1Ahora bien, además de la hija de Faraón, el rey Salomón amó a muchas mujeres extranjeras: moabitas, amonitas, edomitas, sidonias y heteas;2de entre las naciones que había dicho YHVH a los hijos de Israel: No penetréis en ellas ni ellas penetren en vosotros, pues de seguro apartarán vuestro corazón hacia sus dioses. A éstos Salomón se apegó apasionadamente,3porque llegó a tener setecientas mujeres reinas y trescientas concubinas, que pervirtieron su corazón,4pues cuando Salomón era ya anciano, sucedió que sus mujeres hicieron desviar su corazón hacia otros dioses, y ya no estuvo su corazón sumiso a la voluntad de YHVH su Dios, como el corazón de David su padre.5Salomón anduvo en pos de Astarté, diosa de los sidonios, y en pos de Milcom, ídolo abominable de los amonitas.6E hizo Salomón lo malo ante los ojos de YHVH, y no siguió plenamente a YHVH como David su padre,7pues Salomón edificó en el monte que está frente a Jerusalem, un lugar alto a Quemós, ídolo abominable de Moab, y a Moloc, ídolo abominable de los hijos de Amón.8Y así hizo para todas sus mujeres extranjeras, las cuales quemaban incienso e inmolaban víctimas a sus dioses.9Y YHVH se indignó con Salomón, porque su corazón se había desviado de YHVH, Dios de Israel, quien se le había aparecido dos veces,10y le había mandado acerca de esto, que no siguiera a otros dioses; pero él no observó lo que YHVH le había ordenado.11Entonces YHVH dijo a Salomón: Por cuanto esto ha estado en tu mente, y no has guardado mi pacto y mis estatutos que te he ordenado, de seguro rasgaré tu reino y lo daré a un siervo tuyo.12Pero por amor a tu padre David, no lo haré en tus días, sino que lo rasgaré de la mano de un hijo tuyo.13Pero no le arrebataré todo el reino, sino que le daré a tu hijo una tribu, por amor a mi siervo David y por amor a Jerusalem, que Yo he escogido.14Y YHVH levantó un adversario contra Salomón: Hadad edomita, de la descendencia real en Edom.15Porque sucedió cuando David estaba en Edom, y Joab, general del ejército, había subido a enterrar a los muertos (después de haber herido a todos los varones de Edom,16porque Joab y todo Israel habían permanecido allí seis meses hasta que exterminaron a todos los varones de Edom),17Hadad había huido a Egipto con algunos edomitas de los siervos de su padre, siendo Hadad todavía un niño.18Y partiendo de Madián, fueron a Parán, y tomaron consigo a algunos hombres de Parán y llegaron a Egipto, al Faraón rey de Egipto, quien le dio una casa, y le asignó alimentos, y le dio tierras.19Y Hadad halló gran favor ante los ojos del Faraón, quien le dio por mujer a la hermana de su esposa, la hermana de la reina Tafnes.20Y la hermana de Tafnes le parió a su hijo Genubat, a quien Tafnes amamantó en la casa del Faraón. Y Genubat estaba en la casa del Faraón, entre los hijos del Faraón.21Y cuando Hadad supo en Egipto que David había reposado con sus padres, y que Joab, general del ejército, había muerto, Hadad dijo al Faraón: Permite que me vaya y regrese a mi tierra.22El Faraón le preguntó: Pero, ¿qué te falta conmigo para que procures irte a tu tierra? Y él respondió: Nada; pero de todos modos déjame ir.23’Elohim también le levantó como adversario a Rezón hijo de Eliada, quien había huido de su señor Hadad-ezer, rey de Soba.24Éste reunió gente y vino a ser jefe de una banda armada cuando David destrozó a los de Soba, y fueron a Damasco y habitaron allí, y lo hicieron rey en Damasco.25Fue adversario de Israel todos los días de Salomón, además del mal que hacía Hadad; fue hostil a Israel y reinó sobre Siria.26También Jeroboam ben Nabat, efrateo de Zereda, siervo de Salomón, cuya madre era una mujer viuda llamada Zerúa, se rebeló y alzó su mano contra el rey.27Y ésta fue la causa por la que alzó su mano