1Měla pak Noémi přítele po manželu svém, muže mocného z čeledi Elimelechovy, jménem Bóza.2I řekla Rut Moábská Noémi: Nechť medle jdu na pole sbírati klasů za tím, kdož by mi toho přál. Jížto ona řekla: Jdi, dcero má.3Šla tedy, a přišedši, sbírala klasy na poli za ženci. Přihodilo se pak, že přišla na díl pole toho, kteréž přináleželo Bózovi, jenž byl z čeledi Elimelechovy.4A v tom přišel Bóz z Betléma, a řekl žencům: Hospodin s vámi. Kteříž odpověděli jemu: Požehnejž tobě Hospodin.5I řekl Bóz služebníku svému, kterýž postaven byl nad ženci: Čí jest tato mladice?6Odpověděl služebník ten, kterýž postaven byl nad ženci, a řekl: Jest mladice Moábská, kteráž přišla s Noémi z země Moábské.7A řekla mi: Prosím, nechť sbírám a shromažďuji klasy mezi snopy za ženci. A přišedši, trvá od jitra až dosavad, kromě že na chvilku doma pobyla.8Tedy řekl Bóz k Rut: Slyš, dcero má, nechoď sbírati na jiné pole, aniž odcházej odsud, ale přídrž se teď děvek mých.9Zůstávej na tom poli, na němž budou žíti, a choď za nimi, nebo jsem přikázal služebníkům svým, aby se tebe žádný nedotýkal. I posadila se při žencích, a podal jí pražmy; ona pak jedla až do sytosti, a ještě jí zbylo.15I vstala, aby sbírala. Přikázal pak Bóz služebníkům svým, řka: Byť pak i mezi snopy sbírala, nezbraňujte jí.16Nýbrž naschvál jí upouštějte z snopů a nechávejte, ať sbírá, a nedomlouvejte jí.17Sbírala tedy na poli tom až do večera, a což sebrala, to vymlátila; i byla téměř míra efi ječmene.18Kterýž vzavši, přišla do města, a viděla svegruše její to, což nasbírala. Vyňala také a dala jí to, což pozůstalo po nasycení jejím.19I řekla jí svegruše její: Kdes sbírala dnes, a kdes pracovala? Budiž požehnaný ten, kterýž tě přijal. Tedy oznámila svegruši své, u koho pracovala, řkuci: Jméno muže, u kteréhož jsem pracovala dnes, jest Bóz.20I řekla Noémi nevěstě své: Požehnanýť jest od Hospodina, že nepřestal milosrdenství svého nad živými i mrtvými. I to ještě k ní řekla Noémi: Blízký přítel náš a z příbuzných našich jest muž ten.21Řekla jí také Rut Moábská: I to mi ještě řekl: Čeládky mé přídrž se, dokavadž by všeho, což mého jest, nedožali.22Tedy řekla Noémi Rut nevěstě své: Dobré jest tedy, dcero má, abys vycházela s děvečkami jeho, ať by na jiném poli něco nepřekazili.23A tak se přídržela Rut děvek Bózových, a sbírala klasy, dokudž nesžali ječmene a pšenice, a bydlela u svegruše své.

Jen trochu si tady oddechla.“8 Bóaz oslovil Rút: „Poslyš, má dcero. Nechoď sbírat na jiné pole a neodcházej odtud. Přidrž se mých děveček.9Podívej se vždy, na které části pole budou sklízet, a jdi za nimi. Poručil jsem služebníkům, aby tě neobtěžovali. Budeš-li mít žízeň, jdi k nádobám a napij se vody, kterou služebníci načerpají.“10 Tu padla na tvář, poklonila se k zemi, a otázala se ho: „Jak to, že jsem u tebe došla přízně, že se mě ujímáš, ačkoli jsem cizinka?“11 Bóaz jí odpověděl: „Jsem dobře zpraven o všem, co jsi po smrti svého muže učinila pro svou tchyni, že jsi opustila otce a matku i rodnou zemi a odešla jsi k lidu, který jsi dříve neznala.12 Nechť ti Hospodin odplatí za tvůj skutek. Ať tě bohatě odmění Hospodin, Bůh Izraele, pod jehož křídla ses přišla ukrýt!“13Ona řekla: „Kéž bys mi i nadále projevoval přízeň, pane. Potěšil jsi mě, že jsi se svou otrokyní mluvil přívětivě, ačkoli se nemohu rovnat žádné z tvých otrokyň.“14 Když byl čas k jídlu, řekl jí Bóaz: „Přistup blíž, pojez chleba a namáčej si sousta ve víně.