de hierro y de mármol,13y de canela, y de especia, e incienso, y mirra, y olíbano, y de vino y aceite, y de flor de harina y trigo, y de bestias de carga, y de ovejas, y de caballos, y de carros, y de esclavos, y de almas de hombres.14La fruta de la codicia de tu alma se apartó de ti, y todas las cosas exquisitas y espléndidas se te desvanecieron, y nunca jamás las hallarán.15Los mercaderes de estas cosas, que se enriquecieron a costa de ella, se detendrán a lo lejos por el temor de su tormento, llorando y lamentando,16diciendo: ¡Ay, ay, de la gran ciudad, que estuvo vestida de lino fino, y de púrpura, y de escarlata, y adornada con oro, y piedras preciosas, y perlas,17porque en una hora fue arrasada tanta riqueza! Y todo timonel, y todo el que navega de sitio en sitio, y los marineros, y cuantos trabajan en el mar, se pararon a lo lejos,18y viendo la humareda de su incendio, gritaban diciendo: ¿Cuál es semejante a la gran ciudad?19Y echaron polvo sobre sus cabezas, y gritaban llorando y lamentando, diciendo: ¡Ay, ay, de la gran ciudad! ¡Todos los que tenían naves en el mar se enriquecieron con su opulencia, y en una hora fue desolada!20¡Alégrate, oh cielo, sobre ella, y también vosotros santos, apóstoles y profetas, porque en ella Dios ha juzgado vuestra causa!21Y un ángel fuerte levantó una piedra, como una gran piedra de molino, y la echó al mar, diciendo: ¡Así, con ímpetu, será arrojada Babilonia, la ciudad grande! ¡Que nunca jamás sea hallada!22¡Que nunca jamás sea oído en ti tañido de arpistas y de músicos, de flautistas y de trompetistas! ¡Que nunca jamás sea hallado en ti artífice de oficio alguno! ¡Que nunca jamás sea oído en ti sonido de molino!23¡Que nunca jamás alumbre en ti la luz de la antorcha! ¡Que nunca jamás sea oída en ti la voz del esposo y de la esposa! Porque tus mercaderes fueron los magnates de la tierra, Y con tus hechicerías fueron engañadas todas las naciones.24Y en ella fue hallada la sangre de los profetas y de los santos, y de todos los que han sido asesinados en la tierra.
1After this I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was made bright with his glory. (Ez 43:2; Ap 17:1; Ap 17:7)2And he called out with a mighty voice, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has become a dwelling place for demons, a haunt for every unclean spirit, a haunt for every unclean bird, a haunt for every unclean and detestable beast. (Is 13:21; Is 14:23; Is 34:11; Is 34:14; Jer 50:39; Jer 51:37; Sof 2:14; Ap 14:8; Ap 16:13)3For all nations have drunk[1] the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality, and the kings of the earth have committed immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have grown rich from the power of her luxurious living.” (Ez 27:33; Ap 14:8; Ap 17:2; Ap 18:9; Ap 18:11; Ap 18:15)4Then I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you take part in her sins, lest you share in her plagues; (Is 48:20; 2 Co 6:17)5for her sins are heaped high as heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. (Gn 18:20; Esd 9:6; Jer 51:9; Jon 1:2; Ap 16:19)6Pay her back as she herself has paid back others, and repay her double for her deeds; mix a double portion for her in the cup she mixed. (Sal 137:8; Jer 16:18; Jer 50:15; Jer 50:29; Jer 51:24; Jer 51:49; Ap 14:10; Ap 16:19; Ap 17:4)7As she glorified herself and lived in luxury, so give her a like measure of torment and mourning, since in her heart she says, ‘I sit as a queen, I am no widow, and mourning I shall never see.’ (Is 47:7; Ez 28:2; Sof 2:15; Ap 3:17)8For this reason her plagues will come in a single day, death and mourning and famine, and she will be burned up with fire; for mighty is the Lord God who has judged her.” (Is 47:9; Jer 50:34; Ap 17:16; Ap 18:10)9And the kings of the earth, who committed sexual immorality and lived in luxury with her, will weep and wail over her when they see the smoke of her burning. (Jer 50:46; Ez 26:16; Ap 17:2; Ap 18:3; Ap 18:18; Ap 19:3)10They will stand far off, in fear of her torment, and say, “Alas! Alas! You great city, you mighty city, Babylon! For in a single hour your judgment has come.” (Ap 14:8; Ap 18:8; Ap 18:15; Ap 18:17; Ap 18:19)11And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn for her, since no one buys their cargo anymore, (Ez 27:36; Ap 18:3; Ap 18:15)12cargo of gold, silver, jewels, pearls, fine linen, purple cloth, silk, scarlet cloth, all kinds of scented wood, all kinds of articles of ivory, all kinds of articles of costly wood, bronze, iron and marble,13cinnamon, spice, incense, myrrh, frankincense, wine, oil, fine flour, wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and slaves, that is, human souls.[2]14“The fruit for which your soul longed has gone from you, and all your delicacies and your splendors are lost to you, never to be found again!”15The merchants of these wares, who gained wealth from her, will stand far off, in fear of her torment, weeping and mourning aloud, (Ap 18:3; Ap 18:10; Ap 18:11)16“Alas, alas, for the great city that was clothed in fine linen, in purple and scarlet, adorned with gold, with jewels, and with pearls! (Ap 17:4)17For in a single hour all this wealth has been laid waste.” And all shipmasters and seafaring men, sailors and all whose trade is on the sea, stood far off (Ez 27:28; Ap 17:16; Ap 18:10; Ap 18:19)18and cried out as they saw the smoke of her burning, “What city was like the great city?” (Ez 27:30; Ez 27:32; Ap 13:4; Ap 18:9)19And they threw dust on their heads as they wept and mourned, crying out, “Alas, alas, for the great city where all who had ships at sea grew rich by her wealth! For in a single hour she has been laid waste. (Jos 7:6; Job 2:12; Ap 18:3; Ap 18:10; Ap 18:15; Ap 18:17)20Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets, for God has given judgment for you against her!” (Dt 32:43; Jer 51:48; Lc 11:49; Ap 12:12; Ap 19:2)21Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, “So will Babylon the great city be thrown down with violence, and will be found no more; (Jer 51:63; Ap 5:2; Ap 10:1; Ap 18:10)22and the sound of harpists and musicians, of flute players and trumpeters, will be heard in you no more, and a craftsman of any craft will be found in you no more, and the sound of the mill will be heard in you no more, (Ec 12:4; Is 14:11; Is 24:8; Jer 25:10; Ez 26:13)23and the light of a lamp will shine in you no more, and the voice of bridegroom and bride will be heard in you no more, for your merchants were the great ones of the earth, and all nations were deceived by your sorcery. (Is 23:8; Jer 7:34; Jer 16:9; Jer 33:11; Nah 3:4)24And in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints, and of all who have been slain on earth.” (Jer 51:49; Mt 23:35; Ap 17:6)