contra el rey: Salomón estaba edificando la fortaleza, y reparando la brecha de la muralla de la ciudad de David, su padre;28y este Jeroboam era hombre esforzado, y viendo Salomón que el joven era eficiente, lo puso a cargo de todos los trabajos de la casa de José.29Y en aquel tiempo aconteció que Jeroboam salió de Jerusalem, y en el camino encontró al profeta Ahías silonita; y éste estaba cubierto con una capa nueva, y estaban ellos dos solos en el campo.30Entonces Ahías tomó el manto nuevo que llevaba sobre sí, lo rasgó en doce trozos,31y dijo a Jeroboam: Toma tú diez trozos, porque así dice YHVH, Dios de Israel: He aquí, Yo rasgo el reino de la mano de Salomón, y a ti te doy diez tribus,32pues él tendrá una tribu, por amor a mi siervo David y por amor a Jerusalem, la ciudad que Yo escogí entre todas las tribus de Israel.33Porque me han abandonado y se han postrado ante Astarté, diosa de los sidonios, ante Quemós, dios de Moab, y ante Milcom dios de los hijos de Amón, y no han andado en mis caminos para hacer lo recto ante mis ojos, y guardar mis estatutos y mis decretos, como David su padre.34Pero no quitaré de su mano todo el reino, porque lo he puesto como gobernante todos los días de su vida, por amor a mi siervo David, al cual Yo elegí, y el cual guardó mis mandamientos y mis estatutos.35Pero quitaré el reino de mano de su hijo, y a ti te daré diez tribus.36Y a su hijo le daré una tribu, para que mi siervo David tenga en él una lámpara delante de mí todos los días en Jerusalem, la ciudad que Yo me escogí para poner allí mi Nombre.37Yo pues te tomaré a ti, y tú reinarás sobre todo lo que tu alma desee, y serás rey sobre Israel.38Y sucederá que si obedeces todo lo que te mande, y andas en mis caminos y haces lo recto ante mis ojos guardando mis estatutos y mis mandamientos como hizo mi siervo David, Yo estaré contigo y te edificaré una casa firme, como se la edifiqué a David, y te entregaré Israel;39y por esto humillaré a la descendencia de David, pero no para siempre.40Salomón entonces procuró matar a Jeroboam, pero Jeroboam se levantó y huyó a Egipto, a Sisac rey de Egipto, y estuvo en Egipto hasta la muerte de Salomón.41Los demás hechos de Salomón, todas las cosas que hizo, y su sabiduría, ¿no están escritos en el rollo de las Crónicas de Salomón?42Los días que Salomón reinó en Jerusalem sobre todo Israel fueron cuarenta años.43Y Salomón durmió con sus padres, y fue sepultado en la ciudad de David su padre, y Roboam su hijo reinó en su lugar.
1Now King Solomon loved many foreign women, along with the daughter of Pharaoh: Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite, Sidonian, and Hittite women, (Dt 17:17; Neh 13:26)2from the nations concerning which the Lord had said to the people of Israel, “You shall not enter into marriage with them, neither shall they with you, for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods.” Solomon clung to these in love. (Ex 34:16)3He had 700 wives, who were princesses, and 300 concubines. And his wives turned away his heart.4For when Solomon was old his wives turned away his heart after other gods, and his heart was not wholly true to the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father. (1 R 8:61; 1 R 9:4)5For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. (Jue 2:13; 1 R 11:7; 1 R 11:33; 2 R 23:13)6So Solomon did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and did not wholly follow the Lord, as David his father had done.7Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Molech the abomination of the Ammonites, on the mountain east of Jerusalem. (Lv 18:21; Lv 20:2; Nm 21:29; 1 R 11:5; 2 R 23:10; 2 R 23:13; Hch 7:43)8And so he did for all his foreign wives, who made offerings and sacrificed to their gods.
