1 Tedy Jákob vstav, odšel do země východní. 2 A pohleděv, uzřel studnici v poli a tři stáda ovcí, ana se složila při ní; nebo z té studnice napájeli stáda; a kámen veliký byl navrchu studnice. 3 Shánívána pak tam bývala všecka stáda, a teprv odvalovali kámen ten od vrchu té studnice, a napájeli dobytky; potom zas přivalovali kámen na vrch studnice, na místo jeho. 4 Tedy řekl jim Jákob: Bratří moji, odkud jste? Kteřížto odpověděli: Jsme z Cháran. 5 I řekl jim: Znáte-li Lábana, syna Náchorova? A oni řekli: Známe. 6 I dí opět k nim: Dobře-li se má? Odpověděli: Dobře, a aj, Ráchel dcera jeho tamto jde s dobytkem. 7 Tedy řekl: Však ještě daleko do večera, aniž ještě čas, aby dobytek byl sehnán; napojte stáda, a jděte, paste. 8 A oni odpověděli: Nemůžeme, než až se všecka stáda seženou, a odvalen bude kámen od svrchku studnice, abychom napojili ovce. 9 Když on ještě mluvil s nimi, přišla k tomu Ráchel s stádem otce svého; neb ona pásla stádo. 10 Tedy Jákob uzřev Ráchel, dceru Lábana ujce svého, a stádo jeho, přistoupil a odvalil ten kámen od vrchu studnice, a napojil stádo Lábana ujce svého. 11 A políbil Jákob Ráchel, a povýšiv hlasu svého, plakal. 12 Oznámil jí pak byl Jákob, že jest bratr otce jejího, a že jest syn Rebeky; a ona přiběhši, oznámila to otci svému. 13 I stalo se, když Lában uslyšel pověst o Jákobovi, synu sestry své, že vyběhl proti němu, a objav ho, políbil, a uvedl do domu svého; on pak vypravoval Lábanovi o všech těch věcech. 14 Jemužto odpověděl Lában: Jistě kost má a tělo mé jsi. I zůstal s ním přes celý měsíc. 15 Tedy řekl Lában Jákobovi: Zdali proto, že jsi bratr můj, darmo mi sloužiti budeš? Pověz mi, jaká má býti mzda tvá? 16 (Měl pak Lában dvě dcery; jméno starší Lía, a jméno mladší Ráchel. 17 Než Lía měla oči mdlé, ale Ráchel byla pěkné postavy a krásné tváři. 18 I miloval Jákob Ráchel.) Řekl tedy: Buduť sloužiti sedm let za Ráchel, dceru tvou mladší. 19 Odpověděl Lában: Lépeť jest, abych ji tobě dal, nežli bych ji dal muži jinému; zůstaniž se mnou. 20 Takž Jákob sloužil za Ráchel sedm let; a bylo před očima jeho jako něco málo dnů, proto že laskav byl na ni. 21 Potom řekl Jákob k Lábanovi: Dejž mi ženu mou; nebo vyplněni jsou dnové moji, abych všel k ní. 22 Tedy sezval Lában všecky muže místa toho, a učinil hody. 23 U večer pak vzav Líu, dceru svou, uvedl ji k němu; a on všel k ní. 24 Dal také Lában Zelfu děvku svou Líe, dceři své, za služebnici. 25 A když bylo ráno, poznal, že jest Lía. I řekl k Lábanovi: Což jsi mi to učinil? Zdaliž jsem za Ráchel nesloužil u tebe? Pročežs mne tedy oklamal? 26 Odpověděl Lában: Nebývá toho v kraji našem, aby vdávána byla mladší dříve, než prvorozená. 27 Vyplň týden této; dámeť potom i tuto za službu, kterouž sloužiti budeš u mne ještě sedm let jiných. 28 I udělal tak Jákob, a vyplnil týden její. Potom dal mu Ráchel dceru svou za manželku. 29 Dal také Lában Ráchel, dceři své, Bálu, děvku svou za služebnici. 30 Tedy všel také k Ráchel, a miloval ji více než Líu; i sloužil u něho ještě sedm let jiných. 31 Vida pak Hospodin, že Lía nemá lásky, otevřel život její; a Ráchel nechal neplodné. 32 Tedy počala Lía a porodila syna, a nazvala jméno jeho Ruben; nebo řekla: Jistě viděl Hospodin trápení mé; jižť nyní milovati mne bude muž můj. 33 I počala opět a porodila syna, a řekla: Jistě uslyšel Hospodin, že jsem v nenávisti, protož dal mi i tohoto. A nazvala jméno jeho Simeon. 34 A opět počala a porodila syna, a řekla: Již nyní připojí se ke mně muž můj, nebo jsem mu porodila tři syny. Z té příčiny nazváno jest jméno jeho Léví. 35 I počala ještě a porodila syna, a řekla: Již nyní chváliti budu Hospodina. Pročež nazvala jméno jeho Juda; i přestala roditi.

