1Po nějaké době měl Abram vidění, ve kterém dostal Hospodinovo slovo: „Neboj se, Abrame, já jsem tvůj štít, tvá nesmírná odměna.“2Abram odpověděl: „Hospodine, Pane můj, co mi chceš dát? Chodím životem bezdětný a svůj dům zanechám Eliezerovi z Damašku.3Pohleď, nedal jsi mi potomka,“ pokračoval Abram, „a tak mým dědicem bude můj čeledín!“4Vtom dostal Hospodinovo slovo: „Ten tvým dědicem nebude; tvůj dědic vyjde z tvých vlastních beder!“5Vyvedl jej ven a řekl: „Pohlédni k nebi a spočítej hvězdy, budeš-li je moci spočítat.“ Pak dodal: „Tolik bude tvého semene.“6Abram tehdy uvěřil Hospodinu a ten mu to počítal za spravedlnost.7Řekl mu také: „Já jsem Hospodin, jenž tě vyvedl z chaldejského Uru, abych ti dal za dědictví tuto zem.“8Abram se zeptal: „Hospodine, Pane můj, podle čeho poznám, že ji zdědím?“9On mu odpověděl: „Přines mi tříletou jalovici, tříletou kozu, tříletého berana, také hrdličku a holoubě.“10Abram mu všechna ta zvířata přinesl, rozťal je napůl a položil jednu část proti druhé; ptáky však neroztínal.11K mrtvým tělům se snášeli dravci, ale Abram je odháněl.12Když pak slunce začalo zapadat, přišel na Abrama hluboký spánek. Náhle jej sevřela hluboká, děsivá tma.13Tehdy Hospodin Abramovi řekl: „Buď si jist, že tví potomci budou přistěhovalci v zemi, jež nebude jejich; tam budou zotročeni a utiskováni po čtyři sta let.14Já však také budu soudit národ, jemuž budou otročit, a tak odtud potom vyjdou s velikým jměním.15Ty sám se odebereš ke svým otcům v pokoji a budeš pohřben ve šťastném stáří.16Sem se ale vrátí až čtvrté pokolení, neboť nepravost Emorejců ještě není dovršena.“17Když slunce zapadlo a nastala tma, objevila se kouřící pec a mezi těmi díly zvířat prošla ohnivá pochodeň.18V ten den Hospodin vstoupil s Abramem do smlouvy. Řekl: „Tuto zem dávám tvému semeni; od Egyptské řeky až po tu velikou řeku, řeku Eufrat:19Kenijce, Kenizejce a Kadmonce,20Chetejce, Perizejce, Refajce,21Emorejce, Kanaánce, Girgašejce a Jebusejce.“
1After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.” (Gn 26,24; Ž 3,3; Ž 18,2; Ž 84,11; Ž 119,114; Da 10,12; L 1,13; L 1,30)2But Abram said, “O Lord God, what will you give me, for I continue[1] childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?”3And Abram said, “Behold, you have given me no offspring, and a member of my household will be my heir.” (Gn 14,14)4And behold, the word of the Lord came to him: “This man shall not be your heir; your very own son[2] shall be your heir.” (Gn 17,16)5And he brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” (Gn 22,17; Gn 26,4; Ex 32,13; Dt 1,10; Dt 10,22; 1Pa 27,23; Ž 147,4; Ř 4,18; Žd 11,12)6And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness. (Ž 106,31; Ř 4,3; Ř 4,9; Ř 4,22; Ga 3,6; Jk 2,23)7And he said to him, “I am the Lord who brought you out from Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to possess.” (Gn 11,31; Gn 12,1; Neh 9,7; Ž 105,42; Ž 105,44; Sk 7,2)8But he said, “O Lord God, how am I to know that I shall possess it?” (Sd 6,17; 2Kr 20,8; Ž 86,17; Iz 7,11; L 1,18)9He said to him, “Bring me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.”10And he brought him all these, cut them in half, and laid each half over against the other. But he did not cut the birds in half. (Lv 1,17; Jr 34,18)11And when birds of prey came down on the carcasses, Abram drove them away.12As the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram. And behold, dreadful and great darkness fell upon him. (Gn 2,21)13Then the Lord said to Abram, “Know for certain that your offspring will be sojourners in a land that is not theirs and will be servants there, and they will be afflicted for four hundred years. (Ex 1,11; Ex 3,7; Ex 12,40; Sk 7,6; Ga 3,17)14But I will bring judgment on the nation that they serve, and afterward they shall come out with great possessions. (Ex 6,6; Ex 12,36; Ž 105,37)15As for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried in a good old age. (Gn 25,8)16And they shall come back here in the fourth generation, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete.” (1Kr 21,26; Da 8,23; Am 2,9; Mt 23,32; 1Te 2,16)17When the sun had gone down and it was dark, behold, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces.18On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, “To your offspring I give[3] this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates, (Gn 12,7; Gn 13,15; Gn 24,7; Gn 26,4; Ex 23,31; Nu 34,2; Dt 1,7; Dt 34,4; Jz 1,4; Neh 9,8)19the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites,20the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim,21the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites and the Jebusites.”