The Lord Raises Adversaries
9And the Lord was angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned away from the Lord, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice (1 R 3:5; 1 R 9:2; 1 R 11:2; 1 R 11:4)10and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods. But he did not keep what the Lord commanded. (1 R 6:12; 1 R 9:6)11Therefore the Lord said to Solomon, “Since this has been your practice and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes that I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you and will give it to your servant. (1 R 11:31; 1 R 12:15)12Yet for the sake of David your father I will not do it in your days, but I will tear it out of the hand of your son.13However, I will not tear away all the kingdom, but I will give one tribe to your son, for the sake of David my servant and for the sake of Jerusalem that I have chosen.” (Dt 12:5; Dt 12:11; 2 S 7:15; 1 R 11:32; 1 R 11:36; 1 R 12:20; Sal 89:33)14And the Lord raised up an adversary against Solomon, Hadad the Edomite. He was of the royal house in Edom.15For when David was in Edom, and Joab the commander of the army went up to bury the slain, he struck down every male in Edom (2 S 8:14; 1 Cr 18:12)16(for Joab and all Israel remained there six months, until he had cut off every male in Edom).17But Hadad fled to Egypt, together with certain Edomites of his father’s servants, Hadad still being a little child.18They set out from Midian and came to Paran and took men with them from Paran and came to Egypt, to Pharaoh king of Egypt, who gave him a house and assigned him an allowance of food and gave him land. (Nm 10:12; Dt 33:2)19And Hadad found great favor in the sight of Pharaoh, so that he gave him in marriage the sister of his own wife, the sister of Tahpenes the queen.20And the sister of Tahpenes bore him Genubath his son, whom Tahpenes weaned in Pharaoh’s house. And Genubath was in Pharaoh’s house among the sons of Pharaoh.21But when Hadad heard in Egypt that David slept with his fathers and that Joab the commander of the army was dead, Hadad said to Pharaoh, “Let me depart, that I may go to my own country.” (1 R 2:10)22But Pharaoh said to him, “What have you lacked with me that you are now seeking to go to your own country?” And he said to him, “Only let me depart.”23God also raised up as an adversary to him, Rezon the son of Eliada, who had fled from his master Hadadezer king of Zobah. (2 S 10:16)24And he gathered men about him and became leader of a marauding band, after the killing by David. And they went to Damascus and lived there and made him king in Damascus. (2 S 8:3; 2 S 10:8; 2 S 10:18)25He was an adversary of Israel all the days of Solomon, doing harm as Hadad did. And he loathed Israel and reigned over Syria.26Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephraimite of Zeredah, a servant of Solomon, whose mother’s name was Zeruah, a widow, also lifted up his hand against the king. (1 S 1:1; 2 S 20:21; 1 R 12:2; 2 Cr 13:6)27And this was the reason why he lifted up his hand against the king. Solomon built the Millo, and closed up the breach of the city of David his father. (2 S 5:9; 1 R 9:24)28The man Jeroboam was very able, and when Solomon saw that the young man was industrious he gave him charge over all the forced labor of the house of Joseph.29And at that time, when Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite found him on the road. Now Ahijah had dressed himself in a new garment, and the two of them were alone in the open country. (1 R 12:15; 1 R 14:2; 1 R 15:29; 2 Cr 9:29)30Then Ahijah laid hold of the new garment that was on him, and tore it into twelve pieces. (1 S 15:27)31And he said to Jeroboam, “Take for yourself ten pieces, for thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘Behold, I am about to tear the kingdom from the hand of Solomon and will give you ten tribes (1 R 11:11)32(but he shall have one tribe, for the sake of my servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem, the city that I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel), (Dt 12:5; 1 R 11:13; 1 R 12:21; 1 R 14:21)33because they have[1] forsaken me and worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of Moab, and Milcom the god of the Ammonites, and they have not walked in my ways, doing what is right in my sight and keeping my statutes and my rules, as David his father did. (1 R 11:5; 1 R 11:7)34Nevertheless, I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand, but I will make him ruler all the days of his life, for the sake of David my servant whom I chose, who kept my commandments and my statutes.35But I will take the kingdom out of his son’s hand and will give it to you, ten tribes. (1 R 11:12; 1 R 12:16)36Yet to his son I will give one tribe, that David my servant may always have a lamp before me in Jerusalem, the city where I have chosen to put my name. (2 S 21:17; 1 R 11:32; 1 R 15:4; 2 R 8:19; 2 Cr 21:7)37And I will take you, and you shall reign over all that your soul desires, and you shall be king over Israel.38And if you will listen to all that I command you, and will walk in my ways, and do what is right in my eyes by keeping my statutes and my commandments, as David my servant did, I will be with you and will build you a sure house, as I built for David, and I will give Israel to you. (Jos 1:5; 1 S 2:35; 2 S 7:11; 2 S 7:27)39And I will afflict the offspring of David because of this, but not forever.’”40Solomon sought therefore to kill Jeroboam. But Jeroboam arose and fled into Egypt, to Shishak king of Egypt, and was in Egypt until the death of Solomon. (1 R 14:25; 2 Cr 12:2; 2 Cr 12:5; 2 Cr 12:7; 2 Cr 12:9)41Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom, are they not written in the Book of the Acts of Solomon? (2 Cr 9:29)42And the time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years.43And Solomon slept with his fathers and was buried in the city of David his father. And Rehoboam his son reigned in his place. (1 R 2:10; 1 R 14:20; Mt 1:7)
