1 A však ne tak obklíčí mrákota té země, kteráž ssoužena bude, jako když se ponejprv nepřítel dotkl země Zabulon a země Neftalím, ani jako potom, když více obtíží, naproti moři, při Jordánu Galilei lidnou. 2 Nebo lid tento chodě v temnostech, uzří světlo veliké, a bydlícím v zemi stínu smrti světlo zastkví se. 3 Rozmnožil jsi tento národ, ale nezveličils veselé. A však veseliti se budou před tebou, tak jako se veselí ve žni, jako se radují, když dělí kořisti, 4 Když jho břemene jeho a prut ramene jeho, hůl násilníka jeho polámeš, jako za dnů Madianských, 5 Kdyžto všickni bojovníci předěšeni, a roucha ve krvi zbrocena, ano což hořeti mohlo, i ohněm spáleno. 6 Nebo dítě narodilo se nám, syn dán jest nám, i bude knížetství na rameni jeho, a nazváno bude jméno jeho: Předivný, Rádce, Bůh silný, Rek udatný, Otec věčnosti, Kníže pokoje. 7 K rozmnožování pak toho knížetství a pokoje, jemuž nebude konce, sedne na stolici Davidově, a na království jeho, až je i v řád uvede, a utvrdí v soudu a v spravedlnosti, od tohoto času až na věky. Horlivost Hospodina zástupů to učiní. 8 Slovo poslal Pán Jákobovi, a padlo v Izraeli. 9 A zvíť všecken lid, Efraim, i obyvatelé Samařští, kteříž v pýše a vysokomyslnosti srdce říkají: 10 Padly cihly, ale my tesaným kamenem stavěti budeme; planí fíkové podťati jsou, a my to v cedry směníme. 11 Ale zvýší Hospodin protivníky Rezinovy nad něj, a nepřátely jeho svolá, 12 Syrské po předu, a Filistinské po zadu. I budou žráti Izraele celými ústy, aniž ve všem tom odvrátí se prchlivost jeho, ale ruka jeho předce bude vztažená. 13 Protože se lid ten nenavrací k tomu, kterýž jej bije, a Hospodina zástupů nehledají, 14 Protož odetne Hospodin od Izraele hlavu i ocas, ratolest i sítí jednoho dne. 15 (Stařec a vzácný člověk, onť jest hlava, prorok pak, kterýž učí lži, onť jest ocas.) 16 Nebo vůdcové lidu tohoto jsou svůdcové, a kteříž se jim vésti dadí, zhynuli. 17 Protož z mládenců jeho nepotěší se Pán, a nad sirotky a vdovami jeho neslituje se; nebo všickni jsou pokrytci a zločinci, a každá ústa mluví nešlechetnost. Aniž ve všem tom odvrátí se prchlivost jeho, ale předce ruka jeho bude vztažená. 18 Nebo roznícena jsouc jako oheň bezbožnost, bodláčí a trní pálí, potom zapálí i houště lesu; pročež rozptýleni budou jako dým u povětří. 19 Pro hněv Hospodina zástupů zatmí se země, a ten lid bude jako pokrm ohně. Žádný ani bratra svého šanovati nebude, 20 Ale krájeje sobě po pravé straně, však lačněti bude, a zžíraje po levé, však nenasytí se. Jeden každý maso ramene svého žráti bude, 21 Manasses Efraima a Efraim Manessesa, oba pak spolu proti Judovi budou. Ve všem tom však neodvrátí se prchlivost jeho, ale předce ruka jeho bude vztažená.

SYN - — Světlo v temnostech - Do temnot soudobých strastí a úzkostí jako světlo zazáří narození božského Syna.