JÁKOB U LÁBANA - — Jákobův příchod - Jákob se setkává s Ráchel a nalézá útočiště v Lábanově domě.

1 Jákob vykročil lehkým krokem a přišel do země synů Východu. 2 Pojednou spatřil v poli studni, u níž odpočívala tři stáda ovcí. Z té studně napájeli stáda. Na jejím otvoru byl veliký kámen. 3 Když přihnali všechna stáda, odvalovali kámen z otvoru studně a napájeli ovce; potom zase kámen přivalili zpět na otvor studně. 4 I řekl jim Jákob: „Bratří, odkud jste?“ Odvětili: „Jsme z Cháranu.“ 5 Otázal se jich: „Znáte Lábana, syna Náchorova?“ Řekli: „Známe.“ 6 Zeptal se jich: „Daří se mu dobře?“ Odpověděli: „Dobře. Však tady přichází jeho dcera Ráchel s ovcemi.“ 7 Tu řekl: „Ještě je jasný den, není čas shánět dobytek. Napojte ovce a jděte pást.“ 8 Odpověděli: „Nemůžeme, dokud nebudou sehnána všechna stáda; pak odvalíme kámen z otvoru studně a napojíme ovce.“ 9 Když ještě s nimi rozmlouval, přišla Ráchel s ovcemi svého otce; byla totiž pastýřka. 10 Jakmile Jákob uviděl Ráchel, dceru Lábana, bratra své matky, a jeho ovce, přistoupil, odvalil kámen z otvoru studně a napojil ovce Lábana, bratra své matky. 11 Jákob pak Ráchel políbil a hlasitě zaplakal. 12 Oznámil jí, že je synovec jejího otce a syn Rebeky. Běžela to povědět svému otci. 13 Jakmile Lában uslyšel zprávu o Jákobovi, synu své sestry, běžel mu vstříc, objal ho, políbil a uvedl do svého domu. A on vypravoval Lábanovi všechno, co se přihodilo. 14 Lában mu řekl: „Ty jsi má krev a mé tělo!“ Pobyl tedy u něho celý měsíc.

— Jákobovy ženy - Jákob slouží u vypočítavého Lábana za jeho dcery. Bůh se ujímá nemilované a milovaná zůstává bez dětí.

