1Herren sagde til mig:2„Du menneske, mind Jerusalem[1] om hendes utroskab3og sig til hende: Hør, hvad Herren siger: Du kom til verden midt i Kana’ans land. Din far var amorit og din mor hittit.[2]4Da du blev født, var der ingen, der tog sig af dig. Din navlestreng blev ikke skåret over, og du blev hverken vasket, gnedet med salt eller klædt varmt på.5Ingen interesserede sig for dig eller havde medlidenhed med dig. Ingen hjalp dig, men du blev efterladt på åben mark for at dø. Fra den dag du blev født, var du uønsket.6Men jeg kom forbi og så dig ligge der og sprælle i dit eget blod, og jeg sagde: ‚Du skal leve!’7Jeg hjalp dig til at vokse som en plante på marken. Det var mine gaver, som gjorde dig til det, du var.15Men du begyndte at stole på din skønhed i stedet for på mig. Du betalte selv for din prostitution i stedet for at modtage betaling.35Hør nu, hvad Herren siger til dig:36Fordi du blottede dig for alle dine mange elskere og ofrede dine børns blod til dine afskyelige afgudsbilleder,37vil jeg kalde de elskere sammen, som du har ligget med, både dem du elskede, og dem du hadede, og jeg vil rive tøjet af dig for øjnene af dem, så din nøgenhed kan ses af alle og enhver.38Jeg vil give dig den straf, som en horkvinde eller morder kan forvente, både ydmygelse og død.39Jeg giver dig i nabofolkenes magt, og de vil nedrive dine offerhøje og afgudsaltre. De vil flå tøjet af dig, tage dine smukke juveler fra dig og efterlade dig nøgen.40-41De vil kalde pøbelen sammen og stene dig, hugge dig ned med sværdet, brænde dine huse og straffe dig for øjnene af andre kvinder. Din lillesøster, Sodoma, og hendes døtre boede mod syd.47Ikke alene gjorde du som dem, men i løbet af kort tid overgik du dem med hensyn til ugudelige handlinger.48Så sandt som jeg lever, siger Herren: Sodomas og hendes døtres ondskab kom aldrig på højde med din og dine døtres.49Din søster Sodoma og hendes døtre var stolte og levede i overflod og luksus, men hjalp aldrig de fattige og nødlidende.50De var selviske og begik afskyelige handlinger for øjnene af mig. Derfor fjernede jeg dem fra jordens overflade.51Samaria syndede groft, men kun halvt så meget som dig. Du har begået langt flere afskyelige handlinger end dine søstre,52og derfor får du også en værre straf end dem. I sammenligning med dine synder er dine søstres synder småting. Du får dem til at se helt uskyldige ud!53-55Derfor bliver den straf, som overgår dig, værre end deres, og det bringer dem en vis trøst. And you grew up and became tall and arrived at full adornment. Your breasts were formed, and your hair had grown; yet you were naked and bare. (2.Mos 1,7; Ez 16,11; Ez 16,13; Ez 16,22; Ez 16,39; Ez 23,29)8“When I passed by you again and saw you, behold, you were at the age for love, and I spread the corner of my garment over you and covered your nakedness; I made my vow to you and entered into a covenant with you, declares the Lord God, and you became mine. (Ruth 3,3; Salm 23,5)10I clothed you also with embroidered cloth and shod you with fine leather. You ate fine flour and honey and oil. You grew exceedingly beautiful and advanced to royalty. (5.Mos 32,13; Salm 48,2; Ez 16,15; Ez 16,25)14And your renown went forth among the nations because of your beauty, for it was perfect through the splendor that I had bestowed on you, declares the Lord God. (Klag 2,15; Ez 23,10)15“But you trusted in your beauty and played the whore[2] because of your renown and lavished your whorings[3] on any passerby; your beauty[4] became his. (3.Mos 17,7; Es 1,21; Es 57,8; Jer 2,20; Jer 3,2; Jer 3,6; Jer 3,20; Ez 16,13; Ez 16,25; Ez 23,3; Ez 23,8; Ez 23,11; Hos 1,2)16You took some of your garments and made for yourself colorful shrines, and on them played the whore. The like has never been, nor ever shall be.[5]17You also took your beautiful jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given you, and made for yourself images of men, and with them played the whore. (Ez 7,20; Ez 16,11; Ez 23,14)18And you took your embroidered garments to cover them, and set my oil and my incense before them. (Ez 23,41)19Also my bread that I gave you—I fed you with fine flour and oil and honey—you set before them for a pleasing aroma; and so it was, declares the Lord God. (Ez 6,13; Ez 16,13; Hos 2,8)20And you took your sons and your daughters, whom you had borne to me, and these you sacrificed to them to be devoured. Were your whorings so small a matter (Ez 16,21; Ez 16,36; Ez 20,26; Ez 20,31; Ez 23,37)21that you slaughtered my children and delivered them up as an offering by fire to them?22And in all your abominations and your whorings you did not remember the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare, wallowing in your blood. (Ez 16,6; Ez 16,43; Ez 16,60)23“And after all your wickedness (woe, woe to you! declares the Lord God),24you built yourself a vaulted chamber and made yourself a lofty place in every square. (Ez 16,39)25At the head of every street you built your lofty place and made your beauty an abomination, offering yourself[6] to any passerby and multiplying your whoring. (Es 57,7; Jer 2,20; Jer 3,2; Ez 16,14; Ez 16,15; Ez 16,31)26You also played the whore with the Egyptians, your lustful neighbors, multiplying your whoring, to provoke me to anger. (Jer 7,18; Ez 16,15; Ez 