13 But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ (Ezr 9:6; Ps 79:9; Eze 16:63; Da 9:19; Lu 18:11; Lu 23:48)

New International Version

13 ‘But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, “God, have mercy on me, a sinner.”

13 ‘But the tax collector stood further away than the Pharisee. He would not even look up to heaven. He brought his hand to his heart and prayed. He said, “God, have mercy on me. I am a sinner.”

13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
