Desde Baasa hasta Acab

1 La palabra de YHVH fue dirigida a Jehú ben Hanani contra Baasa, diciendo: 2 Por cuanto Yo te levanté del polvo y te establecí como caudillo de mi pueblo Israel, pero tú has andado en el camino de Jeroboam, y has hecho pecar a mi pueblo Israel, provocándome a ira con sus pecados, 3 he aquí que Yo barreré por completo a la posteridad de Baasa y a la posteridad de su casa, y dejaré tu casa como la casa de Jeroboam ben Nabat. 4 Al que de Baasa muera en la ciudad, lo comerán los perros, y al que muera en el campo, lo comerán las aves de los cielos. 5 Los demás hechos de Baasa, las cosas que hizo y su poderío, ¿no están escritos en el rollo de las Crónicas de los reyes de Israel? 6 Y durmió Baasa con sus padres, y fue sepultado en Tirsa, y Ela su hijo reinó en su lugar. 7 También por medio del profeta Jehú ben Hanani llegó la palabra de YHVH contra Baasa y contra su casa, no sólo por toda la maldad que hizo ante los ojos de YHVH, provocándole con la obra de sus manos, siendo como los de la casa de Jeroboam, sino por haberla destruido. 8 El año vigésimo sexto de Asa, rey de Judá, comenzó a reinar Ela ben Baasa sobre Israel en Tirsa, y reinó dos años. 9 Y su servidor Zimri, capitán de la mitad de los carros de guerra, conspiró contra él en ocasión en que éste se hallaba en Tirsa bebiendo hasta embriagarse en casa de Arsa, mayordomo del palacio en Tirsa. 10 Así pues, irrumpió Zimri, y lo hirió y lo mató, en el año vigésimo séptimo de Asa, rey de Judá, y reinó en su lugar. 11 Y aconteció que al comenzar a reinar, en cuanto se sentó sobre el trono, mató a todos los de la casa de Baasa, sin dejar de ella un sólo meante a la pared, ni de sus parientes redentores, ni de sus amigos. 12 Así Zimri destruyó a todos los de la casa de Baasa, conforme a la palabra que YHVH había hablado contra Baasa por medio del profeta Jehú; 13 por todos los pecados de Baasa y los pecados de su hijo Ela, quienes pecaron e hicieron pecar a Israel, provocando a YHVH, Dios de Israel, con sus ídolos vanos. 14 Los demás hechos de Ela y todas las cosas que hizo, ¿no están escritos en el rollo de las Crónicas de los reyes de Israel? 15 En el año vigésimo séptimo de Asa, rey de Judá, Zimri reinó siete días en Tirsa, mientras el pueblo estaba acampado contra Gibetón, que era de los filisteos. 16 Pero cuando el pueblo acampado oyó decir: ¡Zimri ha conspirado y ha matado al rey!, todo Israel en aquel mismo día hizo rey sobre Israel a Omri, general del ejército, en medio del campamento. 17 Luego Omri subió desde Gibetón, y con él todo Israel, y sitiaron Tirsa. 18 Y sucedió que al ver que la ciudad había sido capturada, Zimri entró en la parte fortificada de la casa real y prendió fuego a la casa real con él adentro, y así murió, 19 a causa de sus pecados que había cometido haciendo lo malo ante los ojos de YHVH, y andando en el camino de Jeroboam, y en el pecado que cometió haciendo pecar a Israel. 20 Los demás hechos de Zimri y la conspiración que hizo, ¿no están escritos en el rollo de las Crónicas de los reyes de Israel? 21 Entonces el pueblo de Israel se dividió en dos facciones: La mitad del pueblo seguía a Tibni ben Ginat, para hacer que reinara, y la otra mitad seguía a Omri. 22 Pero el pueblo que seguía a Omri pudo más que el que seguía a Tibni ben Ginat. Tibni murió y Omri reinó. 23 En el año trigésimo primero de Asa, rey de Judá, Omri comenzó a reinar sobre Israel, y reinó doce años. Seis años reinó en Tirsa; 24 y compró a Semer el monte de Samaria por dos talentos de plata; edificó en el monte, y a la ciudad que edificó puso por nombre Samaria, según el nombre de Semer, dueño del monte. 25 Omri hizo lo malo ante los ojos de YHVH, y actuó peor que todos los que fueron antes que él, 26 pues anduvo en todo el camino de Jeroboam ben Nabat, y en los pecados con que hizo pecar a Israel, provocando a YHVH, Dios de Israel, con sus ídolos vanos. 27 Los demás hechos de Omri, las cosas que hizo y el poderío que logró, ¿no están escritos en el rollo de las Crónicas de los reyes de Israel? 28 Y Omri durmió con sus padres, y fue sepultado en Samaria, y en lugar suyo reinó Acab su hijo. 29 Acab ben Omri comenzó a reinar sobre Israel en el año trigésimo octavo de Asa, rey de Judá, y Acab ben Omri reinó sobre Israel en Samaria veintidós años. 30 Y Acab ben Omri hizo lo malo ante los ojos de YHVH, más que todos los que fueron antes de él; 31 porque le fue cosa ligera andar en los pecados de Jeroboam ben Nabat, sino que tomó por mujer a Jezabel hija de Etbaal, rey de los sidonios; y fue a servir a Baal, y se postraba ante él. 32 Y erigió un altar a Baal en el templo de Baal que había edificado en Samaria. 33 Acab hizo también un árbol ritual de Asera, provocando a ira a YHVH, Dios de Israel, más que todos los reyes de Israel que habían sido antes de él. 34 En ese tiempo Hiel de Bet-’El reedificó Jericó: a costa de Abiram su primogénito puso los cimientos, y a costa de Segub su hijo menor levantó sus puertas, conforme a la palabra que YHVH había hablado por medio de Josué ben Nun.