15 Potom řekl Lában Jákobovi: „Což mi budeš sloužit zadarmo jen proto, že jsi můj příbuzný? Pověz mi, jaká má být tvá mzda.“ 16 Lában měl dvě dcery. Starší se jmenovala Lea, mladší Ráchel. 17 Lea měla mírné oči, Ráchel byla krásné postavy, krásného vzezření. 18 Jákob si Ráchel zamiloval; proto řekl: „Budu ti sloužit sedm let za tvou mladší dceru Ráchel.“ 19 Lában souhlasil: „Lépe, když ji dám tobě než někomu jinému; zůstaň u mne.“ 20 Jákob tedy sloužil za Ráchel sedm let; bylo to pro něho jako několik dní, protože ji miloval. 21 Potom řekl Jákob Lábanovi: „Dej mi mou ženu, má lhůta už uplynula. Toužím po ní.“ 22 Lában shromáždil všechny muže toho místa a uspořádal hody. 23 Večer vzal svou dceru Leu a uvedl ji k Jákobovi, a on k ní vešel. 24 Za služebnici své dceři Leji dal Lában otrokyni Zilpu. 25 Ráno Jákob viděl, že to je Lea. Vyčítal Lábanovi: „Cos mi to provedl? Což jsem u tebe nesloužil za Ráchel? Proč jsi mě oklamal?“ 26 Lában odvětil: „U nás není zvykem, aby se mladší vdávala dříve než prvorozená. 27 Zůstaň u ní po celý svatební týden a dáme ti i tu mladší za službu, kterou si u mne odsloužíš v dalších sedmi letech.“ 28 Jákob tak učinil a zůstal u ní po celý týden. Pak mu Lában dal za ženu svou dceru Ráchel. 29 Za služebnici dal své dceři Ráchel otrokyni Bilhu. 30 I vešel Jákob také k Ráchel a miloval ji více než Leu, a sloužil u něho ještě dalších sedm let. 31 Když Hospodin viděl, že Lea není milována, otevřel její lůno. Ráchel však zůstala neplodná. 32 Lea otěhotněla, porodila syna a pojmenovala ho Rúben (to je Hleďte-syn); řekla totiž: „Hospodin viděl mé pokoření; nyní mě už bude můj muž milovat.“ 33 Otěhotněla znovu, porodila syna a řekla: „Hospodin uslyšel, že nejsem milována, a dal mi také tohoto.“ Pojmenovala ho tedy Šimeón (to je Vyslyš-[Bůh]). 34 A znovu otěhotněla, porodila syna a řekla: „Tentokrát se už můj muž přidruží ke mně, poněvadž jsem mu porodila tři syny.“ Proto se jmenuje Lévi (to je Přidružitel). 35 A znovu otěhotněla, porodila syna a řekla: „Zase mohu vzdávat chválu Hospodinu.“ Proto ho pojmenovala Juda (to je Ten, kdo vzdává chválu). A přestala rodit.

Jákobovo ženění

1 Jákob tedy směle vykročil na cestu a přišel do země východních národů. 2 Když se rozhlédl, spatřil v poli studnu. Poblíž ležela tři stáda ovcí, neboť ta studna sloužila k napájení stád. V jejím ústí však ležel veliký kámen. 3 Pastýři ten kámen z ústí studny odvalovali, teprve když se tam shromáždila všechna stáda, a tehdy napájeli dobytek. Potom kámen vraceli zpět na jeho místo v ústí studny. 