1 Lid, který chodí v temnotách, uvidí velké světlo; nad těmi, kdo sídlí v zemi šeré smrti, zazáří světlo. 2 Rozmnožil jsi národ, rozhojnil jsi jeho radost; budou se před tebou radovat, jako se radují ve žních, tak jako jásají ti, kdo se dělí o kořist. 3 Neboť jho jeho břemene a hůl na jeho záda i prut jeho poháněče zlomíš jako v den Midjánu. 4 Pak každá bota obouvaná do válečné vřavy a každý plášť vyválený v prolité krvi budou k spálení, budou potravou ohně. 5 Neboť se nám narodí dítě, bude nám dán syn, na jehož rameni spočine vláda a bude mu dáno jméno: „Divuplný rádce, Božský bohatýr, Otec věčnosti, Vládce pokoje.“ 6 Jeho vladařství se rozšíří a pokoj bez konce spočine na trůně Davidově a na jeho království. 7 Slovo poslal Panovník proti Jákobovi a dopadlo na Izraele. 8 Všechen lid o tom zvěděl, Efrajim i obyvatelé Samaří. V pýše a velikášství srdce však říkají: 9 „Co bylo z cihel, spadlo, vystavíme to z kvádrů; smokvoně byly vykáceny, nahradíme je cedry.“ 10 I pozvedl Hospodin proti nim protivníky – Resína – a popudil proti nim jejich nepřátele: 11 z východu Arama, ze západu Pelištejce, aby plnými ústy požírali Izraele. Tím vším se jeho hněv neodvrátil a jeho ruka zůstává napřažena. 12 Avšak lid se neobrátil k tomu, který ho bil, Hospodina zástupů se nedotazovali. 13 Proto Hospodin odsekl od Izraele hlavu i ocas, palmovou ratolest i sítinu v jediný den. 14 Stařec a vznešený jsou ona hlava a prorok učící klam je onen ocas. 15 Vůdcové tohoto lidu se stali svůdci a ti, kdo se dají vést, jsou ztraceni. 16 Proto neměl Panovník radost z jeho jinochů a nad jeho sirotky a vdovami se neslitoval, protože všichni jsou to rouhači a zlovolníci, bludně mluví každá ústa. Tím vším se jeho hněv neodvrátil a jeho ruka zůstává napřažena. 17 Avšak jejich svévole hoří jako oheň, požírá bodláčí a křoví, zapaluje houštiny lesa a kouř se vířivě vznáší. 18 Země se zatměla pro prchlivost Hospodina zástupů a lid se stal potravou ohně; nikdo nemá soucit ani s bratrem. 19 Hltá, co je napravo, a zůstává hladový, požírá nalevo, a sytý není, požírá maso své vlastní paže, 20 Manases Efrajima, Efrajim Manasesa a na Judu se vrhají společně. Tím vším se jeho hněv neodvrátil a jeho ruka zůstává napřažena.

Jeho hněv ještě nekončí

Tím vším ale jeho hněv stále nekončí, jeho ruka se ještě chystá udeřit! 12 Lid se však nevrátil k tomu, kdo jej ranil, Hospodina zástupů hledat nechtěli. 13 Proto Hospodin Izraeli odťal hlavu i ocas, palmový kmen i rákos v jednom dni. 14 (Tou hlavou je stařec a hodnostář, ocas je prorok, jenž učí lži.) 15 Neboť vůdci tohoto lidu jsou svůdci, a kdo šli za nimi, se dali oklamat. 16 Proto Pán neušetří^[3] jejich mladíky, neslituje se nad jejich sirotky a vdovami, neboť jsou všichni bezbožní a zlí a všechna ústa mluví nesmysly. Tím vším ale jeho hněv stále nekončí, jeho ruka se ještě chystá udeřit! 17 Zlo totiž vzplálo plameny, polyká trní i bodláčí, zapaluje i lesní houštiny, až se sloupy dýmu zvedají. 18 Hněvem Hospodina zástupů proto zčerná zem a tento lid bude plameny pohlcen. Nikdo nemá slitování ani nad bratry, 19 každý hltá maso vlastních příbuzných. Krájel napravo, zůstal hladový, hltal nalevo, a chce víc. 20 Manases Efraima, Efraim Manasese, na Judu se pak vrhli společně. Tím vším ale jeho hněv stále nekončí, jeho ruka se ještě chystá udeřit!
