1 „Du menneske,” fortsatte Herren. „Når belejringstiden er omme, skal du tage et skarpt sværd og bruge det som barberkniv til at rage alt dit hår og skæg af. Tag så en vægt og vej det i tre lige store portioner. 2 En portion skal du brænde inden for bymuren på din tegning. En anden portion skal du hugge i småstykker med sværdet rundt om byen. Den sidste portion skal du sprede for vinden, for jeg vil jage de overlevende af mit folk bort med magt. 3 Tag lidt af det hår, der blev spredt for vinden, og bind det som kvaster på din kappe. 4 Tag så deraf nogle få hår og kast dem i ilden, så de brændes op. Derefter vil den rensende ild brede sig til hele Israels folk.” 5 Hør, hvad Gud Herren siger: „Det er, hvad der skal ske med Jerusalems befolkning. Jeg udvalgte byen til at være som et centrum for alle andre lande. 6 Men folket gjorde oprør imod mine love og forordninger, og de blev endnu værre end nabolandenes folk.” 7 Derfor siger Gud Herren: „I har nægtet at adlyde mine love og forskrifter og er blevet endnu mere ugudelige og oprørske end jeres nabofolk. I overholder ikke engang de almindelige samfundslove, som jeres nabofolk overholder. 8 Derfor vil jeg dømme jer og straffe jer for øjnene af alle de andre nationer. 9 På grund af de modbydelige synder, I har begået, vil jeg straffe jer værre, end jeg nogen sinde tidligere har gjort, og som jeg aldrig vil gøre igen. 10 Forældre vil spise deres egne børn, og børnene vil spise deres egne forældre, og den rest af befolkningen, som overlever, spreder jeg for alle vinde.” 11 „Så sandt jeg lever,” siger Gud Herren, „skal I komme til at bøde, fordi I har forurenet mit tempel med jeres afguder og afskyelige ofre. Jeg vil bruge sværdet som barberkniv og meje jer ned. Jeg vil ikke lægge fingrene imellem eller vise medlidenhed. 12 En tredjedel af jer vil dø af sult og epidemier inde i byen, en tredjedel af jer bliver dræbt i kampen mod fjenderne, og en tredjedel af jer bliver spredt for alle vinde, for jeg vil selv jage jer væk med magt. 13 Når dommen er udført, og jeg er færdig med at udøse min straf over dem, vil de overlevende indse, at jeg er en nidkær Gud, som er nødt til at straffe mit folks synder. 14-15 Jeg gør jeres land øde til skræk og advarsel for jeres nabolande. Enhver, som kommer forbi og ser ødelæggelsen, vil udtale nedladende ord imod jer. I bliver et skræmmende eksempel på hvilke voldsomme konsekvenser det får, når Herren udøser sin straf over en nation. 16 Jeg sender hungersnødens grusomme pile ind over jer. Sulten vil tage til, indtil den sidste bid brød er borte, og alt er forbi. 17 I bliver angrebet af vilde dyr, som vil tage jeres børn. Sygdom og krig hærger i landet, for jeg vil kæmpe imod jer. Jeg, Herren, har talt.”

1 “And you, O son of man, take a sharp sword. Use it as a barber’s razor and pass it over your head and your beard. Then take balances for weighing and divide the hair. (3.Mos 21,5; Salm 57,4; Es 7,20; Es 49,2; Ez 1,3; Ez 2,1; Ez 44,20) 2 A third part you shall burn in the fire in the midst of the city, when the days of the siege are completed. And a third part you shall take and strike with the sword all around the city. And a third part you shall scatter to the wind, and I will unsheathe the sword after them. (Jer 9,16; Ez 4,1; Ez 4,8; Ez 5,5; Ez 5,10; Ez 5,12; Ez 12,14) 3 And you shall take from these a small number and bind them in the skirts of your robe. (Jer 40,6; Jer 52,16) 4 And of these again you shall take some and cast them into the midst of the fire and burn them in the fire. From there a fire will come out into all the house of Israel. (Jer 42,18; Jer 44,14) 5 “Thus says the Lord God: This is Jerusalem. I have set her in the center of the nations, with countries all around her. (Ez 4,1; Ez 5,2; Ez 38,12) 6 And she has rebelled against my rules by doing wickedness more than the nations, and against my statutes more than the countries all around her; for they have rejected my rules and have not walked in my statutes. (Ez 5,5; Ez 16,47) 7 Therefore thus says the Lord God: Because you are more turbulent than the nations that are all around you, and have not walked in my statutes or obeyed my rules, and have not[1] even acted according to the rules of the nations that are all around you, (Salm 2,1; Salm 46,6; Ez 11,12; Ez 16,47) 8 therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, I, even I, am against you. And I will execute judgments[2] in your midst in the sight of the nations. (Ez 11,9; Ez 13,8; Ez 16,41; Ez 22,16; Ez 23,10) 9 And because of all your abominations I will do with you what I have never yet done, and the like of which I will never do again. (2.Kong 21,12; Klag 1,12; Dan 9,12) 10 Therefore fathers shall eat their sons in your midst, and sons shall eat their fathers. And I will execute judgments on you, and any of you who survive I will scatter to all the winds. And they shall know that I am the Lord—that I have spoken in my jealousy—when I spend my fury upon them. (Neh 2,17; Salm 79,4; Jer 22,5; Jer 24,9; Ez 5,5; Ez 6,6; Ez 22,4) 15 You shall be[4] a reproach and a taunt, a warning and a horror, to the nations all around you, when I execute judgments on you in anger and fury, and with furious rebukes—I am the Lord; I have spoken— (5.Mos 28,37; Ez 5,14; Ez 14,8; Ez 14,21; Ez 25,17) 16 when I send against you[5] the deadly arrows of famine, arrows for destruction, which I will send to destroy you, and when I bring more and more famine upon you and break your supply[6] of bread. (5.Mos 32,23; Ez 4,16) 17 I will send famine and wild beasts against you, and they will rob you of your children. Pestilence and blood shall pass through you, and I will bring the sword upon you.