4 Jákob se jich zeptal: „Odkud jste, bratři?“ „Z Cháranu,“ odpověděli. 5 „A znáte Lábana, syna Náchorova?“ zeptal se jich. „Známe,“ odpověděli. 6 Zeptal se jich: „Daří se mu dobře?“ „Ano,“ odpověděli. „Podívej, jeho dcera Ráchel právě přichází s ovcemi.“ 7 Na to jim řekl: „Do večera je ještě daleko; teď přece není čas shánět dobytek. Napojte ovce a jděte ještě pást.“ 8 „To nejde,“ odpověděli. „Budeme moci napojit ovce, teprve až se shromáždí všechna stáda a odvalí se kámen z ústí studny.“ 9 A zatímco s nimi mluvil, přišla Ráchel se stádem svého otce. Byla totiž pastýřka. 10 Když Jákob spatřil Ráchel, dceru svého strýce Lábana, a jeho stádo, přistoupil, odvalil kámen z otvoru studny a dal stádu svého strýce Lábana napít. 11 Nato Ráchel políbil a hlasitě se rozplakal. 12 A když jí řekl, že je příbuzný jejího otce, že je Rebečin syn, běžela to povědět svému otci. 13 Jakmile Lában uslyšel zprávu o svém synovci Jákobovi, rozběhl se mu naproti. Objal ho, políbil a přivedl ho do svého domu. Když pak Jákob Lábanovi vyprávěl o všem, co se stalo, 14 Lában mu řekl: „Opravdu jsi má krev a tělo!“ Když pak u něj Jákob zůstal už celý měsíc, 15 Lában mu řekl: „I když jsi můj příbuzný, nebudeš přece u mě sloužit zadarmo. Řekni mi, co chceš za odměnu.“ 16 (Onen Lában měl dvě dcery: starší se jmenovala Léa a mladší Ráchel. 17 Léa měla měkké oči, ale Ráchel byla nápadně krásná, překrásná dívka.) 18 Jákob si zamiloval Ráchel, a tak řekl: „Budu ti sloužit sedm let za tvou mladší dceru Ráchel.“ 19 Lában odpověděl: „Dám ti ji raději než komukoli jinému. Zůstaň u mě.“ 20 A tak Jákob sloužil za Ráchel sedm let a zdálo se mu to jako pouhá chvíle, protože ji miloval. 21 Potom Jákob Lábanovi řekl: „Můj čas se naplnil. Dej mi mou ženu, chci být s ní.“ 22 Lában tedy shromáždil všechny místní muže a vystrojil hostinu. 23 Večer pak vzal svou dceru Léu, přivedl ji k Jákobovi a ten s ní spal. 24 (A Lában tenkrát své dceři Lée daroval svou otrokyni Zilpu jako děvečku.) 25 Přišlo ráno a hle – byla to Léa! „Cos mi to udělal?“ ptal se Jákob Lábana. „Copak jsem ti nesloužil za Ráchel? Proč jsi mě obelstil?“ 26 „V našem kraji není zvykem vdávat mladší dříve než prvorozenou,“ odpověděl mu Lában. 27 „Až s ní strávíš svatební týden, dáme ti i tu druhou – za to, že mi budeš sloužit dalších sedm let.“ 28 Jákob tedy souhlasil. Strávil svatební týden s Leou a Lában mu pak dal za ženu svoji dceru Ráchel. 29 (Také jí Lában daroval děvečku – svou otrokyni Bilhu.) 30 Jákob tedy spal i s Ráchel. Miloval ji ovšem více než Léu. Sloužil pak u Lábana ještě dalších sedm let.