20,7; Ez 23,14; Ez 23,19)27Behold, therefore, I stretched out my hand against you and diminished your allotted portion and delivered you to the greed of your enemies, the daughters of the Philistines, who were ashamed of your lewd behavior. (Ez 23,14)30“How sick is your heart,[7] declares the Lord God, because you did all these things, the deeds of a brazen prostitute,31building your vaulted chamber at the head of every street, and making your lofty place in every square. Yet you were not like a prostitute, because you scorned payment. (Ez 16,33)32Adulterous wife, who receives strangers instead of her husband!33Men give gifts to all prostitutes, but you gave your gifts to all your lovers, bribing them to come to you from every side with your whorings. (Ez 16,41; Hos 8,9)34So you were different from other women in your whorings. No one solicited you to play the whore, and you gave payment, while no payment was given to you; therefore you were different. (Ez 16,33)35“Therefore, O prostitute, hear the word of the Lord:36Thus says the Lord God, Because your lust was poured out and your nakedness uncovered in your whorings with your lovers, and with all your abominable idols, and because of the blood of your children that you gave to them, (Ez 16,20; Ez 16,38)37therefore, behold, I will gather all your lovers with whom you took pleasure, all those you loved and all those you hated. I will gather them against you from every side and will uncover your nakedness to them, that they may see all your nakedness. (Klag 1,8; Ez 16,27; Ez 16,39; Ez 23,10; Ez 23,22; Ez 23,28; Ez 23,29; Hos 2,10; Hos 8,10; Åb 17,16)38And I will judge you as women who commit adultery and shed blood are judged, and bring upon you the blood of wrath and jealousy. I will make you stop playing the whore, and you shall also give payment no more. (Ez 5,13)43Because you have not remembered the days of your youth, but have enraged me with all these things, therefore, behold, I have returned your deeds upon your head, declares the Lord God. Have you not committed lewdness in addition to all your abominations? (Ez 7,4; Ez 16,22; Ez 16,60; Ez 22,9)44“Behold, everyone who uses proverbs will use this proverb about you: ‘Like mother, like daughter.’ (Ez 12,22; Ez 18,2)45You are the daughter of your mother, who loathed her husband and her children; and you are the sister of your sisters, who loathed their husbands and their children. Your mother was a Hittite and your father an Amorite. (Ez 16,3; Ez 16,46)46And your elder sister is Samaria, who lived with her daughters to the north of you; and your younger sister, who lived to the south of you, is Sodom with her daughters. (Es 1,10; Ez 16,48; Ez 16,51; Ez 16,53; Ez 16,55; Ez 23,4; Ez 23,33)47Not only did you walk in their ways and do according to their abominations; within a very little time you were more corrupt than they in all your ways. (1.Mos 13,10)50They were haughty and did an abomination before me. So I removed them, when I saw it. (1.Mos 13,13; 1.Mos 19,24)51Samaria has not committed half your sins. You have committed more abominations than they, and have made your sisters appear righteous by all the abominations that you have committed. (Jer 3,11; Ez 16,46; Ez 16,52)52Bear your disgrace, you also, for you have intervened on behalf of your sisters. Because of your sins in which you acted more abominably than they, they are more in the right than you. So be ashamed, you also, and bear your disgrace, for you have made your sisters appear righteous. (Ez 32,24)53“I will restore their fortunes, both the fortunes of Sodom and her daughters, and the fortunes of Samaria and her daughters, and I will restore your own fortunes in their midst, (Ez 29,14; Ez 39,25; Zef 2,7; Zef 3,20)54that you may bear your disgrace and be ashamed of all that you have done, becoming a consolation to them. (Ez 14,22; Ez 16,61)55As for your sisters, Sodom and her daughters shall return to their former state, and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former state, and you and your daughters shall return to your former state. (Ez 16,53; Ez 36,11)56Was not your sister Sodom a byword in your mouth in the day of your pride, (Es 2,6)57before your wickedness was uncovered? Now you have become an object of reproach for the daughters of Syria[8] and all those around her, and for the daughters of the Philistines, those all around who despise you. The Lord’s Everlasting Covenant
59“For thus says the Lord God: I will deal with you as you have done, you who have despised the oath in breaking the covenant, (Ez 17,15; Ez 17,18)60yet I will remember my covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish for you an everlasting covenant. (3.Mos 26,42; Jer 32,40; Jer 50,5; Ez 16,8; Ez 16,22; Ez 16,43)61Then you will remember your ways and be ashamed when you take your sisters, both your elder and your younger, and I give them to you as daughters, but not on account of[9] the covenant with you. (Es 54,1; Ez 6,9; Ez 16,45; Ez 16,54)62I will establish my covenant with you, and you shall know that I am the Lord, (Ez 6,7)63that you may remember and be confounded, and never open your mouth again because of your shame, when I atone for you for all that you have done, declares the Lord God.” (Rom 3,19)
