5 And he brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” (Ge 22:17; Ge 26:4; Ex 32:13; De 1:10; De 10:22; 1Ch 27:23; Ps 147:4; Ro 4:18; Heb 11:12)

5 He took him outside and said, ‘Look up at the sky and count the stars – if indeed you can count them.’ Then he said to him, ‘So shall your offspring[1] be.’ 

New International Reader’s Version

5 The LORD took Abram outside and said, ‘Look up at the sky. Count the stars, if you can.’ Then he said to him, ‘That’s how many children will be born into your family.’ 

King James Version

5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