Jákobovy děti

31 Když Hospodin viděl, že Léa je nemilovaná, otevřel její lůno. Ráchel však byla neplodná. 32 Léa počala a porodila syna. Dala mu jméno Ruben (Hleďte, syn!), neboť řekla: „Hospodin pohlédl na mé trápení.^[1] Teď už mě můj manžel bude milovat.“ 33 Potom počala znovu, a když porodila syna, řekla: „Hospodin slyšel, že jsem nemilovaná, a tak mi dal i tohoto.“ Dala mu tedy jméno Šimeon, Vyslyšení. 34 Potom počala znovu, a když porodila syna, řekla: „Tentokrát se ke mně můj muž připojí – vždyť jsem mu porodila tři syny!“ A proto dostal jméno Levi, Spojení. 35 Potom počala znovu, a když porodila syna, řekla: „Teď budu chválit Hospodina!“ Proto mu dala jméno Juda, Chvála. Tehdy přestala rodit.

1 Jakob machte sich auf und zog ins Land der Söhne des Ostens. 2 Als er aufsah, siehe, da war ein Brunnen auf freiem Feld. Und siehe, da lagerten drei Herden von Schafen und Ziegen; denn aus dem Brunnen tränkte man die Herden. Ein großer Stein lag über der Brunnenöffnung. 3 Wenn sich dort alle Herden eingefunden hatten, wälzte man den Stein von der Brunnenöffnung und tränkte das Vieh. Dann schob man den Stein wieder zurück an seinen Platz über der Brunnenöffnung. 4 Jakob fragte die Leute dort: Meine Brüder, woher seid ihr? Sie sagten: Wir sind aus Haran. 5 Da sagte er zu ihnen: Kennt ihr Laban, den Sohn Nahors? Ja, wir kennen ihn, antworteten sie. 6 Er fragte sie: Geht es ihm gut? Sie entgegneten: Ja, es geht ihm gut. Aber da kommt gerade seine Tochter Rahel mit den Schafen und Ziegen. 7 Da sagte er: Seht, es ist noch mitten am Tag und nicht die Zeit, das Vieh zusammenzutreiben. Tränkt doch die Schafe und Ziegen, dann geht und weidet weiter! 8 Da sagten sie: Das können wir nicht, bevor nicht alle Herden sich eingefunden haben. Erst dann wird man den Stein von der Brunnenöffnung wegwälzen und die Schafe und Ziegen tränken. 9 Während er sich noch mit ihnen unterhielt, war Rahel mit den Schafen und Ziegen, die ihrem Vater gehörten, eingetroffen; denn sie war Hirtin. 10 Als Jakob Rahel, die Tochter Labans, des Bruders seiner Mutter, und die Schafe und Ziegen Labans, des Bruders seiner Mutter, sah, trat er hinzu, wälzte den Stein von der Brunnenöffnung und tränkte die Schafe und Ziegen Labans, des Bruders seiner Mutter. 11 Dann küsste Jakob Rahel, erhob seine Stimme und weinte. 12 Jakob eröffnete Rahel, dass er ein Bruder ihres Vaters und der Sohn Rebekkas sei. Da lief sie weg und erzählte es ihrem Vater. 13 Als Laban die Nachricht von Jakob, dem Sohn seiner Schwester, hörte, lief er ihm entgegen; er umarmte und küsste ihn und führte ihn in sein Haus. Jakob erzählte Laban die ganze Geschichte. 14 Da erwiderte ihm Laban: Du bist wirklich mein Bein und mein Fleisch. Als Jakob etwa einen Monat bei ihm geblieben war, 15 sagte Laban zu Jakob: Bist du nicht mein Bruder? Sollst du mir umsonst dienen? Sag mir, welchen Lohn du haben willst! 16 Laban hatte zwei Töchter; die ältere hieß Lea, die jüngere Rahel. 17 Die Augen Leas waren matt, Rahel aber war von schöner Gestalt und von schönem Aussehen. 18 Jakob hatte Rahel lieb und so sagte er: Ich will dir um die jüngere Tochter Rahel sieben Jahre dienen. 19 Laban entgegnete: Es ist besser, ich gebe sie dir als einem anderen. Bleib bei mir! 20 Jakob diente also um Rahel sieben Jahre. Weil er sie liebte, kamen sie ihm wie wenige Tage vor. (Oz 12,13) 21 Dann aber sagte Jakob zu Laban: Gib mir jetzt meine Frau; denn meine Zeit ist um und ich will nun zu ihr gehen. 22 Da ließ Laban alle Männer des Ortes zusammenkommen und bereitete ein Festmahl. 23 Am Abend nahm er aber seine Tochter Lea, führte sie zu ihm und Jakob kam zu ihr. 24 Laban gab seine Magd Silpa seiner Tochter Lea zur Magd. 25 Am Morgen aber, siehe, da war es Lea. Jakob sagte zu Laban: Was hast du mir angetan? Habe ich dir denn nicht um Rahel gedient? Warum hast du mich betrogen? 26 Laban erwiderte: Es ist hierzulande nicht üblich, die Jüngere vor der Älteren zur Ehe zu geben. 27 Vollende diese Brautwoche, dann wollen wir dir auch die andere geben für die Arbeit, die du bei mir noch weitere sieben Jahre verrichten wirst. 28 Jakob machte es so. Er vollendete die Brautwoche, dann gab ihm Laban seine Tochter Rahel zur Frau. 29 Laban gab seine Magd Bilha seiner Tochter Rahel zur Magd. 30 Jakob kam auch zu Rahel und er liebte Rahel mehr als Lea. Er blieb noch weitere sieben Jahre bei Laban.

Die Geburt der Kinder

31 Als der HERR sah, dass Lea zurückgesetzt wurde, öffnete er ihren Mutterschoß, Rahel aber blieb unfruchtbar. 32 Lea wurde schwanger und gebar einen Sohn. Sie gab ihm den Namen Ruben - Seht, ein Sohn -; denn sie sagte: Ja, der HERR hat mein Elend gesehen. Jetzt wird mein Mann mich gewiss lieben. 33 Sie wurde abermals schwanger und gebar einen Sohn. Da sagte sie: Der HERR hat sicher gehört, dass ich zurückgesetzt bin, und hat mir auch diesen geschenkt. Sie gab ihm den Namen Simeon - Hörer -. 34 Sie wurde noch einmal schwanger und gebar einen Sohn. Da sagte sie: Jetzt endlich wird sich mein Mann mir anschließen, denn ich habe ihm drei Söhne geboren. Darum gab sie ihm den Namen Levi - Anhänglicher -.^[1] 35 Abermals wurde sie schwanger und gebar einen Sohn. Da sagte sie: Diesmal will ich dem HERRN danken. Darum nannte sie seinen Namen Juda - Dank -. Dann bekam sie keine Kinder mehr.

