1-2 Gennem Moses gav Herren israelitterne følgende besked: „I står nu på tærskelen til Kana’ans land. Jeg giver jer hele dette land, og det skal være jeres hjemland.3 Mod syd grænser landet op til Edom og Zins ørken. Grænsen løber fra sydspidsen af Det Døde Hav4 sydpå til Akrabbimpasset og videre mod Zins ørken. Det sydligste punkt er Kadesh-Barnea. Derfra løber grænsen mod nordvest til Hatzar-Addar og videre til Atzmon.5 Fra Atzmon følger grænsen Egyptens Bæk helt ud til Middelhavet.6 Mod vest danner Middelhavet grænse.7-9 Nordgrænsen løber i lige linie fra Middelhavet og østpå til Hors bjerg og videre til Lebo-Hamat, Zedad og Zifron og ender ved Hatzar-Enan.10 Den østlige grænse går fra Hatzar-Enan sydpå til Shefam11 og videre til Ribla øst for Ajin. Derfra slår den en bue, først sydpå og derefter vestpå til den rammer Galilæasøens sydligste punkt.12 Derfra følger den Jordanfloden sydpå til Det Døde Hav.”13 Moses sagde nu til israelitterne: „Hele dette område skal fordeles ved lodkastning mellem de ni stammer og den halve Manasse-stamme.14-15 Rubens og Gads stammer samt den anden halvdel af Manasses stamme skal ikke være med i lodtrækningen, for de har allerede fået tildelt området øst for Jordanfloden.”16 Derefter sagde Herren til Moses:17 „Jeg har udvalgt præsten Eleazar og Josva til at overvåge fordelingen af landet.18 De skal have hjælp af en leder fra hver stamme.”19-29 Herren udpegede følgende mænd til opgaven: Kaleb, Jefunnes søn, fra Judas stamme; Shemuel, Ammihuds søn, fra Simeons stamme; Elidad, Kislons søn, fra Benjamins stamme; Bukki, Joglis søn, fra Dans stamme; Hanniel, Efods søn, fra Manasses stamme; Kemuel, Shiftans søn, fra Efraims stamme; Elitzafan, Parnaks søn, fra Zebulons stamme; Paltiel, Azzans søn, fra Issakars stamme; Ahihud, Shelomis søn, fra Ashers stamme; og Pedael, Ammihuds søn, fra Naftalis stamme.

1 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,2 “Command the people of Israel, and say to them, When you enter the land of Canaan (this is the land that shall fall to you for an inheritance, the land of Canaan as defined by its borders), (1.Mos 17,8; 2.Mos 3,8; 4.Mos 34,13; Salm 105,11)3 your south side shall be from the wilderness of Zin alongside Edom, and your southern border shall run from the end of the Salt Sea on the east. (1.Mos 14,3; 1.Mos 15,18; 4.Mos 34,12; Josva 15,1; Josva 15,2; Ez 47,13)4 And your border shall turn south of the ascent of Akrabbim, and cross to Zin, and its limit shall be south of Kadesh-barnea. Then it shall go on to Hazar-addar, and pass along to Azmon. (Josva 15,3)5 And the border shall turn from Azmon to the Brook of Egypt, and its limit shall be at the sea. This shall be your western border.7 “This shall be your northern border: from the Great Sea you shall draw a line to Mount Hor. (4.Mos 13,21; 2.Kong 14,25; Ez 47,15; Ez 48,1)9 Then the border shall extend to Ziphron, and its limit shall be at Hazar-enan. This shall be your northern border. (Ez 47,17)10 “You shall draw a line for your eastern border from Hazar-enan to Shepham.11 And the border shall go down from Shepham to Riblah on the east side of Ain. And the border shall go down and reach to the shoulder of the Sea of Chinnereth on the east. This shall be your land as defined by its borders all around.” (4.Mos 34,3)13 Moses commanded the people of Israel, saying, “This is the land that you shall inherit by lot, which the Lord has commanded to give to the nine tribes and to the half-tribe. (4.Mos 34,2; Josva 14,1)14 For the tribe of the people of Reuben by fathers’ houses and the tribe of the people of Gad by their fathers’ houses have received their inheritance, and also the half-tribe of Manasseh. (4.Mos 32,33; Josva 14,3)15 The two tribes and the half-tribe have received their inheritance beyond the Jordan east of Jericho, toward the sunrise.”16 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,17 “These are the names of the men who shall divide the land to you for inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun. (Josva 14,1; Josva 19,51)18 You shall take one chief from every tribe to divide the land for inheritance. (4.Mos 1,4; 4.Mos 1,16)19 These are the names of the men: Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.20 Of the tribe of the people of Simeon, Shemuel the son of Ammihud.21 Of the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad the son of Chislon.22 Of the tribe of the people of Dan a chief, Bukki the son of Jogli.23 Of the people of Joseph: of the tribe of the people of Manasseh a chief, Hanniel the son of Ephod.24 And of the tribe of the people of Ephraim a chief, Kemuel the son of Shiphtan.25 Of the tribe of the people of Zebulun a chief, Elizaphan the son of Parnach.26 Of the tribe of the people of Issachar a chief, Paltiel the son of Azzan.27 And of the tribe of the people of Asher a chief, Ahihud the son of Shelomi.28 Of the tribe of the people of Naphtali a chief, Pedahel the son of Ammihud.”29 These are the men whom the Lord commanded to divide the inheritance for the people of Israel in the land of Canaan.
