Notre secours vient de l’Eternel

1 Cantique pour la route vers la demeure de l’Eternel. De David. Si l’Eternel ╵n’avait pas été avec nous – Oui, qu’Israël le dise! – (Ps 120:1) 

2 si l’Eternel ╵n’avait pas été avec nous lorsque des hommes nous ont attaqués, 

3 alors ils nous auraient ╵engloutis tout vivants dans l’ardeur de leur rage ╵déchaînée contre nous. 

4 Le flot nous aurait entraînés et le torrent ╵nous aurait submergés. 

5 Alors des eaux tumultueuses auraient passé sur nous. 

6 Béni soit l’Eternel, lui qui n’a pas permis que nous soyons ╵une proie pour leurs dents. 

7 Nous avons pu nous échapper ╵comme l’oiseau du filet des chasseurs: le filet s’est rompu ╵et nous nous sommes échappés. 

8 Notre secours ╵nous vient de l’Eternel qui a fait le ciel et la terre.

Our Help Is in the Name of the Lord

A Song of Ascents. Of David.

1 If it had not been the LORD who was on our side— let Israel now say— (Ps 94:17; Ps 129:1) 

2 if it had not been the LORD who was on our side when people rose up against us, 

3 then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their anger was kindled against us; (Ps 56:1) 

4 then the flood would have swept us away, the torrent would have gone over us; (Jb 22:11; Ps 32:6; Ps 69:1; Ps 69:2; Is 8:8) 

5 then over us would have gone the raging waters. 

6 Blessed be the LORD, who has not given us as prey to their teeth! 

7 We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped! (Ps 91:3) 

8 Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth. (Ps 121:2)