Jacob Marries Leah and Rachel

1 Then Jacob went on his journey and came to the land of the people of the east. (Nu 23,7; Sd 6,3) 2 As he looked, he saw a well in the field, and behold, three flocks of sheep lying beside it, for out of that well the flocks were watered. The stone on the well’s mouth was large, 3 and when all the flocks were gathered there, the shepherds would roll the stone from the mouth of the well and water the sheep, and put the stone back in its place over the mouth of the well. 4 Jacob said to them, “My brothers, where do you come from?” They said, “We are from Haran.” (Gn 27,43) 5 He said to them, “Do you know Laban the son of Nahor?” They said, “We know him.” 6 He said to them, “Is it well with him?” They said, “It is well; and see, Rachel his daughter is coming with the sheep!” 7 He said, “Behold, it is still high day; it is not time for the livestock to be gathered together. Water the sheep and go, pasture them.” 8 But they said, “We cannot until all the flocks are gathered together and the stone is rolled from the mouth of the well; then we water the sheep.” 9 While he was still speaking with them, Rachel came with her father’s sheep, for she was a shepherdess. (Ex 2,16) 10 Now as soon as Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother’s brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother’s brother, Jacob came near and rolled the stone from the well’s mouth and watered the flock of Laban his mother’s brother. 11 Then Jacob kissed Rachel and wept aloud. 12 And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father’s kinsman, and that he was Rebekah’s son, and she ran and told her father. 13 As soon as Laban heard the news about Jacob, his sister’s son, he ran to meet him and embraced him and kissed him and brought him to his house. Jacob told Laban all these things, (Gn 29,12) 14 and Laban said to him, “Surely you are my bone and my flesh!” And he stayed with him a month. (Gn 2,23; Gn 37,27; Sd 9,2; 2S 5,1; 2S 19,12; 1Pa 11,1)

15 Then Laban said to Jacob, “Because you are my kinsman, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, what shall your wages be?” 16 Now Laban had two daughters. The name of the older was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel. 17 Leah’s eyes were weak,^[1] but Rachel was beautiful in form and appearance. 18 Jacob loved Rachel. And he said, “I will serve you seven years for your younger daughter Rachel.” (Gn 30,26; Gn 31,41; Oz 12,12) 19 Laban said, “It is better that I give her to you than that I should give her to any other man; stay with me.” 20 So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed to him but a few days because of the love he had for her. (Gn 29,18) 21 Then Jacob said to Laban, “Give me my wife that I may go in to her, for my time is completed.” 22 So Laban gathered together all the people of the place and made a feast. (Sd 14,10; J 2,1) 23 But in the evening he took his daughter Leah and brought her to Jacob, and he went in to her. 24 (Laban gave^[2] his female servant Zilpah to his daughter Leah to be her servant.) (Gn 30,9) 25 And in the morning, behold, it was Leah! And Jacob said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? Did I not serve with you for Rachel? Why then have you deceived me?” 26 Laban said, “It is not so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn. 27 Complete the week of this one, and we will give you the other also in return for serving me another seven years.” (Sd 14,12) 28 Jacob did so, and completed her week. Then Laban gave him his daughter Rachel to be his wife. 29 (Laban gave his female servant Bilhah to his daughter Rachel to be her servant.) (Gn 30,3) 30 So Jacob went in to Rachel also, and he loved Rachel more than Leah, and served Laban for another seven years. (Gn 29,20; Gn 31,41)

Jacob’s Children

31 When the Lord saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren. 1 Then Jacob went on his journey, and came into the land of the people of the east. 2 And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks: and a great stone was upon the well' mouth. 3 And thither were all the flocks gathered: and they rolled the stone from the well' mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone again upon the well' mouth in his place. 4 And Jacob said unto them, My brethren, whence be ye? And they said, Of Haran are we. 5 And he said unto them, Know ye Laban the son of Nahor? And they said, We know him . 6 And he said unto them, Is he well?
