1Acab informó a Jezabel todo lo que había hecho Elías, y cómo había matado a espada a todos los profetas.2Entonces Jezabel envió un mensajero a Elías, diciendo: ¡Así me hagan los dioses, y aun me añadan, si mañana a esta hora no he hecho tu vida como la vida de uno de ellos!3Y él tuvo temor, y se levantó y huyó para salvar su vida; y llegó a Beerseba (que es de Judá) y dejó allí a su siervo.4Y él se fue solo al desierto, donde anduvo todo un día; y llegó y se sentó debajo de un enebro, y ansiando morirse, dijo: ¡Basta ya, oh YHVH! ¡Quítame ahora la vida, porque no soy mejor que mis padres!5Y recostándose debajo del enebro, se quedó dormido; y he aquí el ángel lo tocó y le dijo: ¡Levántate y come!6Y miró atentamente, y he aquí a su cabecera una torta cocida sobre las ascuas, y un cántaro de agua; y comió y bebió, y volvió a recostarse.7Y el ángel de YHVH vino por segunda vez, lo tocó, y le dijo: ¡Levántate y come, porque largo camino te resta!8Y él se levantó, y comió y bebió; y con la fuerza de esa comida anduvo cuarenta días y cuarenta noches hasta Horeb, el monte de Dios.9Y allí entró en una cueva, donde pasó la noche. Y he aquí que vino a él la palabra de YHVH, diciendo: ¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?10Y él respondió: He sentido un vivo celo por YHVH ’Elohe Sebaot, porque los hijos de Israel han abandonado tu pacto, han derribado tus altares, y han matado a espada a tus profetas; y yo solo he quedado, y me buscan para quitarme la vida.11Y Él dijo: Sal afuera y ponte de pie en el monte, delante de YHVH. Y he aquí que YHVH pasaba: y un grande y poderoso viento destrozaba las montañas y rompía las peñas delante de YHVH, pero YHVH no estaba en el viento. Después del viento hubo un terremoto, pero YHVH no estaba en el terremoto.12Después del terremoto hubo un fuego, pero YHVH no estaba en el fuego. Y después del fuego hubo un susurro apacible y delicado.13Y sucedió que al oírlo, Elías cubrió su rostro con su manto, y salió y estuvo de pie a la entrada de la cueva. Y he aquí, vino a él una voz, y le preguntó: ¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?14Y él respondió: He sentido un vivo celo por YHVH ’Elohe Sebaot, porque los hijos de Israel han abandonado tu pacto, han derribado tus altares, y han matado a espada a tus profetas; y yo solo he quedado, y me buscan para quitarme la vida.15Y YHVH le dijo: Ve, regresa por tu camino por el desierto de Damasco, y cuando llegues, ungirás a Hazael por rey de Siria.16También ungirás como rey de Israel a Jehú ben Nimsi; y ungirás a Eliseo ben Safat, de Abel-mehola, como profeta en tu lugar.17Y sucederá que el que escape de la espada de Hazael, lo matará Jehú; y el que escape de la espada de Jehú, lo matará Eliseo.18Y Yo he hecho que queden en Israel siete mil, cuyas rodillas no se doblaron ante Baal y cuyas bocas no lo besaron.19Y partiendo de allí, halló a Eliseo ben Safat, que araba con doce yuntas delante de él, y él tenía la duodécima. Pasando Elías hacia él, echó su manto sobre él.20Entonces él dejó los bueyes, fue corriendo tras Elías y dijo: Besaré ahora a mi padre y a mi madre, y luego te seguiré. Él le dijo: Ve, vuélvete; pues, ¿qué te he hecho yo?21Y dejó de ir tras él. Luego tomó la yunta de bueyes y los sacrificó; y con el arado de los bueyes cocinó su carne y la dio a la gente para que comiera. Después se levantó y fue tras Elías, y lo servía.

(1 R 18:40)2Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So may the gods do to me and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by this time tomorrow.” (Rt 1:17; 1 R 20:10)3Then he was afraid, and he arose and ran for his life and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there. (Gn 21:31)4But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom tree. And behold, an angel touched him and said to him, “Arise and eat.”6And he looked, and behold, there was at his head a cake baked on hot stones and a jar of water. And he ate and drank and lay down again.7And the angel of the Lord came again a second time and touched him and said, “Arise and eat, for the journey is too great for you.”8And he arose and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb, the mount of God. The Lord Speaks to Elijah
9There he came to a cave and lodged in it. And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” (1 R 19:13)10He said, “I have been very jealous for the Lord, the God of hosts. For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away.” (Nm 25:11; Nm 25:13; 1 R 18:4; 1 R 18:22; 1 R 18:30; Ro 11:3)11And he said, “Go out and stand on the mount before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. (Ex 24:12; Ex 34:2; Ez 1:4; Ez 37:7)12And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.[1]13And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And when you arrive, you shall anoint Hazael to be king over Syria.16And Jehu the son of Nimshi you shall anoint to be king over Israel, and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah you shall anoint to be prophet in your place. (1 R 19:19; 2 R 2:9; 2 R 2:15; 2 R 9:1)17And the one who escapes from the sword of Hazael shall Jehu put to death, and the one who escapes from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha put to death. The Call of Elisha
19So he departed from there and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen in front of him, and he was with the twelfth. Elijah passed by him and cast his cloak upon him. (2 R 2:8)20And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said, “Let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you.” And he said to him, “Go back again, for what have I done to you?” (Mt 8:21; Lc 9:61)21And he returned from following him and took the yoke of oxen and sacrificed them and boiled their flesh with the yokes of the oxen and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he arose and went after Elijah and assisted him. (2 S 24:22)
