1Y cuando el hijo de Saúl supo que Abner había muerto en Hebrón, sus manos se debilitaron y todo Israel fue turbado.2Y el hijo de Saúl tenía dos hombres que eran jefes de bandas: uno se llamaba Baana, y el otro se llamaba Recab, hijos de Rimón beerotita, de los hijos de Benjamín (porque también Beerot es considerada de Benjamín,3pues los beerotitas habían huido a Gitaim y moran allí como forasteros hasta hoy).4Y Jonatán ben Saúl, tuvo un hijo lisiado de los pies. Este tenía cinco años cuando llegaron las noticias de Jezreel acerca de Saúl y Jonatán, y su nodriza lo tomó y huyó, pero mientras huía apresuradamente, él cayó y quedó cojo. Su nombre era Mefi-boset.5Los hijos de Rimón beerotita, Recab y Baana, fueron y entraron al mediodía en casa de Is-boset, mientras estaba durmiendo la siesta.6Y entrando hasta el interior de la casa como para llevar trigo, lo hirieron por la quinta costilla, y luego Recab y su hermano Baana huyeron.7Cuando entraron en la casa, estaba él acostado sobre su lecho en la alcoba y lo hirieron y mataron, y luego lo decapitaron. Entonces tomaron su cabeza y marcharon por el camino del Arabá toda la noche.8Y llevaron a David la cabeza de Is-boset, a Hebrón, y dijeron al rey: ¡He aquí la cabeza de Is-boset, hijo de tu enemigo Saúl, que atentaba contra tu vida! ¡YHVH ha dado hoy a mi señor el rey venganza de Saúl y de su simiente!9Pero David respondió a Recab y a su hermano Baana, hijos de Rimón beerotita, diciendo: ¡Vive YHVH que ha redimido mi alma de toda adversidad!10Si a quien me informó diciendo: ¡He aquí Saúl ha muerto!, lo hice prender y matar en Siclag en pago por la noticia, aunque se creía portador de buenas nuevas,11¡cuánto más a vosotros, hombres perversos que asesinasteis a un hombre justo en su propio lecho y en su misma casa! ¿No he de demandar ahora su sangre de vuestras manos, y quitaros de la tierra?12Y David ordenó a los jóvenes, y ellos los mataron, y les cortaron las manos y los pies y los colgaron sobre el estanque en Hebrón. Luego tomaron la cabeza de Is-boset y la enterraron en el sepulcro de Abner, en Hebrón.
1When Ish-bosheth, Saul’s son, heard that Abner had died at Hebron, his courage failed, and all Israel was dismayed. He was five years old when the news about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel, and his nurse took him up and fled, and as she fled in her haste, he fell and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth. They took his head and went by the way of the Arabah all night, (Dt 1:1; 2 S 2:29)8and brought the head of Ish-bosheth to David at Hebron. And they said to the king, “Here is the head of Ish-bosheth, the son of Saul, your enemy, who sought your life. The Lord has avenged my lord the king this day on Saul and on his offspring.” (1 S 19:10; 1 S 23:15)9But David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, “As the Lord lives, who has redeemed my life out of every adversity, (Rt 3:13; 1 R 1:29)10when one told me, ‘Behold, Saul is dead,’ and thought he was bringing good news, I seized him and killed him at Ziklag, which was the reward I gave him for his news. (2 S 1:4; 2 S 1:15)11How much more, when wicked men have killed a righteous man in his own house on his bed, shall I not now require his blood at your hand and destroy you from the earth?” (Gn 9:5)12And David commanded his young men, and they killed them and cut off their hands and feet and hanged them beside the pool at Hebron. But they took the head of Ish-bosheth and buried it in the tomb of Abner at Hebron. (2 S 3:32)
