Matthew 28

English Standard Version

1 Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. (Mt 27:56; Mt 27:61; Mr 16:1; Lu 24:1; Joh 20:1)2 And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. (Joh 20:12)3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. (Da 7:9; Da 10:6; Mr 9:3; Joh 20:12; Ac 1:10)4 And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. (Re 1:17)5 But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.6 He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he[1] lay. (Mt 27:63)7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” (Mt 26:32; Mt 28:10; Mt 28:16)8 So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. (Ps 2:11)9 And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. (2Ki 4:27; Mt 28:17; Mr 16:9; Lu 24:52; Joh 20:14)10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.” (Ps 22:22; Joh 20:17; Joh 20:18; Ro 8:29; Heb 2:11; Heb 2:17)11 While they were going, behold, some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests all that had taken place. (Mt 27:65)12 And when they had assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a sufficient sum of money to the soldiers13 and said, “Tell people, ‘His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ (Mt 27:64)14 And if this comes to the governor’s ears, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” (Mt 27:2; Ac 12:20)15 So they took the money and did as they were directed. And this story has been spread among the Jews to this day. (Mt 27:8)16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. (Mt 28:7)17 And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. (Mt 28:9)18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. (Da 7:13; Mt 6:10; Mt 9:6; Mt 11:27; Lu 2:14; Joh 3:35; Joh 5:27; Joh 13:3; Joh 17:2; Ac 2:36; Ro 14:9; 1Co 15:27; Eph 1:10; Eph 1:20; Php 2:9; Col 2:10; Heb 1:2; Heb 2:8; 1Pe 3:22)19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[2] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (Mt 13:52; Mt 24:14; Mr 11:17; Mr 16:15; Lu 24:47; Ac 8:16; Ro 1:5; 2Co 13:14)20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Mt 1:23; Mt 13:39; Mt 18:20; Joh 12:26; Joh 14:3; Joh 14:15; Joh 17:24; Ac 1:2; Ac 18:10)