2 “Since I exalted you out of the dust and made you leader over my people Israel, and you have walked in the way of Jeroboam and have made my people Israel to sin, provoking me to anger with their sins, (1 R 14:7; 1 R 15:34) 3 behold, I will utterly sweep away Baasha and his house, and I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat. Elah Reigns in Israel

8 In the twenty-sixth year of Asa king of Judah, Elah the son of Baasha began to reign over Israel in Tirzah, and he reigned two years. 9 But his servant Zimri, commander of half his chariots, conspired against him. When he was at Tirzah, drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza, who was over the household in Tirzah, (1 R 18:3; 2 R 9:31) 10 Zimri came in and struck him down and killed him, in the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his place. 11 When he began to reign, as soon as he had seated himself on his throne, he struck down all the house of Baasha. He did not leave him a single male of his relatives or his friends. (1 S 25:22; 1 R 16:3) 12 Thus Zimri destroyed all the house of Baasha, according to the word of the Lord, which he spoke against Baasha by Jehu the prophet, (1 R 16:1; 1 R 16:3) 13 for all the sins of Baasha and the sins of Elah his son, which they sinned and which they made Israel to sin, provoking the Lord God of Israel to anger with their idols. Zimri Reigns in Israel

15 In the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, Zimri reigned seven days in Tirzah. Now the troops were encamped against Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines, (1 R 15:27) 16 and the troops who were encamped heard it said, “Zimri has conspired, and he has killed the king.” Therefore all Israel made Omri, the commander of the army, king over Israel that day in the camp. 17 So Omri went up from Gibbethon, and all Israel with him, and they besieged Tirzah. 18 And when Zimri saw that the city was taken, he went into the citadel of the king’s house and burned the king’s house over him with fire and died, 19 because of his sins that he committed, doing evil in the sight of the Lord, walking in the way of Jeroboam, and for his sin which he committed, making Israel to sin. (1 R 15:26; 1 R 15:34) 20 Now the rest of the acts of Zimri, and the conspiracy that he made, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

Omri Reigns in Israel

21 Then the people of Israel were divided into two parts. Half of the people followed Tibni the son of Ginath, to make him king, and half followed Omri. 22 But the people who followed Omri overcame the people who followed Tibni the son of Ginath. So Tibni died, and Omri became king. 23 In the thirty-first year of Asa king of Judah, Omri began to reign over Israel, and he reigned for twelve years; six years he reigned in Tirzah. 24 He bought the hill of Samaria from Shemer for two talents^[1] of silver, and he fortified the hill and called the name of the city that he built Samaria, after the name of Shemer, the owner of the hill. (1 R 13:32; 1 R 16:28; 1 R 16:32) 25 Omri did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and did more evil than all who were before him. (1 R 16:30; Miq 6:16) 26 For he walked in all the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and in the sins that he made Israel to sin, provoking the Lord, the God of Israel, to anger by their idols. (1 R 16:13; 1 R 16:19) 27 Now the rest of the acts of Omri that he did, and the might that he showed, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? 28 And Omri slept with his fathers and was buried in Samaria, and Ahab his son reigned in his place.

Ahab Reigns in Israel

29 In the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, Ahab the son of Omri began to reign over Israel, and Ahab the son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty-two years. 30 And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord, more than all who were before him. (1 R 16:25; 1 R 21:25) 31 And as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, he took for his wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and went and served Baal and worshiped him. (Ex 34:16; Dt 7:3; Jue 18:7; 1 R 21:25; 2 R 3:2; 2 R 10:18; 2 R 17:16)

32 He erected an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he built in Samaria. (2 R 10:21; 2 R 10:26) 33 And Ahab made an Asherah. Ahab did more to provoke the Lord, the God of Israel, to anger than all the kings of Israel who were before him. (Ex 34:13; 1 R 16:30; 1 R 18:19; 2 R 13:6; 2 R 17:10; 2 R 21:3; 2 Cr 14:3; Jer 17:2)

34 In his days Hiel of Bethel built Jericho. He laid its foundation at the cost of Abiram his firstborn, and set up its gates at the cost of his youngest son Segub, according to the word of the Lord, which he spoke by Joshua the son of Nun. (Jos 6:26; 2 R 2:4; 2 R 2:18)
