1Pero David dijo en su corazón: Algún día voy a perecer por la mano de Saúl. Nada me será mejor que escapar de inmediato a tierra de los filisteos; así Saúl desistirá de buscarme por todo el territorio de Israel, y escaparé de su mano.2Y David se levantó, y con los seiscientos hombres que tenía consigo, se pasó a Aquís hijo de Maoc, rey de Gat.3Y él y sus hombres habitaron con Aquís en Gat, cada uno con su familia. David con sus dos mujeres, Ahinoam, la jezreelita y Abigail, la que fue mujer de Nabal, el del Carmelo.4Y le informaron a Saúl que David había huido a Gat, y no lo buscó más.5Y David dijo a Aquís: Si ahora he hallado gracia ante tus ojos, que me den un lugar en una de las poblaciones del campo, y habitaré allí. ¿Por qué ha de habitar tu siervo contigo en la ciudad real?6Y aquel día Aquís le entregó Siclag. Por eso Siclag ha sido de los reyes de Judá hasta este día.7Y el número de los días que David habitó en la tierra de los filisteos fue un año y cuatro meses.8Y David subía con sus hombres, y despojaban a los gesuritas, a los gercitas y a los amalecitas, pues estos habitaban desde hacía tiempo en aquella tierra, en dirección a Shur, hasta la tierra de Egipto.9Y David atacaba aquella tierra y no dejaba vivo hombre ni mujer; y se llevaba las ovejas, los bueyes, los asnos, los camellos y los bagajes. Luego se volvía y regresaba a Aquís.10Y Aquís preguntaba: ¿Dónde habéis tomado el despojo hoy? David respondía: Hacia el sur de Judá, o hacia el sur de los jerameelitas, o hacia el sur de los ceneos.11Y David no dejaba con vida hombre ni mujer que fuera a Gat, pues decía: No sea que ellos declaren contra nosotros, diciendo: ¡Esto hizo David! Y esa fue su costumbre todo el tiempo que habitó en tierra de los filisteos.12Aquís cobró confianza en David, pues se decía: Se ha hecho aborrecible a su pueblo, a Israel, por lo cual será siempre mi siervo.
1Then David said in his heart, “Now I shall perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will despair of seeking me any longer within the borders of Israel, and I shall escape out of his hand.”2So David arose and went over, he and the six hundred men who were with him, to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath. (1 S 21:10; 1 S 23:13; 2 S 15:18; 1 R 2:39)3And David lived with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, and David with his two wives, Ahinoam of Jezreel, and Abigail of Carmel, Nabal’s widow. (1 S 25:43)4And when it was told Saul that David had fled to Gath, he no longer sought him.5Then David said to Achish, “If I have found favor in your eyes, let a place be given me in one of the country towns, that I may dwell there. For why should your servant dwell in the royal city with you?” (Gn 33:15)6So that day Achish gave him Ziklag. Therefore Ziklag has belonged to the kings of Judah to this day. (Jos 15:31)7And the number of the days that David lived in the country of the Philistines was a year and four months. (1 S 29:3)8Now David and his men went up and made raids against the Geshurites, the Girzites, and the Amalekites, for these were the inhabitants of the land from of old, as far as Shur, to the land of Egypt. (Jos 13:2; Jos 16:10; Jue 1:29; 1 S 15:7)9And David would strike the land and would leave neither man nor woman alive, but would take away the sheep, the oxen, the donkeys, the camels, and the garments, and come back to Achish.10When Achish asked, “Where have you made a raid today?” David would say, “Against the Negeb of Judah,” or, “Against the Negeb of the Jerahmeelites,” or, “Against the Negeb of the Kenites.” (Jue 1:16; 1 S 23:27; 1 S 30:29)11And David would leave neither man nor woman alive to bring news to Gath, thinking, “lest they should tell about us and say, ‘So David has done.’” Such was his custom all the while he lived in the country of the Philistines.12And Achish trusted David, thinking, “He has made himself an utter stench to his people Israel; therefore he shall always be my servant.”
