1Přistupte, národy, ať to slyšíte, pozorně to, lidé, sledujte! Ať poslouchá země i všechno v ní, svět i vše, co na něm vyraší:2Hospodin se hněvá na všechny národy, zlobí se na všechny jejich zástupy; jako proklaté je vyhladí, vydá je krveprolití.3Jejich zabití budou pohozeni, zapáchat budou jejich mrtvoly, hory se jejich krví rozmočí.4Nebeský zástup se celý rozplyne, nebe se jako svitek zavine, všechen jeho zástup popadá, jako když listí révy opadá jako z fíkovníku padavka.5Můj meč na nebi je zbrocený, na Edom náhle udeří – na lid, který jsem odsoudil k naprostému zničení.6Hospodinův meč se koupe v krvi, od tuku celý lepkavý, od krve kozlí a jehněčí, od tuku ledvin beraních. Hospodin chystá v Bosře obětní hody, v Edomu hrozné krveprolití.7Padnou s nimi i buvoli, býčci spolu se statnými tury. Jejich zem celá nasákne krví, jejich prach bude tukem lepkavý.8Ano, Hospodin chystá den pomsty, léto zúčtování ve sporu o Sion!9Edomské potoky se v dehet obrátí a tamní půda v síru; celou tu zemi zachvátí plameny hořícího dehtu!10Ve dne ani v noci Edom neuhasne, jeho dým bude stoupat navždycky; na věky věků z něj zbudou trosky, nikdo už tudy nikdy neprojde.11Tu zemi obsadí pelikán a výr, sýček a krkavec se v ní uhnízdí; přeměřena bude šňůrou pustoty a olovnicí prázdnoty.12Edomští urození už nebudou mít nic, co by šlo nazvat královstvím; všichni jejich velmoži vymizí.13Jejich paláce zarostou hložím, jejich pevnosti trním a bodláčím; obrátí se v doupě šakalí a v útočiště pro pštrosy.14Setkají se tam příšery a hyeny, jeden na druhého běsi zavřeští; noční stvůra se tam usadí a najde odpočinutí.15Uhnízdí se tam sova, aby vejce nakladla, vysedí je a ve svém stínu odchová; také supi se tam shromáždí, družka k druhovi.16Hledejte v knize Hospodinově a čtěte! Ani jediný z nich nechybí, žádný z nich není bez družky. Jeho ústa dala příkazy a jeho Duch je shromáždí.17On sám jim losem určí podíly, svou rukou jim tu zemi rozměří, aby ji navždy ovládli, aby v ní žili navěky.

For the Lord has a sacrifice in Bozrah, a great slaughter in the land of Edom. (Iz 63,1)7Wild oxen shall fall with them, and young steers with the mighty bulls. Their land shall drink its fill of blood, and their soil shall be gorged with fat. (Nu 23,22; Ž 22,12; Iz 47,1)8For the Lord has a day of vengeance, a year of recompense for the cause of Zion. (Ž 137,7; Iz 61,2; Iz 63,4)9And the streams of Edom[2] shall be turned into pitch, and her soil into sulfur; her land shall become burning pitch. (Dt 29,23)10Night and day it shall not be quenched; its smoke shall go up forever. From generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it forever and ever. (Iz 66,24; Mal 1,4; Zj 14,11; Zj 18,18; Zj 19,3)11But the hawk and the porcupine[3] shall possess it, the owl and the raven shall dwell in it. He shall stretch the line of confusion[4] over it, and the plumb line of emptiness. (2Kr 21,13; Iz 14,23; Iz 24,10; Pl 2,8; Am 7,7; Sf 2,14; Zj 18,2)12Its nobles—there is no one there to call it a kingdom, and all its princes shall be nothing.13Thorns shall grow over its strongholds, nettles and thistles in its fortresses. It shall be the haunt of jackals, an abode for ostriches.[5] (Ž 44,19; Iz 13,22; Iz 32,13; Mal 1,3)14And wild animals shall meet with hyenas; the wild goat shall cry to his fellow; indeed, there the night bird[6] settles and finds for herself a resting place. (Iz 13,21)15There the owl nests and lays and hatches and gathers her young in her shadow; indeed, there the hawks are gathered, each one with her mate. (Dt 14,13)16Seek and read from the book of the Lord: Not one of these shall be missing; none shall be without her mate. For the mouth of the Lord has commanded, and his Spirit has gathered them.17He has cast the lot for them; his hand has portioned it out to them with the line; they shall possess it forever; from generation to generation they shall dwell in it.
