1 Братя и бащи, слушайте сега моята защита пред вас. 2 И като чуха, че им говори на еврейски, те пазеха още по-голяма тишина. Тогава той каза: 3 Аз съм юдеин, роден в Тарс Киликийски, а възпитан в този град при краката на Гамалиил, изучен строго в предадения от бащите ни закон. И бях ревностен за Бога, както сте и всички вие днес; 4 и гонех до смърт последователите на това учение, като връзвах и предавах на затвор и мъже, и жени; 5 както свидетелства за мен и първосвещеникът, и цялото старейшинство, от които бях взел и писма до братята и отивах в Дамаск, за да докарам вързани в Ерусалим и онези, които бяха там, за да ги накажат. 6 И когато пътувах и приближих Дамаск около пладне, внезапно от небето блесна голяма светлина около мен. 7 И паднах на земята и чух глас, който ми каза: Савле, Савле, защо Ме гониш? 8 А аз отговорих: Кой си Ти, Господи? И аз веднага прогледах и погледнах към него. 14 А той каза: Бог на бащите ни те е предназначил да познаеш Неговата воля и да видиш Праведника, и да чуеш гласа от Неговите уста, 15 защото ще бъдеш Негов свидетел пред всичките хора за това, което си видял и чул. 16 И сега защо се бавиш? Стани, кръсти се и се умий от греховете си, като призовеш Името на Господа. 17 И като се върнах в Ерусалим, когато се молех в храма, изпаднах в състояние на видение 18 и Го видях да ми казва: Побързай да излезеш скоро от Ерусалим, защото няма да приемат твоето свидетелство за Мен. 19 И аз казах: Господи, те знаят, че аз затварях и биех по синагогите онези, които вярваха в Теб, 20 и когато се проливаше кръвта на Твоя свидетел Стефан, и аз бях там и одобрявах неговото убийство, като пазех дрехите на тези, които го убиваха. 21 Но Той ми каза: Иди, защото ще те изпратя далеч между езичниците. 22 До тази дума го слушаха, а тогава извикаха със силен глас: Да се махне такъв от земята, защото не бива да живее! 23 И понеже те викаха, мятаха дрехите си и хвърляха прах във въздуха, 24 хилядникът заповяда да го закарат в крепостта и поръча да го разпитат с бичуване, за да узнае по коя причина викат така против него. 25 И когато го бяха разтегнали с ремъци, Павел каза на стотника, който стоеше там: Позволено ли ви е да бичувате един римлянин, и то неосъден? 26 Като чу това, стотникът отиде да извести на хилядника, като каза: Какво смяташ да правиш? Защото този човек е римлянин. 27 Тогава хилядникът дойде и му каза: Кажи ми, ти римлянин ли си? А той каза: Да. 28 Хилядникът отговори: С много пари съм получил това гражданство. А Павел каза: А аз съм се родил в него. 29 Тогава тези, които щяха да го разпитват, веднага се оттеглиха от него. И хилядникът също се уплаши, като разбра че е римлянин, и понеже го беше вързал. 30 На следващия ден, като искаше да разбере със сигурност защо го обвиняваха юдеите, той го развърза и заповяда да се съберат главните свещеници и целият техен Синедрион, и доведе Павел долу, и го постави пред тях.

1 “Brothers and fathers, hear the defense that I now make before you.” (Д А 7:2) 2 And when they heard that he was addressing them in the Hebrew language,[1] they became even more quiet. And he said: (Д А 21:40) 3 “I am a Jew, born in Tarsus in Cilicia, but brought up in this city, educated at the feet of Gamaliel[2] according to the strict manner of the law of our fathers, being zealous for God as all of you are this day. From them I received letters to the brothers, and I journeyed toward Damascus to take those also who were there and bring them in bonds to Jerusalem to be punished. (Дан 10:7; Д А 9:7) 10 And I said, ‘What shall I do, Lord?’ And the Lord said to me, ‘Rise, and go into Damascus, and there you will be told all that is appointed for you to do.’ (Д А 16:30) 11 And since I could not see because of the brightness of that light, I was led by the hand by those who were with me, and came into Damascus. 12 “And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, well spoken of by all the Jews who lived there, (Д А 9:10; Д А 10:22; Д А 24:14) 13 came to me, and standing by me said to me, ‘Brother Saul, receive your sight.’ And at that very hour I received my sight and saw him. (Мт 10:17; Д А 22:4; Д А 26:11) 20 And when the blood of Stephen your witness was being shed, I myself was standing by and approving and watching over the garments of those who killed him.’ (Д А 7:58; Д А 8:1; Д А 26:10; Рим 1:32; Отк 2:13) 21 And he said to me, ‘Go, for I will send you far away to the Gentiles.’” (Д А 2:39; Д А 9:15) 22 Up to this word they listened to him. Then they raised their voices and said, “Away with such a fellow from the earth! For he should not be allowed to live.” (Д А 21:36; Д А 25:24) 23 And as they were shouting and throwing off their cloaks and flinging dust into the air, 24 the tribune ordered him to be brought into the barracks, saying that he should be examined by flogging, to find out why they were shouting against him like this. (Д А 21:34; Д А 22:29; Д А 23:10) 25 But when they had stretched him out for the whips,[4] Paul said to the centurion who was standing by, “Is it lawful for you to flog a man who is a Roman citizen and uncondemned?” (Д А 16:37) 26 When the centurion heard this, he went to the tribune and said to him, “What are you about to do? For this man is a Roman citizen.” 27 So the tribune came and said to him, “Tell me, are you a Roman citizen?” And he said, “Yes.” 28 The tribune answered, “I bought this citizenship for a large sum.” Paul said, “But I am a citizen by birth.” 29 So those who were about to examine him withdrew from him immediately, and the tribune also was afraid, for he realized that Paul was a Roman citizen and that he had bound him. (Д А 16:38; Д А 21:33; Д А 22:24; Д А 23:27) 30 But on the next day, desiring to know the real reason why he was being accused by the Jews, he unbound him and commanded the chief priests and all the council to meet, and he brought Paul down and set him before them.