“ Přisedla si k žencům a on jí nabídl pražené zrní. Najedla se dosyta a ještě jí zbylo.15 Když vstala, aby sbírala dál, přikázal Bóaz svým služebníkům: „Bude-li sbírat i mezi snopy, nevyčítejte jí to.16 Ano, upouštějte pro ni klasy z hrstí a nechávejte je ležet. Jen ať sbírá, neokřikujte ji.“17 Sbírala tedy na tom poli až do večera. Pak vymlátila to, co nasbírala, a byla toho asi éfa ječmene.18 Odnesla si jej do města. Když její tchyně spatřila, co nasbírala, a když Rút vyňala i to, co jí zbylo po nasycení, a dala jí,19 otázala se: „Kde jsi dnes sbírala? Kde jsi pracovala? Požehnán buď ten, kdo se tě ujal.“ Pověděla tchyni, u koho pracovala: „Muž, u něhož jsem dnes pracovala, se jmenuje Bóaz.“20 Tu řekla Noemi své snaše: „Požehnán buď od Hospodina, který neodňal své milosrdenství od živých ani od mrtvých.“ A pokračovala: „Ten muž je náš blízký příbuzný, patří k našim zastáncům.“21 Nato řekla moábská Rút: „Dokonce mě vybídl: Přidrž se mých služebníků, dokud nebudou hotovi se sklizní všeho, co mi patří.“22Noemi své snaše Rút přisvědčila: „Dobře, má dcero, že chceš chodit s jeho děvečkami. Aspoň na tebe nebudou na cizím poli dorážet.“23 Přidržela se tedy Bóazových děveček a sbírala, dokud neskončila sklizeň ječmene a pšenice. A bydlela s tchyní.

Neodcházej odsud, ale drž se u mých děveček.9Sleduj, kde budou na poli sklízet, a choď za nimi. Služebníkům přikážu, ať se tě ani nedotknou. Když budeš mít žízeň, jdi k nádobám a napij se vody, kterou služebníci načerpali.“10Rút padla na tvář a poklonila se až k zemi se slovy: „Čemu vděčím za tu laskavost, že se ke mně znáš? Vždyť jsem cizinka.“11Boáz jí odpověděl: „Slyšel jsem, co všechno jsi po smrti svého muže udělala pro svou tchyni a že jsi opustila svého otce, matku i rodnou zem a odešla k lidu, který jsi předtím neznala.12Kéž ti Hospodin za tvůj skutek odplatí! Kéž tě hojně odmění Hospodin, Bůh Izraele, pod jehož křídla ses přišla skrýt.“13„Jsi ke mně tak laskavý, pane,“ odvětila. „Potěšil jsi mě a mluvil jsi ke své služebnici přívětivě, přestože ani nepatřím k tvým služebným.“14Když pak přišel čas k jídlu, řekl jí Boáz: „Pojď sem, vezmi si chleba a namáčej si sousta ve víně.“[1] Přisedla si tedy k žencům, a když jí podal pražené zrní, jedla do sytosti a ještě jí zbylo.15Potom šla znovu paběrkovat a Boáz svým služebníkům přikázal: „Nechte ji sbírat mezi snopy, nebraňte jí.16Naopak, vytahujte klasy ze snopů a nechávejte je pro ni. Jen ať sbírá, neokřikujte ji!“17A tak na tom poli paběrkovala až do večera. Co nasbírala, potom vymlátila a byla toho celá efa ječmene.[2]18Rút si jej odnesla do města a ukázala své tchyni, kolik toho nasbírala. Vzala také, co jí zbylo po jídle, a nabídla jí.19„Kde jsi dnes sbírala?“ zeptala se jí tchyně, „kde jsi to pracovala? Ať je požehnán, kdo se tě ujal!“ „Pracovala jsem dnes u muže jménem Boáz.“ odpověděla Rút své tchyni.20Na to Noemi řekla: „Hospodin mu žehnej! Neodmítl prokázat laskavost živým ani mrtvým!“ A dodala: „Ten muž je jeden z našich blízkých příbuzných.“[3]21Moábka Rút vyprávěla dál: „Řekl mi dokonce: ‚Drž se mých služebníků, dokud nesklidí celou moji úrodu.‘“22Noemi své snaše Rút odpověděla: „Dobře, že budeš chodit s jeho děvečkami, dcero. Na jiném poli by ti někdo mohl ublížit.“23Rút se tedy držela Boázových děveček a paběrkovala, dokud neskončila sklizeň ječmene a pšenice. A zůstávala dál se svou tchyní.
