1 В началото на царуването на юдовия цар Йоаким, сина на Йосия, беше това слово от ГОСПОДА, което каза: 2 Така казва ГОСПОД: Застани в двора на ГОСПОДНИЯ дом и говори на всичките юдови градове, които идват да се покланят в ГОСПОДНИЯ дом, всичките думи, които ти заповядах да им говориш; не задържай нито дума! 3 Може би ще послушат и ще се върнат всеки от злия си път, и Аз ще се разкая за злото, което мисля да им направя заради злите им дела^[1]. 4 И им кажи: Така казва ГОСПОД: Ако не Ме послушате да ходите в закона Ми, който поставих пред вас, 5 да слушате думите на слугите Ми, пророците, които Аз изпращам до вас, като ставам рано и ги изпращам – но вие не послушахте! – 6 тогава ще направя този дом като Сило и ще направя този град за проклятие на всичките народи на земята. 7 И свещениците и пророците, и целия народ чуха Еремия, когато говореше тези думи в ГОСПОДНИЯ дом. 8 И когато Еремия свърши да говори всичко, което ГОСПОД беше заповядал да говори на целия народ, тогава свещениците и пророците, и целият народ го хванаха и казаха: Непременно ще умреш! 9 Защо пророкува ти в Името на ГОСПОДА и каза: Като Сило ще стане този дом и този град ще бъде запустен, да няма жител? И целият народ се събра около Еремия в ГОСПОДНИЯ дом. 10 И когато юдовите първенци чуха тези думи, те се изкачиха от царския дом в ГОСПОДНИЯ дом и седнаха във входа на новата порта на дома на ГОСПОДА. 11 И свещениците и пророците говориха на първенците и на целия народ и казаха: Този човек е за смъртна присъда, защото пророкува против този град, както чухте с ушите си! 12 Тогава Еремия говори на всичките първенци и на целия народ и каза: ГОСПОД ме изпрати да пророкувам против този дом и против този град всичките думи, които чухте. 13 Затова сега оправете пътищата си и делата си и послушайте гласа на ГОСПОДА, своя Бог; и ГОСПОД ще се разкае за злото, което е говорил против вас. 14 А аз, ето, аз съм в ръката ви; направете ми каквото ви се вижда добро и право. 15 Но знайте със сигурност, че ако ме умъртвите, ще докарате невинна кръв върху себе си, върху този град и върху жителите му; защото наистина ГОСПОД ме изпрати при вас да говоря в ушите ви всички тези думи. 16 Тогава първенците и целият народ казаха на свещениците и на пророците: Този човек не е за смъртна присъда, защото ни говори в Името на ГОСПОДА, нашия Бог. 17 И някои от старейшините на земята станаха и говориха на цялото събрание на народа и казаха: 18 Михей моресетецът пророкуваше в дните на юдовия цар Езекия, и говори на целия юдов народ и каза: Така казва ГОСПОД на Войнствата: Сион ще се изоре като нива, Ерусалим ще стане грамади от развалини и хълмът на дома – гористи възвишения. 19 Нима юдовият цар Езекия и целият Юда го умъртвиха? Не се ли убоя той от ГОСПОДА и не умолява ли за милостта на ГОСПОДА, така че ГОСПОД се разкая за злото, което беше говорил против тях^[2]? А ние да направим ли такова голямо зло на душите си? 20 А имаше и друг човек, който пророкуваше в Името на ГОСПОДА, Урия, син на Семая, от Кириат-Иарим. И пророкува против този град и против тази земя според всичките думи на Еремия. 21 И когато цар Йоаким и всичките му силни мъже, и всичките първенци чуха думите му, царят поиска да го умъртви. Jeremiah’s enemies try to have him killed

1 A message from the LORD came to Jeremiah. It was shortly after Jehoiakim became king of Judah. He was the son of Josiah. 2 The LORD said to Jeremiah, ‘Stand in the courtyard of my house. Speak to the people of the towns in Judah. Speak to all those who come to worship in my house. Tell them everything I command you. Do not leave out a single word. 3 Perhaps they will listen. Maybe they will turn from their evil ways. Then I will not do what I said I would. I will not bring trouble on them. I had planned to punish them because of the evil things they had done. 4 Tell them, “The LORD says, ‘Listen to me. Obey my law that I gave you. 5 And listen to the words my servants the prophets are speaking. I have sent them to you again and again. But you have not listened to them. 6 So I will make this house like Shiloh. All the nations on earth will use the name of this city in a curse.’ ” ’ 7 Jeremiah spoke these words in the LORD’s house. The priests, the prophets and all the people heard him. 8 Jeremiah finished telling all the people everything the LORD had commanded him to say. But as soon as he did, the priests, the prophets and all the people grabbed him. They said, ‘You must die! 9 Why do you prophesy these things in the LORD’s name? Why do you say that this house will become like Shiloh? Why do you say that this city will be empty and deserted?’ And all the people crowded around Jeremiah in the LORD’s house. 10 The officials of Judah heard what had happened. So they went up from the royal palace to the LORD’s house. There they took their places at the entrance of the New Gate. 11 Then the priests and prophets spoke to the officials and all the people. They said, ‘This man should be sentenced to death. He has prophesied against this city. You have heard it with your own ears!’ 12 Then Jeremiah spoke to all the officials and people. He said, ‘The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and this city. He told me to say everything you have heard. 13 So change the way you live and act. Obey the LORD your God. Then he won’t do what he said he would. He won’t bring on you the trouble he said he would bring. 14 As for me, I’m in your hands. Do to me what you think is good and right. 15 But you can be sure of one thing. If you put me to death, you will be held responsible for spilling my blood. And I haven’t even done anything wrong. You will bring guilt on yourselves and this city and those who live in it. The LORD has sent me to you. He wanted me to say all these things so you could hear them. And that’s the truth.’ 16 Then the officials and all the people spoke to the priests and prophets. They said, ‘This man shouldn’t be sentenced to death! He has spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God.’ 17 Some of the elders of the land stepped forward. They spoke to the whole community gathered there. They said, 18 ‘Micah from Moresheth prophesied. It was during the time Hezekiah was king over Judah. Micah spoke to all the people of Judah. He told them, “The LORD who rules over all says, ‘ “ ‘Zion will be ploughed up like a field. Jerusalem will be turned into a pile of rubble. The temple hill will be covered with bushes and weeds.’ ” (Мих 3:12) 19 Did King Hezekiah or anyone else in Judah put Micah to death? Hezekiah had respect for the LORD and tried to please him. And the LORD didn’t judge Jerusalem as he said he would. He didn’t bring on it the trouble he said he would bring. But we are about to bring horrible trouble on ourselves!’ 20 Uriah was another man who prophesied in the name of the LORD. He was from Kiriath Jearim. He was the son of Shemaiah. Uriah prophesied against this city and this land. He said the same things Jeremiah did. 21 King Jehoiakim and all his officers and officials heard Uriah’s words. So the king decided to put him to death. But Uriah heard about it. He was afraid. And he ran away to Egypt. 22 So King Jehoiakim sent Elnathan to Egypt. He also sent some other men along with him. Elnathan was the son of Akbor. 23 Those men brought Uriah out of Egypt. They took him to King Jehoiakim. Then the king had Uriah struck down with a sword. He had Uriah’s body thrown into one of the graves of the ordinary people. 24 In spite of that, Ahikam stood up for Jeremiah. Ahikam was the son of Shaphan. Because of Ahikam, Jeremiah wasn’t handed over to the people to be put to death.
